I understand why some would be offended at the "shot" at our broadcast stream. Coming from someone who graduated I understand how it would draw some ire. Criticizing our school certainly doesn't play well over the internet. However, nothing Jon said is untrue. While free (which is great!) our feed is generally very poor compared to similar programs and almost all A10 schools have paid broadcasters too. This is not an opinion but a fact. Other schools do have much better broadcast packages; obviously they have much more money too....We get that. Hell, there's even been a massive thread on this board calling for HD streaming games. People have offered to pay extra. So, it's important to understand that some of these "shots" are very popular opinions from Bonnies fans. If you're a die hard and want to believe that there's no room for improvement with the RC/our video Stream, etc you can do that. But that would be foolish in trying to keep up with the Jones' in college basketball. This is a space where if you don't keep up with these programs you will be left in the dust. Calling to attention that things like video boards, new seats, a new team bus, better video production could be improved is needed. It does not mean anyone "hates" their school or is a "Cuse fans" it just means they'd like to see upgrades for their program and school. If you'd ask anyone inside the Athletic department they would say the exact same things. Just my thoughts. www.thebonablog.com

Just to make sure everyone understands, the eFG% I cited is "effective field goal percentage." Three point shots that go in are worth 50% more points than 2-point shots that make it. That makes eFG% the best metric in comparing two teams field shooting efficiency. For an even more complete metric, many also like to use TS%, the "true shooting percentage," which factors in free throw shooting accuracy. I used eFG% in the game preview as well and it stuck out how "efficient" Hofstra has been from the floor. They run a very similar offense to what Niagara ran with Joe, but he has an extra athlete or two to make it deadly when they find open shots. I was debating using the TS% but also don't want to bog down a game preview when people just want a quick read. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, jmay, TS% is a mystery to many so I might as well state the formula: TS% = Points Scored/{2 x (FGA + (0.44 x FTA))} A very interesting piece of info on a team it is. Bonnies through the first 4 games tallied a TS% of 56.5 vs. our opponents' collective 53. Edit: Those who enjoy this nerdy side of the game--as I do-- may want to read this discussion of TS%: badmanbureau.com/2014/03/05/the-truth-about-true-shooting-percentage/

a little birdie told me - Hofstra had a great practice at the RC. Looking to get the Bonnies in early foul trouble again. They don't think the Bonnies defense is enough to stop them the whole game long so, they are going to drive the base line. They don't think the Bonnies have anyone that can handle their BIG men. They know that the students are " off again " on break. Local court side fans MUST play a 6th man role for the Bonnies to win. Those sitting in the Red seats need to be involved the entire game - PLEASE. GO BONNIES I just got done catching up and reading two pages of the Hofstra thread and I have one question. Are we playing Kentucky or Hofstra?

Are we playing Kentucky or Hofstra? Hofstra! But a 20 win team a year ago who lost virtually nothing from their roster that is worth noting is something to look at as an early season test. This team is a relative unknown to a lot of fans but should be a good game. Their rosters and style of play are very similar which is intriguing. Also, after watching holiday hoops, a nice "reminder" win at home against a team that can be beat would be nice to sort of match up with the rest of the league. It's not like UofR beating Cal, but it would be nice to get another win on the board for the Bonnies. This is a great OOC scheduled game, games that I feel Bona needs to have more off. I appreciate the Binghamtons, Cornells and Loyolas of the world but I want to see more physical teams and challenging opponents on the schedule. It's more complicated than that we all know, but new AD may have different thoughts.

I'm not on my personal PC but I think KenPom has this as our toughest non-conference game after Syracuse. Pretty sure anyway...They are no doubt a very good mid-major squad who should be dancing in March. This will be a good game and test our ability to defend and score in a high-tempo game. www.thebonablog.com

Being in the Buffalo area, it really wasn't that long ago that I was out in my car in the garage trying to pick up the game on the Pig or a country station out of Lancaster that broadcasted some of the games...................I found out it was SOME of the games when I turned on a Sunday game only to hear a polka show. I called the station asking WTF?!? And, they said we don't broadcast all the games. Just the ones that fit our schedule.
I'll take what we have now!

