I saw a lot of good things. Still wish we pulled it out though. Rally hard tomorrow and come back at 7–1.

Thompson will be ok, get off his back a lil. He is a very young player, I’m willing to live with some growing pains now for a long term future with him

With all that Duane time, I'm assuming Jaxon was simply not available--if not, why? All that Duane time? He played 8 minutes tonight, which is his season average. As for Jaxon, Schmidt made sort of cryptic comment at the end of the Gary Nease pre-game interview that Jaxon was not available tonight. Gary did not follow up with the obvious question of Why? He's either hurt or something is going on.

Entertaining game to watch though a bit painful at times. Stats were fairly even except for fouls (20-12), free throws (28-15) and points off turnovers (13-2).
Amazing defensive performance by the Bonnies to limit USU to 34% shooting and 6/28 from behind the arc. We rebounded better in the second half and only had 10 turnovers for the game.
I read a few posts complaining about about the refs — they were not great early on — but the Bonnies had challenges getting good shots during a couple stretches. We seemed to miss Brown who was open in the post a handful of times … not being patient nor committed enough.
USU got great shots during their decisive run midway through the second half. Bonnies led 37-28 two minutes into the second half. The Aggies then outscored us 29-9 over the next 12 minutes to build a 57-46 with 5:29 left.
Credit to our guys for fighting until the end. Bowen was ultra-aggressive going to the hoop.

Need more production from the bench. Hinton missed shots that he normally makes. Thompson appears to be in a funk after a strong start to the season. I think you have to keep playing Bolanga in hopes that he starts playing better. I don’t think Edwards was available today. Get a win tomorrow and i’ll be satisfied.

What have you seen that indicates he has the capability of playing better? Play the best players. I don’t care what he did in France, the guy bricked a three, turned the ball over, and got lost on defense in the 5 minutes he played.

I can’t give the Bonnies a pass on this one. Utah shot 34% from the field , 21% from three point range, and we still couldn’t beat them. And I still don’t think Utah is a very good team. The Bonnies played hard? They get paid to. They should play hard. They will get better? They have been shooting 3’s since they were 8 years old. If they can’t hit the “3” with any consistency by now, they are never going to. Am I proud of their performance? No. They got beat on national tv. I understand this is a very negative post from a huge Bona fan. They will have their moments, and who knows what may happen in conference play. But I have seen the good and the great Bonnie teams, and from what I have seen so far, this isn’t one of them. I hope I am wrong.

Hermit, who over cooked your turkey today? Yikes! This team if nothing else is going to be entertaining all year. Just enjoy the ride this year. They are learning to play basketball the Schmidt way and should get consistently better.

Looking back you kinda look at missed opportunities in the 1st half. It felt like we should’ve had a bigger lead

Believe in this team. Alot of learning still going on but some thoughts-foul shooting must get better /surprised Brown kept out as long as he was- he bever got a 4th foul btw snd we needed him. Dont understand why Jones was on the bench for so long during last stretch of game. He has to play. Hinton couldnt hit much of anything tonight. Some werent even close Thompson/Bolonga with some critical to’s. Some positives tonight but the funk in the second half did us in. Refs were ok but fouls too uneven— our guys got hammered numerous times with no calls. Let’s win tomorrow

Had a chance in final 2 mins due to tough finishing D created by our speed and length.
Hard to overcome being outscored by 13 from the stripe. We made 4 more buckets.

Hard to win with prolonged scoring droughts. We scored just 3 points in a span of just over 10 minutes of game time in the second half. Three points. Ten minutes.

Lets be honest - we really hadn't played a good team going into this game ... We could have gotten boat-raced out of the building early, but we didn't. We hung tight and surged at the end of the 1st half - clearly showing we had the talent to hang with and BEAT a TOP 25 level team. The turning point was when NOEL picked up his 3rd foul with 15 minutes left (As predicted - that was the one player we could not afford to lose for any significant length of time / Mike is not ready for prime-time minutes). Chance picking up his 3rd foul 2 minutes later really stung too. They were just too big and overwhelmed us without NOEL & Chance. Even when they returned - they couldn't play the way they had on Defense in the 1st half. The foul discrepancy was glaring - it seemed like USU got the whistle on every drive where there was contact - We received no such whistles. I was screaming at the screen - CALL IT BOTH WAYS !!! JONAH's shot was way off last night - he looked real tight. He hit a big one during our late come-back though, to me - that showed he is a gamer. Lajae was a bit tentative as well but hit a big 3 during the comeback - he is a gamer too. Duane and Noah still looked "not ready for prime-time". Jonah-Noah-Duane all had open looks for 3s that they did not knock down. Looks that USU got and DID knock them down. All in all - I really like what I saw from the standpoint that we DO have a talented team that plays TOUGH D with heart and intensity. We need to keep chopping wood and become more proficient at attacking the ZONE Defense. In the 1st half - we were getting into the middle of the zone and hitting 8-12 foot floaters & jumpers that they had no answer for. With NOEL out - they no longer had to keep their big on the block to watch him. They could then pull-up and take away that shot from the lane. Tonight is a good opportunity to get right back up on that horse and grind one out. This one will show us what we've got - a real character builder. Like MIKE TYSON says ... "Everyone's got a plan until they get punched in the face." Anxious to see how we react ...
