James Williams Profile
James Williams, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound versatile sophomore at Cloud County Community College (Kansas), committed to St. Bonaventure. ``I was very familiar with the coaches because they have recruited me since the spring," Williams said. "I wanted to see the campus and see how I fit in and I really enjoyed my visit and clicked with the players."
Williams played his high school ball at Highland Park in Topeka and also considered Loyola (Ill.), Denver and James Madison.
The Bonnies are so high on Williams that they feel he may be able to replace all-conference guard Ahmad Smith, who is a senior this season.

They also feel Dave Fox is a D1 candidate!

Williams led his team to a state championship. These are the kind of players we NEED to recruit.

Mr Williams was upgraded from a 1-star recruit to 2-stars in scouthoops.com.
As was mentioned earlier, Jourdan Morris was upgraded from 2-stars to 3-stars.
Now the big challenge, a low post threat that is 6'8" or taller coming in as a frosh!

Like everyone else, I hope James Williams becomes a star at Bonas and I welcome and congratulate him in choosing Bonas. But the fact remains James is a low profile recruit and so far Solomon has had disappointing results with these type of recruits (Kern Carter, Andy Smith and Brian Gibbs). I remember someone stating (in a seperate thread) the reason why James did not start last year was freshmen rarely start at the JUCO level. Well James was a backup to Adam Vogelsberg, who was the leading scorer during his freshman season. Adam was a star on Cloud County's team and he is now playing at low major Middle Tennessee State. Should we expect James to outperform Adam Vogelsberg? I hope he does, but it still will not make him a high profile recruit. Chuck you make one heck of a welcoming committee for any recruit who more than likely reads this board to find a bit out about his new school !

Chuck, how can you compare Williams with Gibbs and Smith? Here is a kid that led his high school to a state championship. He played more minutes than anyone else on his JUCO team, coming off the bench.
Please give the kid a chance....

My prediction is that Williams averages 15-17pts per game this season and that we will be praising this staff for signing him early.

Chuck you make one heck of a welcoming committee for any recruit who more than likely reads this board to find a bit out about his new school ! JH, I'm curious what you believe James Williams would find objectionable in my post. Despite what you may believe my welcome to James was sincere and as I stated I hope he becomes a star. The reality is James was the 6th man on his JUCO team, have to believe he knows he is a low profile recruit. Also certain he is ready and anxious to prove he is better than higher profile recruits. Much like Barry Munger, when he came to the Bonnies. I hope he becomes another Barry Munger and proves he is a steal for Solomon. Purpose of my post was to state honestly his current profile, because I thought there were inaccuracies. Mangham I only stated he is a low profile recruit and did not give a prediction on what type of player he will be for the Bonnies. I'm only comparing James to Andy Smith, Brian Gibbs and Kern Carter as being a low profile recruit. Only need to check out Scout to realize he is a 1 or 2 star recruit. You are making an assumption that I'm stating a low profile recruit is equivalent to being a bad player, which is wrong. Only need to look at Munger, Hagan and Bremer to prove this as being incorrect. Just like yourself I'm ready to give him a chance and am anxious to see him have a great career at Bonas.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
James Williams from Cloud County (JC) KS has verbally committed to St. Bonaventure and this too is a huge catch. Not only are we talking about one of the best junior college 2-guards in the nation, but Williams is versatile enough to play the one, two, and three spots and is a terrific scorer, passer, and rebounder. In other words, the Bonnies have found the ideal replacement for 6'5 Sr Ahmad Smith and 6'4 Sr Wade Dunston, as well the perfect complement to 6'0 Soph Tyler Relph, who is expected to step in and run the show after transferring from West Virginia to St. Bonaventure a year ago.
the above text is from hoopscoop.
Hoopscoop also ranks him as a (6), by comparison, Andres Sandoval, Dayton is a (3), Hernol Hall, Duquesne is a (8), and Joe Mbang is a (6).
FYI, James opens the season tonight at Cowley CC.

Great right up by Hoop scoop, but I still have to ask why wasn't he being recruited by at least high mid majors? And yes maybe I put to much stock into who else is recruiting a player, but it worries me when the rest of the A-10 are landing recruits being mentioned with Big East schools and we are being mentioned with CAA & MAAC schools. There are alto of hidden gems out there and for our sake I hope James and Jourdan are two of them. If you go to the A-10 board and look at the commitments the other A-10 schools are getting it is very impressive to see the schools they are beating out. And it's not just the big hitters, La Salle & Duquense have had a terrific fall period. I know recruiting is not an exact science, but by the looks of the players being singed by other A-10 schools we will have to either find hidden gems or start out recruiting higher caliber programs to regain competitiveness in the A-10.

Wasn't it just Canisius and SBU after Lanier? I'm sure there's a story about that recruiting battle? I wonder if at that point in time were both schools considered as top 100 D1 programs?

I agree Bear. I Look at the same thing. But what makes me a bit anxious is, I can think of at least 4 guys we've signed who weren't even starters...
Gibbs (JC 6th man), Fox (did not start in HS, and averaged lesss than 1/2 a game at Mercyhurst), Williams (Siena), and this Williams!
Lanier was almost 40 years ago, and things were a bit different then. I guess I am not really sure of what your point was, but at that time, there may not of been too many more than 100 D1 teams. So it would be safe to say we were top 100!
