Football or no football, obviously SBU is in need of a turf facility. From a Nov issue of the BV.
"That is absolutely embarrassing. Embarrassing for the lacrosse team. Embarrassing for the soccer programs. Embarrassing to students. Embarrassing to the athletic department, and university. "For a D-I soccer game to be moved to a high school field with better facilities is an embarrassment". "Just imagine how that next recruiting trip for a soccer player from the local area is going to go. What's our best pitch line? Hey, if you come play D-I soccer for us, you can play your home games on a HS field you already played on." "The men's and women's teams combined to play nine of their total 35 games at home. That's almost a 4-1 ratio." " Nice up-to-date facilities attract better recruits. Better recruits can mean more wins. More wins mean more publicity. More publicity means more money." Even our own students can see the big picture. We have an alum in the turf business and someone who had wanted to donate $ for upgrades to the soccer field before. Make an effort to get it done!

First off let me say that I think a multi-purpose athletic field would be a great idea. The effort to get that done however might be bigger than you think.
The baseball field was not a cheap project, and it was made possible by a VERY wealthy former baseball player, and it would take the same generosity to take on another project.
So I agree that a new field is a great idea just going to be a tough sell, or should we say buy.

There were some rumblings about a month ago that there were some potential donors considering the possibility of making this soccer/lacrosse turf field happen. It really is desperately needed, as the better overall athletic facilities SBU has, the more attractive it looks for the "next conference shake up."

Agreed, and not to mention the better the overall facilities help with all recruits and sport loving students.
If I were going to come to Bonnies to play Baseball or Basketball I would take into consideration all of the facilities. The baseball field now is tops in the area, however if you look next to it and see a mud pit for a soccer field that has got to throw you off a bit.

Maybe if we had a men's lacrosse team we would be more likely to have donors willing to donate to a multi-sport turfed field or two.

300,000 for Schmidt. Ha. 167,000 for Solomon? Yikes! I know the guy didn't do much but wowza things have changed. Kinda hard imagining a coach at bonas making less than half a mil now.

West End thanks for bumping this. It was a fun trip back in time for someone that wasn't on here back then and it was fun to see some of the same names still posting. I do wonder what ever happened with faculty raises. Also is paying Schmidt near triple what he started at is the Franciscan thing to do? ??