How about using the blog to be constructive to SBU - do a blog about why the stream is not better - what funds would be needed to make it better - and maybe lead a donor effort to acquire the funding to make it better...
Sure beats the heck out of trashing our school on the internet to opposing fans.....

Correct me if I am wrong but with the recent addition of 8 games to Time Warner Sports I believe we are left with only four untelevised home games all season (including Bing and Loyola).
With that in mind, it has to be asked if the University's resources could be better spent elsewhere than on upgrading the truck to HD capability when it will be used for only a handful of games.
Setting the lack of HD aside, the quality of the SBUTV broadcast is pretty high in comparison to many other schools. Dedicated TV commentators and instant replay capability are not typically features of opponents broadcasts when the Bonnies are on the road.

Get the equipment up to speed so our students could ultimately produce and broadcast these games and feed the games up to Time Warner and Fios etccc - makes many fans happy and would be an incredible recruiting tool for general students thinking about going to a University for mass communications. Possibly expand to baseball games and soccer games showing off to upstate NY our new fields.

Sure beats the heck out of trashing our school on the internet to opposing fans..... Trashing? Hardly folks. Saying something on a message board and a injecting my own humor isn't trashing. Bad taste? Whatever you think it is, it is. That's the joy of commenting in public. If saying things in jest are horrible than shut the Internet down! It's how I talk to everybody and what I said is simply the truth. If they were to charge for that broadcast we'd all be complaining about the lack of quality and lack of of insight from the student commentators. The broadcasts are not clean and as a school that needs every sort of edge when it comes to promoting this school and the program, we are behind when it comes to production value. Teams like St. Louis and Richmond have practically their entire season televised at least locally which provides a chance to market their team and raise awareness to the program. It's a welcome sight to see TWC broadcasting a bunch of games now bc being in the A10 and the way the league is structured in larger markets now, Bonas needs to look at all their approaches to the status quo and build off each deficiency. One would be producing telecasts in HD and getting those telecasts at least onto the A10 app for people to watch on all devices. Right now our stream isn't IOS compatible on mobile devices and if you look at how other teams produce and distribute games, they're widely available on all devices. It leads to greater exposure from ease of access. As an academic tool, it's a great idea except there may be other events where students can take the lead and let more seasoned people take over for the flagship product. Athletics are the front door to the university and we all know what it's like to bash another stream when they're homers! This is our welcome mat and quite frankly it's below standard. As a future thought and rather than simply complain from my end but why aren't we broadcasting other sports in today's technological landscape? What's stopping a student broadcast of soccer, baseball, lax or softball? Broadcast those over the internet with less viewership to hone their craft. The students will still have their master tracks to use for job interviews and it also gives students more opportunities than just basketball. Lastly,I If I feel something is needing criticism I'll criticize bc the Blog isn't just PR for the school. You'd just be getting a copy and pasted article from the SID which is nice but is so standard and plain that the Blog is a refreshing take. If Ian had the vision to just be PR he could've set up a news feed and been done with it. He's proud and so are the guys writing. I don't get paid and wouldn't take a dime to do this, I do it bc I love my school and feel strongly on certain things. If i say something that offends you my apologies. If you find my comments in bad taste so be it. As a blog writer, I love it bc we need to get these topics talked and the feedback is instant. I want more ideas on what you guys want addressed in podcasts. If you wanna skype in during the taping, I'm all for it! We can talk about your thoughts and even rip me for 'Being a Bills who also loved Syracuse'way before I knew Bonas existed. Just keep it clean with the language. Hopefully we can do a listerner choice cast and open the floor. I'll work on the tech specs and I can get it done. Enjoy the game everybody, it's gonna be a good one.

Amen. We all appear to have forgotten that you must be pc all of the time in 2015, god forbid you offend anyone in this day and age. We need more donations, higher enrollment, you name it. I for one don't care about the tone or if it was said on another board, the truth hurts.
