I was talking to a friend of mine who graduated from Holy Cross, who also fired their coach. Many on this Board don't know the basketball heritage of this now Patriot league team. Not only did they reject an invitation to join the Big East in 1980, but they really feel academics is important.....maybe they should help North Carolina. Anyway, Holy Cross has a rich basketball heritage, winning the NCAA tournament when only 8 teams were invited. Such great alumni as Bob Cousy, Tommy Heinsohn (both of Boston Celtic fame), Joe Mullaney, and my contemporary Jack 'the shot" Foley all played for the "Cross"......you can get a good feel of them in this........... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Cross_Crusaders_men's_basketball

Former Dayton coach Oliver Purnell resigns at DePaul. Dr G of LaSalle is a possibility for the job.

Dr. G? Sounds like they will reach higher than that.

Dr. G? Sounds like they will reach higher than that. Dr. G is about the only type of coach that would take that job. How long has it been since anyone has succeeded at DePaul?

I can't say DePaul is in a great position to succeed right not, but they are in the process of building a new arena just south of the loop in Chicago near the White Sox stadium. The problem with DePaul is they play their home games 15-20 miles NW of the actual campus in Rosemont. They had an offer to play games free of rent at the Bulls' United Center but turned it down.
There's probably not a worse location in major college hoops for an arena than DePaul's Allstate Arena. Students don't go to games, I don't believe public transist takes you right to the arena, and in the dead of the winter, no one is going to break their back to see them play.
An arena much closer to downtown could really help revive the DePaul program.
Dr. G is from Chicago, and I think he would do a good job there if they indeed get the new arena.
I'm pulling for the Blue Demons!

Job pays $2mill per year I think. To answer the above posts a lot of people would take that job for that kind of salary.

Ben howland has been mentioned, I think he gets it over the DR, if he wants it.

Dr. G is a .500 coach - so don't knock him - we have one too.

Ben howland has been mentioned, I think he gets it over the DR, if he wants it. The now infamous Sports Illustrated article seems to keep many AD's from looking too closely at Howland - fair or not!

how about hurley from UB to DePaul? DePaul is still in the big east..hurley should have mega east coast recruiting ties...his top assistant has extensive recruiting ties in Michigan...check out the current UB roster...the blue demons [largest catholic university in the US] program has been very bad for a long time...it started with joey meyer getting caught housing hoopers in luxury, donor owned condos in the loop area...they brought in kennedy...he recruited studs..including kids from the Chicago public schools...but operated too close to the Mendoza line...recruiting at DePaul is very tricky...the Chicago kids come at a steep cost...$$ wise and baggage wise...two of the last 4 huge names were D Rose -act test anyone? and Anthony Davis - his pops had his hand out for a big payday...exceptions to the rule were Okafor and Parker. There is a lot of talent in the city and burbs..but it has been tough to throw up the proverbial fence to keep kids in state...Illinois has 10 D1 schools..none of which are in the tourney this year, and this isn't the first year that this has happened..the city and state are ripe for the picking !
