And the anti-Schmidt crusade continues unabated. He will be our coach as long as he wants. He won an A-10 tournament and an A-10 regular season title with two different clubs. Never benn done at SBU before. Enjoy your off season boys and maybe get some new material somewhere. WOW. Hook line & Sinker! You are treating this guy like he got us to the final four..... You are also treating him like a tenured high school teacher.

Can't congratulate them. Might be the cockiest team i have seen. They flex after every made basket-very disrespectful and the coach should not allow it. Unfortunately that seems to be the norm in college ball now.

The guy is a nutjob. I could clearly hear him barking "WORK EM! WORK EM!" nonstop as his player was defending Jay. Total psycho. I guess it worked because Jay was clearly rattled in the first half. No denying Rhode Island's talent. They're physical, athletic and peaking at the right time. I could see a sweet 16 run.

I am inclined to agree with you except with Schmidt. You can throw his first 4 years out the window for how bad we were. While I agree Bona has not made the next step under Schmidt until we decide to substantially improve facilities and substantially improve budget in no way shape or form could we expect another coach to do better than Schmidt. Look at UMass, Duquesne, George Mason, even Rhode Island (except this year) all with much bigger budgets/better facilities....alll with less success the past 5 years compared to Bona. Four years? That is a lot of time my man.... If this team doesn't make the tournament next year it won't happen for many more years.... I read a post earlier today when one said the a10 is so much better now.... really? Umass was a national power... Temple and Xavier etc... The conference is definitely not better... 20 wins in the a10 should mean you should get into the NIT, but not when you haven't had one top 100 victory.... Next year will be his 11th season... if he doesn't make it then it won't happen... can't wait year and years after that.... It all comes down to next year... t So just completely ignore the fact that Schmidt has done more with much less than half the league.

Not that I was ever a Hurley or URI fan, but I cant even respect him after the way he handled himself during our game. In particular complaining about a call while Mobley was still laying on the floor and appeared to be injured. It was a clear cut hard foul by URI nothing more nothing less there was nothing to complain about. I hope that he gets a Tech in a big spot and loses his team a game.

Here's my thoughts on the A10 tournament in Pittsburgh from Bonnies perspective:
1. Bonnies fans were lacking at tourney this year. Sure, we had more fans than a lot of the other schools but I really thought we'd show up in huge numbers and to be honest, it was far less than what we've had at Barclays. I had a hard time convincing fellow alums to meet me there whereas in NYC (where I live) my apartment's floor space is normally packed with fans. I also only ran into a few people from my year. BonaBlog contributor suggested it was laziness (http://thebonablog.com/2017/03/13/pittsburgh-shines-as-host-city-could-the-a10-come-back/). That could be it. It also could have been the awful 2:30 tip off times, or maybe lack of Pitt alums (vs NYC). It's also worth noting that while it may have been a shorter drive for some, airfare into Pittsburgh can be VERY expensive since the airport is not a hub.
2. That being said, I loved Pittsburgh. I had a great time and on a whim, decided to stay on Saturday night and check out the town/st. patty's celebration despite Bonnies bowing out early. Even though Barclays is by far more convenient for me, I'm looking forward to DC next year.
3. Speaking of DC, hopefully the NYC fans, who were severely lacking in Pittsburgh (I only ran into two others), hop on the Acela and make our voices heard far more loudly than the relatively measly Bona crowd in Pittsburgh. It was apparent that other than the students, many of the locals just weren't willing to make the trek to Pittsburgh.
4. Ticket prices were FAR higher this year than in the past. Almost double. It's no wonder they made so much money despite the smaller overall attendance. I think for most fans $50-$80 for early round tickets is out of the question. I hope they rectify that in the future.

This is the biggest argument against the Schmidt haters. We all know he isnt the best coach in the game. His accomplishments get belittled though. Yes, he didnt take RM to the dance but that wasnt a qualification in 2007. We had Will Brown turn down the job and call it career suicide. CAREER SUICIDE. Think about that. Our options were limited and we took a chance on Schmidt. I would say it paid off. To say he has to go to the NCAA next year or we get rid of him is stupid. What precedent does that set? A coach who will probably win 20 games 3 years in a row, won an A10 title and a share or a regular season title gets canned. Who in their right mind would want to come here after that? Some people are too big for their britches here. Dont tell me some hot assistant because most would say thanks but no thanks if the bar is set that high. We are at a point where we all said we wanted to be. Contending in the A10, knocking on the NCAA door every 3-4 years and challenging for the NIT in the others. Is that so bad?

Is that so bad? 0 - 10 against the rpi top 100.... 10 games man... that is a pretty big sample size.... So a little less than a 1/3rd of our games were against RPI top 100 and we lost them all.... COME ON... All you need to do is look and who we lost to and who we beat..... ZERO quality wins.... Does Monmouth have a huge budget? they went 3 - 3 against rpi top 100... Contending in the a10 this year??? We finished fifth place and we had zero top 100 wins... The league is down my man... This is a 14 team league with only 4 teams going to either the NCAA or NIT.... What does that tell you? Its a watered down league. We were the 5th place team.... Do you realize we would have been in last place or 2nd to last place in any good league... You can't argue it.... We didn't show we could beat any team ranked within the top 100... I am just saying if they don't get to the dance next year and you keep this guy it will take another 4 - 6 years.... that is a long time/ then it still might not happen.

He has only had two good not great years... The year they went to the tournament and last year.... The tournament year shouldn't be praised, because he failed to get enough talent around the best player we have had in very long long time... You can blame a lot of things, but he didn't do it.. Last year the team overachieved... We lost a few players and this year was another down year.... He is also benefiting from a league that isn't the league it once was.... Do you see it getting better if we don't make the tournament next year?

Look, no one is perfect. Could Schmidt be a better coach, sure. But basketball is a TEAM sport. Schmidt isn't on the court missing defensive assignments or missing 3's or free throws. Like many, I had high expectations this year after last season. But it didn't happen.
There was definitely a different chemistry on this team. In a post last season I called Posley a stone cold killer. We didn't have that this year.
I don't think Gregg realized out expectations for him this year. Our touted guard tandem regressed as the season progressed. How much did out two big's transferring hurt us?
But to say all this is on Schmidt? Firing him will solve all our problems? Get real. I won't buy into that unless you can convince me a coach of the caliber of Will Wade or Archie Miller will come to us. Anything less would be a regression in my opinion, because you'd have transfer/commitment issues, learning a new system, we'd probably drop to lower middle of the conference.

The program was a mess and that is being nice. We built up to the 2012 team as a result of a few years of labor. To write off that 2012 team and say it shouldnt be praised is a slap in the face to everyone. That was a team effort. We dont win the A10 without Conger's near triple double in the semis and the solid play of Cook, Wright, Mosley..etc. To call 2012 and 2016 good, not great is asinine. Last year's team was a great team We have nothing more to discuss and will have to agree to disagree at this point since you cant even concede the obvious.

Great teams get to the elite eight, final four, win the NCAA championship.... Do you realize he did nothing at Robert Morris... Both of those teams did not exactly do that.... So all 68 teams this year in the tournament are great teams? Some are good, some are very good, and some yes might end up being great.... I guess that is same argument about looks etc... what one views a possibly mate as a 9 or 10 another views that same persona as a 6....
