quickly scanned this thread and most of the comments are just outrageous. Guess im in the minority when i say ill take a bunch of positives from this game. These early OOC games are scheduled for this reason: work out kinks, see where production will come from, and allow your vets/leaders to get back in the flow of things. Funny how everyone becomes and expert and thinks they know this team inside and out after two games. I don't know about taking much positive out of this one (other than Cumberbatch and Posley stepping up in big ways). Still, it is one game, and a very early one. Hard to draw conclusions based on what we saw here. If Bona's had won by 20, I wouldn't be predicting a NCAA tourney run ... the same way playing badly and losing a very winable game in November doesn't make me think the entire season is lost.

I am hoping they are able to use this as a way to improve because otherwise you have to throw out the game footage completely. Schmidt didn't look nearly as unhappy as the circumstances would normally warrant. I was speculating that perhaps he doesn't feel that the guys are listening to him and that he can hit them over the head with this sort of "teaching moment".

I will watch the archived game and try to determine what happened. It was very apparent that the inside was clogged, no room for Yousou or Dion to manuever. That is where an "inside out game", where you bring it in and then out to the guards should have worked.....there was little ball movement. The staff will watch and re-watch and hopefully create a plan to beat the 2/3 zone.....hopefully our players don't become too hesitant to shoot.....there is a balance.

I can't be the only one that isn't surprised by the result or even the performance on the court. Siena is a good club. They made a lot of progress over the course of the season last year. They won the CBI and the team has a lot of experience playing together. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013%E2%80%9314_Siena_Saints_men%27s_basketball_teamSBU is still coming together. Recall how poorly Kentucky played against Buffalo in the first half? That Kentucky team has lot more experience playing together. They went on a late summer tour to get more experience together. If anything, I think it shows the talent and potential by the fact the game was within reach. Siena is the better team, SBU has the better talent. There is more upside at SBU and hopefully it is developed and realized by the post season. Yes, there is a lot of work to be done but they still have time to put it together for A10 play. They are right on track for what I expected, though I wish they would have pulled out the win.

I agree Pinnum. Besides a frosh point guard my other concern was how Youssou would be integrated into this run and gun team. The answer: he hasn't. Youssou did not play well, but he was not given a chance either. They have to set up and utilize him when the break is not there. They will figure it out.

fjs64, thought that Long had a good game.
As I saw it,Bonas played with Siena all game long and it seemed as if it all turned south on one missed shot by Andell with then, Siena coming down the floor and making the basket. After that, the Bonnies played a lot of the game on their heels, they just seemed to play flat at times on defense with a lot of " one and done " ( i.e. JUCO style Bball ) offensive positions. A learning experience for all those involved.
Gotta love the way X Smith played. ( still needs to work on his outside jumper )
The team misses a healthy and productive Jorden Gathers and Denzel Greg. Hope that they will both be ready by the time League play starts.
How about the Siena Coach Potoas - totally out of control and never got T-ed up. Which brings up the officiating of last nights game was just - rotten !
Bonnies will have their hands full with the Griffs - if they can make the trip down from Buffalo.
Go Bonnies

I had to stop actively watching because I was disturbing the household with my reactions to the minimal offense. After the 3rd time screaming about just passing it around, with no movement, and then chucking up a long shot, the family had enough. I think it may have been after the time Dion took his "NBA" three attempt.
I want to chalk up Yousou's mishanding of the ball so many times to his being overanxious. Like the receiver starting to run before he has the ball in football. I hope that is it.
The only positive I can see coming out of last night is if coach can, in fact, use it as a learning experienc. I'm starting to cringe a bit when I hear/read about the guards stepping up (when it means hitting from the outside) since I fear that, unless corrected, last night's pattern could turn into the Mosely, Johnson, Conger team of 2 years ago. Too much individual contribution at the expense of team execution and wins.

thesocalkid: Nobody is talking about the officiating because Bonas played rotten, but when Bona cut it to 3pts (or 4 ?), there were at least three rotten calls that went against them. One of them was when the Siena player put his shoulder into "You" for an obvious offensive call. Acting, because "You" flopped? Maybe, but when a player leads with the shoulder and makes contact he is creating space.
The glass is half full: As rotten as we played, we came close to pulling it out.

I listened to the Gary Nease postgame interview with Coach Schmidt. The coach seemed far more emotional than in the post-game press conference. I thought I heard his voice break a few times. In any event, he was very frustrated by the quality of play and shot selection and gave the distinct impression that there is some hard work ahead for the team to get where he wants it.

Baron is drawing up a plan to walk out of the RC Saturday with a win. Our guys need to get back to the basics and keep the pressure on. I didn't see that last night. I think Dartmouth gave us a false sense of confidence. Hopefully last night brings a sobering reality to the situation.

The Canisius game is now in jeopardy. All north/south roads are impassable, and heavy snow is supposed to shift south to the Allegany/Olean area later tonight. The Bills/Jets game will not be played as scheduled on Sunday due to six feet of snow inside Wilson Stadium. States of Emergency are still in effect in the areas between Olean and Buffalo, and additional feet of snow are due today. This game only has a 50/50 chance at best of being played on schedule.

The season before last, there were videos made available of game preparations and comments from the coaches before and after the games. I thought they were a fantastic look into what goes on, what is said, etc. I don't remember what game it was, but in one of the videos from after a loss, Schmidt was obviously upset, and comments were along the lines of "I've been trying to teach you how you need to play to win, but you want to do it your way..." I wasn't surprised no video was produced after the Forham loss to end that season.
I assume he will be making the same remarks after last night's game.
