An SBU law school is hardly Indiana Tech or Cooley. The Study of Law is indeed a respected professional calling, and continues to be very popular - despite the fact that some college enrollment levels have fallen in the past several years. That is no way reflects on the value of a graduate legal education. An SBU Law School in the tradition of Catholic higher education would be a stable addition to our course offering. No Cooley or Tech here thank you very much - more like Catholic University, Fordham, Duquesne, and Ava Maria, all excellent example of Catholic principles.

firstdev - Stop already!! Olean is not D.C., NYC, Pittsburgh or Naples, FL. No way are you going to attract even 3rd tier law profs to a campus that is 75 miles from a major city. It's not going to happen. How about just tweaking SBU undergrad courses to make it a very attractive liberal arts school and a very good business school?

I think Firstdev has a great idea, and he should pursue it with a $1 million donation designated for the Law School. This sum will get the attention of the administration and then they can work with him on additional funding plans, then do the planning, and all other steps required to build the "Firstdev" law school. If he believes in it so much, this is the least that he can do....otherwise he should shut up.

I am all about using sports to connect the community (alumni, prospective students, general sports fans) to the school. I am not sure that a SBU baseball game at Frontier field would draw but I wouldn't be opposed to a game that was an alumni outing that served beer and invited prospective students to meet with admissions to answer questions. This is a great point - one of the main reasons for my attendance at SBU was a consistent barrage by two alumni (dads of my friends) that told me how great a place it was, and that I would truly enjoy it. The more prospective student / alumni connection, the better. Does it make sense to have Alumni & Prospective Student Families gather throughout the year or during high school events? I'm sure targeting the major feeders in Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse/NYC/Pittsburgh would go miles with little effort (knowing some of the alums in those cities).

There are nine catholic high schools in Cleveland, all within 2 1/2 to 3 hours of Bona. How many of these students are attending Bona?
Are we even recruiting this area?

I was on campus a couple of weeks ago, and if anyone has a few million to spare, I would suggest throwing it into Plassmann before starting any new schools. It looked like something out of that History Channel series "Life after People" and that was just the outside. I hate to think of what it looks like on the inside.
The rest of the campus showed very well. I was there on the 4th and most things were locked up, but some of the buildings were open. The Swan Center was open so we took a walk through. Very nice, as I expected. The 70's addition to the library could use a cosmetic update. Campus makes quite a nice walk on a beautiful day.

Friar - Well said. We will see if this administration can bring this community together, and build a consensus. Or whether it will be more of the same top down approach. Stay tuned.

To bring this full circle, the title of this thread says it all -- pretty condescending! Why should the administration listen/respect your views, when you clearly show no respect to them. Firstdev, you're a pompous misogynist!

Oh, yes, no criticism of this administration, allowed and throw in the political correctness angle too. Perfection does not warrant opposing views right? Read through the Bill of Rights sometime for a refresher, American is the free market of ideas and opinions. I know you official members of the Carney fan club/defenders of the realm/advocates of the inner circle/millionaires club will appreciate that angle.

One can criticize the administration and be respectful at the same time. However, firstdev, you choose to do so in a disrespectful manner. I tend to find the former approach to be more effective, be taken more seriously, and facilitate the open dialogue you so crave. Others may or may not agree.
If you want input, I suggest you set up an appointment with Sister Margaret or others in the Administration. Try your disrespectful or non-politically correct approach. I'm sure that approach will get you all of the respect you feel you deserve. Your approach has clearly served you well here.
