T'aint happening. Bona doesn't have a leg to stand on. Resume is too weak to merit a bid. Still, no reason to hang heads. Won 20 overall and 11 in league. Must fare better vs the elite clubs next season. I can't believe I am home writing on this board tonight, but with a new baby and since I was out late last night watching hoops games I stuck at home.... I am not a troll and actually a big SBU fan. I do not like sugarcoating stuff.... I honestly can say this was not a good season at all... They had a 20 wins season; however, they had ZERO quality wins. They played 10 teams that were ranked within the top 100 RPI and they lost them all.... They do not deserve to play in the NIT.... FYI - look at all of the sites ... no consideration... Last year they did well, but they needed to defeat Davidson... The bracketologist are not always correct, so it is always important to do well in your tournament. If coach Schmidt can't get SBU in the tournament next year the school needs to move on.. Next year will be his 11th season... (1 NCAA appearance and 1 NIT appearance with zero wins)... If he can't get it done next year the university needs to reevaluate him as a coach... So how long will people be okay with this? 12th season, 13th, 14th....... And the talk about J. Adams and the NBA is a laugh riot... He would have to make a gigantic jump next year..... Do you realize Isaiah Whitehead left early and was only picked 42 and he is a lot better than J. Adams.. ...

Are Mr. Blueskies and his merry men all sure that the NIT uses the same criteria for selection as the NCAA? Or does attendance and the ability to draw a TV audience come into play for the NIT? I was thinking the same thing. Last year our attendance was excellent and our crowd was loud and supporting our team after the snub. I think there is a decent chance, but wait, I also thought we would beat URI

I am inclined to agree with you except with Schmidt. You can throw his first 4 years out the window for how bad we were. While I agree Bona has not made the next step under Schmidt until we decide to substantially improve facilities and substantially improve budget in no way shape or form could we expect another coach to do better than Schmidt. Look at UMass, Duquesne, George Mason, even Rhode Island (except this year) all with much bigger budgets/better facilities....alll with less success the past 5 years compared to Bona.

It looks like the A10 winds up with three tourney bids again this year if Rhody wins the championship today. I believe they deserve an at-large bid even if they lose. They've got some good talent there, especially now that they're back up to strength. E.C. Matthews seems to be back to potential. It will be an interesting contest for A10 player of the year next year with Jay, E.C., and Peyton Aldridge in their senior years. I know, it's too early to start talking about that. Just hope the Bonnies don't have any unforeseen losses next year, Courtney Stockard lives up to promise, and our JC big comes through as advertised.

I don't think its ever to early too talk about anything on this site, except for maybe a game that isn't next during the season, it's kind of the point of this site..

That is a lot of time my man.... If this team doesn't make the tournament next year it won't happen for many more years.... I read a post earlier today when one said the a10 is so much better now.... really? Umass was a national power... Temple and Xavier etc... The conference is definitely not better... 20 wins in the a10 should mean you should get into the NIT, but not when you haven't had one top 100 victory.... Next year will be his 11th season... if he doesn't make it then it won't happen... can't wait year and years after that.... It all comes down to next year...

Only hope Rhode Island knocked Syracuse out!!!!!!
And - it takes 7-9 years now to build a program - used to take 3-5 but with parity, players leaving for the pros etc... its tougher. Schools need to be more patient with their coaches as they build a program. Four years throw away makes total sense when you think about the disaster we were in and how Schmidt has rebuilt the program and reputation of the Bonnies. We are in a good spot and ready to go to the next level.

I believe it takes 5 years to build a program, but my biggest gripe with Schmidt is that he never even got to the NCAA tourney when he was with Robert Morris, I'm not sure he is capable. I'm not telling everybody he is terrible, just saying that he might not have what it takes to get to the dance. A lot of that has to do with him as a in game strategist. He definitely has the talent of finding diamond in the rough type of players and he def beats up on most of the bad teams, but he really struggled against really good coaches in my opinion. As others have stated if he can't get to the dance next year it might be time to look elsewhere and take a chance.

If we are in this same spot now or even lower 3 years from now will you be happy?

Congrats URI Rams, well-deserved crown, great defensive job on VCU. The final bubble burst for some unfortunate club. All gather round the tube at 6 and see who plays whom and where.

As others have stated if he can't get to the dance next year it might be time to look elsewhere and take a chance. We had the best player we had in a very very long time and we had to pull off a miracle to get to the dance.... Nicholson was here for four years and Schmidt struggled to build a top 25 team around him. So last year we just missed the tournament. People can say it was the ultimate snub, but I knew that once we lost to Davidson it would be up in the air... We had ZERO quality out of conference wins.... This year we took a step back.... If we can't move two steps ahead and get into the tournament it the next years to follow won't be better... People say silly stuff Sweet 16 or bust on this site.... How can you say that? Tournament or bust.... People are acting like SBU always gets in... we don't ... Next year will be huge.... if next year isn't a good season win us getting into the dance and winning at least a game the next few years after won't be better... That is why if that happens that you have to move on....

On this point nyc, we can agree...there is A LOT at stake next year. For the program, for Schmidt, even Adams. Our Heroes had better be playing somewhere 12 months from now.
Another flatline won't be acceptable to the Bona faithful.

And the anti-Schmidt crusade continues unabated. He will be our coach as long as he wants. He won an A-10 tournament and an A-10 regular season title with two different clubs. Never benn done at SBU before. Enjoy your off season boys and maybe get some new material somewhere.

Can't congratulate them. Might be the cockiest team i have seen. They flex after every made basket-very disrespectful and the coach should not allow it.
