I see something special in Jonah Hinton. The Bonnies got a real gem in #8. I think his minutes and role will increase as the season goes on. He was huge off the bench in the first half. Plays with great pace and his shot is money.

I was thinking about that game last night. It is wild that they made 9 more 3s and we still won relatively easily One of the keys to this win and previous BONA teams often failed to do was answering a Griffs 3 with just a bucket, not necessarily a 3. This prevents the opponent from going on runs. The BONNIES built up an early second half double digit lead and really did not allow runs by trying to answer a 3 with a 3, good job!

A few things… - bigcat, thanks for posting Christian’s post game interview, his comments were great, class act and very accurate! - Chance Moore blew me away yesterday, just wow! When he started game one I thought, ok I guess he’s the 5th starter without much expectation, in 2 games he has me really excited to see more! - Loved Hinton’s game, he is going to be great to watch off the bench. A little Vinny Johnson microwave action. Maybe Eric Mosley’ish. - Council is so FAST!!!! Love it when he grabs a board and goes! - Love seeing Duane Thompson gaining confidence and experience. Lookout! - Quiet game for Jones. Playing so well offensively with Lajae kind of out of the mix was impressive. I think he will be a top player for us, so this is encouraging. - we haven’t necessarily seen this yet, but I think Jaxon Edwards can be really good for this team. He appears to be a freak athlete that I assume is taking a little time to learn the system.
Lots of other encouraging signs yesterday and as others have written, if some of the prayer 3’s that Canisius threw up don’t go in this game ends with a much wider margin for the Bonnies. Nice road win!

I was thinking about that game last night. It is wild that they made 9 more 3s and we still won relatively easily The Bonnies were simply a more athletic and physical team. They dominated the game around the basket. This is how you explain following. — Bonnies more than doubled Canisius scoring in the paint (46-20). Shots close to the basket are easier to make than long jump shots. — Out rebounded Canisius 37-23, which leads to 14 more possessions. — Bonnies athleticism limited Canisius to any good looks inside the arc. 3 things are standing out about this team. — Chance is becoming a star. — A signature of this team is defense. — Most of all this team appears to have focus and drive.

I was thinking about that game last night. It is wild that they made 9 more 3s and we still won relatively easily Canisius hit more threes than Arizona in their opener and still lost by 29. Much like with the game yesterday, CU got hammered on the boards by Arizona. While some might be concerned by Canisius raining threes on us last night, they connected on nearly 40% of their shots from deep against a team that could win the title this year. I was impressed with Canisius staying relatively competitive against a great Arizona team Monday. Arizona just beat Old Dominon by 60 last night, so the Griffs 29-point loss doesn’t look too bad.

I sure hope that our D will be our signature as CHUCK states. After 2 games we have allowed 67 ppg. However opponents have converted on an impressive 39% TREYS while we have struggled making a poor 23.5%. Nice to see we have 9 blks while we had only 1 shot blocked.
Looks like playing a deep bench will be a rare signature experience for Coach Schmidt. We are accustomed to seeing our best players going 38+ mins. Looks like our best will not be sucking wind late in close games. CHANCE, MELVIN & DASONTE are all clocking about 30 mins!
CHANCE has been so impressive with his team best 22.5 ppg & 7.5 boards, 58% FGs, 30% TREYS, 80% FTs, 4 steals and 3 blks.
We have dominated PIP (72/40) and I expect NOEL to get more touches and shots (64% FGs) as we go forward. Glad to see him rebounding better (5.5 rebs with 23.5 mins PT).
Concerns were rightly raised with our poor offense agaisnt Alfred. They have been diminished as we have put up 78.5 ppg on 45% FGs
They have been fun to watch as we are getting a better feel for their game.

Chance has two years of eligibility, one at Bonas' and one wherever the money is.

I was thinking about that game last night. It is wild that they made 9 more 3s and we still won relatively easily Like Schmidt said after our last win, he wanted more offense going inside and that's what they gave him. When we have the height advantage inside like we did, that was the formula. Nice win especially for a team trying to gel.

They seem to be getting better game after game so far. I was disappointed that Bolanga didn't get more playing time. I thought, like our ESPN+ announcers said against CSUN, that the Frenchman really had a strong game and therefore I would have thought he would have gotten more time Saturday against the Griffs. I really think he is going to be a stud for us if he sticks around a while...

He also looks good on defense which has to make Schmidt happy to play him more....

Interesting title from OTH article “Engaged” Moore lifts Bona over Canisius. The word engaged is in parentheses. Does Chance need to be engaged to have these star performances? Following comment is from article. — According to Schmidt, Moore was just about at the top of his game Saturday. And while there are still some finer details Schmidt hopes to see cleaned up this season, Moore gave the Bonnies the edge. “When he's engaged he's a really good player, we just got to make sure that he's engaged all the time,” Schmidt said. I wonder if Chance wasn’t engaged when I saw him this preseason. At times he displayed special talent, but it was always short lived. It makes me think of Allen Iverson’s “it’s just practice.” Marcus Posley is my best example of a player, who had to be engaged. Didn’t show much during workouts and pick up games, but was great when he was engaged during games. Does Chance need to be engaged to play well? Consider the following comments from Chance and Schmidt. — “I feel like I need to be more consistent if I’m being honest,” Moore said. “Consistency, that’s what takes players from good to great.” — “They really preach work ethic here, getting in that extra work and outside of practice as well.” — “Schmidt just holds everyone to such a higher standard,” Moore said. “He’s going to push you every day. He’s going to push you through the things that you may not want to do, but ultimately, will get you better as a player overall and help contribute to us winning more games. — Schmidt expressed his enthusiasm for Moore in a preseason Zoom call “expecting that as long as he is able to sustain a good level of energy, he will excel. He’s a long (guy), he’s athletic. The question ... at the places that he’s been is will he play hard. He’s really gifted and now will he bring that energy? If he does, then we have a really good player.” Remind you, despite Chance’s talent he was just the 6th man on a Missouri State team that finished 9th in the Missouri Valley. Did problems of engaging or "lack of energy" during practices, prevent him from being a star at Missouri State? According to above comments, Schmidt has helped Chance to engage or improve his lack of energy. Hopefully we see it for rest of the season, because he has been a star the first 2 games. www.oleantimesherald.com/newsletter/engaged-moore-lifts-bona-past-canisius-87-78/article_dbd51770-9eff-11ef-8131-b74f1f4521fc.htmlwww.oleantimesherald.com/newsletter/consistency-key-for-moore-as-sbu-newcomer/article_e3b5b104-965b-11ef-b0cf-f3108a5ac2a4.html
