The thing is, you never know.
Take Siena, for example. After the 04/05 season, Siena lost their coach, their recruits, and had a lot of players transfer. At this time last year, Siena had 5 returning players, and the best of those five would suffer a season-ending injury during the summer. All signs pointed to a "total disaster" of a season. Siena was picked last by every coach in the conference. People were predicting 3-6 wins, MAYBE. They ended up with 15 wins and took the 4 seed into the conference tournament.
If I had to choose between the two situations (Siena going into last season and SBU going into next season), I would pick SBU in a second. The Bonnies are reaching stability and building the program back up. They have a coach who has done a pretty good job with what he was given. You never know when a Michael Lee or a Relph or a Benson is going to break out and have a great year. Have a little faith.

I have to agree with Cosmo and Bonafide. This team isn't going to go far due to the lack of depth we have both on the bench and in the paint. Although bona's is known to chuck it from the cheap seats, we still need a prescense down low. Box +1 could be an answer or using the Funnel defense as well. When UMass did the Funnel defense back in 74 they were very successful. What's more disappointing is sneakers and crew ganging up on bonafide for an opinion. For those who want to give opinions without fear of retaliation come on over to this board. You can TRULY talk about anything here! bonabandwagon.proboards91.com//index.cgiREMEMBER. FUNNEL DEFENSE. SIGNED, PHIL RIZZUTO

Love the loyalty behind Ahmad and yes he was a good player, but lets face it, he was not a dominating player. He was a gaurd with a less than stellar shooting touch. Yes he was a tough gaurd that put up good numbers for us. In my oppinion, Lee will be a more dominating player who showed he can dominate games.

I am hopeful for the much anticipated turn around for the program. The keys to the upcoming season,IMO, will be the performance of Relph, Hawkins and Solomon. There were some things that I saw in Relph that have me optimistic that he will a good producer at the A10 level.
I wish Hawkins received more playing time last year. Perhaps some of his game was not ready for prime time, but there was nothing to lose putting him on the court to get adjusted to the speed of A10 play.
Solomon.....here is the wild card, IMO. I felt he was outcoached many many times during his tenure at SBU. I did not witness any significant improvement from the coaching staff last year. The loss of Gee will be felt unless he is replaced. A sign of a good coach is bringing the best out of his team on a consistent basis. I hope that he is a much improved coach this year because if he isn't, my sense is that fans will be calling for new leadership in the program.
SBU must restore the RC to its former glory if SBU is to be competitive in the A10. It is a recruiting tool all to itself. Put the kids back on floor level.
I am hopeful and excited for the upcoming season.
Lets go Bonas

Rather than maintaining a degree of openness to the unknown-openness to the possibility that things may work out just fine-we instead convince ourselves that we not only know what's going to happen, but also that, whatever "it" is, it's going to be horrible. Just a thought for all you coaching and recruiting experts.

If I remember correctly, there was a similar negativity surrounding the team after Harry Moore's graduation. It was automatically assumed that the team would fall back after losing their best player. Instead, Vanderpool, Quackenbush, and Nelson-Richards stepped up and gave us the first taste of the program's turnaround from the DeCarli/Chapman years. I don't expect that kind of response, but I won't rule out an improved squad.

I certainly disagree with Bonafide's opinion, but I do not have an issue with the fact that he posted it. It sparked a good debate, which is one of the main reasons I visit the board on a regular basis.

Everybody is entitled to their own oppinions even if they do seem quite extreme like only winning 3 games and having a team comparable to 2 seasons ago. I'm sure there is somebody out there that thinks this team could make the NCAA tournament this coming season also. So whether its only 3 wins or a NCAA tournament berth, thats your oppinion. The rest of us should only try to change your oppinion

Can we all at least be consistent in our opinions. I am struggling to understand people who complain about "coaching" but then state the loss of Gee is going to be a negative. Doesn't this give us a chance to improve the "coaching" or is all "coaching" bad just Solomon, and everything good is someone else?
I am disappointed that we are losing Gee and some coaching decisions have baffled me. However, at least at the Marist walkthrough, the pre-game coaching and prep was very accurate and solid - execution was poor. However, they covered every Marist play and how to defend it, who the shooters were, etc.

Dear Sneakers: Indeed you do act like a prick on this board. Do you have some sort of life issues? You must be a profoundly unhappy person to lash out at strangers as negatively as you do. This bashing of others........repressed anger over a personal or employment situation? Perhaps marital problems? Maybe your boss at work is giving you a difficult time? Hmmmmmmmmm....... Why not just lighten up a bit with a Genny Cream Ale or two and head on over to bonabandwagon.proboards91.com//index.cgiand chat with us about your situation. Perhaps we might be able to help. Hell, you might even want to become a Bevelator! More than anything....you simply can't go on this way Sneakers. You come off as..... well........mean spirited and JUST NOT AT ALL FUNNY or even interesting. And, your antisocial behavior has now pissed off ALL OF THE BEVELATORS! On another note....would you please check with your colleague Jim Sickstetuh and ask him if Mary Boyle was a student in the early 60's or if in fact she is the stiff buried in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery? I believe uncovering that piece of information would be a small beginning toward redeeming yourself with the Bevelators. And ....the next time you post, Sneakers, remember that St. Francis wasn't a prick. Please.

I hope your rant makes you feel better about yourself. I'm probably one of the happiest people you will ever meet (thus my optimism about the bonnies). Why is it you bevelators can't have a calm discussion without getting bent if everybody doesn't agree with your opinions? Any response to you or Cosmo or Dullhouse is met with personal attacks. You guys really need to chill. Maybe if your wish comes true and the Bonnies fall to the MAAC, that will make your lives better. I think most Bonnies fans hope that you are wrong (again). Peace. Out.

I'm under the impression that our that our recruiting class this year is as good if not better (the more likely of the two) than last year. There was such a buzz before the season last year, why not this year? Is it just because we lost Ahmad? To me, if Mike Lee, Tyler Relph, and Paul Williams all have a good off season, they'll more than make up for the loss of our beloved star player. Combine this with our new recruits and I think we'll have a much better season. I've been one of the biggest critics of Solomon and I will continue to be but at least give the coach and the team a shot. I'm sure each one of them will work very hard in the off season. I'm also waiting until I see a few games this season before I call the whole season a disaster. Like I said before, put your crystal balls away and don't count the team out 6 mos before they even step foot on the floor.

So what did Jim Sickstetuh have to say about Mary Boyle?

Why don't we call a spade a spade here Sneakers. The real reason you don't like us Bevelators is that we don't put up with your crap. You gave up the right to a calm discussion when you called Bonafide a one trick pony and also made lame Winnie the Pooh references that you probably picked up from your kid's underoos. Notice no one is taking offense to the folks who disagreed in a positive manner, without attacking Bonafide as a person and stated valid reasons for disagreeing. And let's not forget this started out as a civilized basketball discussion until YOU stirred the pot. If you are going to call us out for the rap battling and toilet humor we will continue to call you out for being a flame wad. + = Sneakers

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
IT'S FUNNY CAUSE IT'S TRUE !
but seriously, to the other people on this thread besides sneakers. We love you! It is great to have a civilized discussion with mature people regarding Bona's.
My advice is to ignore Sneakers, he is looking for attention.
