Thanks so much thesenator for posting the information of Jim Taylor's passing, and Ladderman for the obit in the OTH. In the obit it states, 'James will be forever known as one of the last true gentlemen. He never met a stranger that he did not readily call a friend.' What a true statement. Three years ago in the evening summer I was strolling through the RC halls alone savoring memories. When out of the blue an older man was walking towards me near the PE offices and said. 'are you enjoying visiting the campus?' I told Mr. Taylor about my dad graduating from Bona's 39' and myself 77', I knew immediately this was a warm and good hearted man. We went out behind the RC where he introduced me to the love of his life his wife, Judith. We talked about some history of Bona's of which he forgot more than I knew. Then to my surprise Mr. Taylor insists before I leave for Alfred, New York next days destination that I have lunch with him at the Beef and Barrel in Olean the next day. I met him around 1 pm and had a delicious beef on a salted bun, cummelwick and we continued to share Bona memories, and he patiently listened to my soccer stories and coaching at other colleges, he was so sincerely interested. I could not get Mr. Taylor to let me pay for the meal, he insisted. Then he showed me his condo above the Beef and Barrel restaurant, and we chatted on and on. This from a man I never knew prior to a stroll in the RC, we exchanged a Christmas card that year and he sent me a picture of himself with his lovely wife. I met a real Bonaventure man by pure luck that afternoon, who was so full of the Franciscan spirit that I was just blessed to have met him and broke bread together. God Bless and rest in peace James Taylor. PS: Last summer I was unable to get in touch with Mr. Taylor, but found his picture in the RC on the ROTC Hall of Fame wall.

Let me echo MM77's thoughts and comments! Over the last several years I had similar chance encounters with this incredible and wonderful man! It may have been at a game, a reunion, or some other time I may have had reason to be on campus. Invariably, despite our significant difference in years, invariably he always approached me with a smile and handshake, as if we were classmates or old army buddies! Our conversations, whether about Bona's, education or any other topic were always most enjoyable. You simply wanted to be in Jim's presence. As we had more of these chance encounters, I would find myself smiling every time I'd see him approach. I'm not one for exaggeration or hyperbole, but his passing is truly sad. Bona's has indeed lost a great ambassador, proud alum and a favorite son, and the world has lost a very warm and good man.

Came to our school on a few Veteran's Days to speak to our young people. What an inspiration! Long, long time season ticket holder as well.

sony...Nothing to add to your sentiments about Jim except his generosity to Bona over the years.
Thanks to Bingo's Ed Rhodes I was fortunate to be introduced to Jim & his loving wife Judithanne several years ago. Whenever at a game in the RC I made sure I got the opportunity to speak to them both. No matter the score Jim had a bright smile & optimistic outlook that always made you feel good. A loving couple and very memorable Bona man.
Jim's presence and spirit in the RC will be missed but nothing in comparison to his loss to his family and the wider Bona community. God bless him in the Lord's care.
