Thanks for the report Chuck. All who saw Chef play in the RC in late June were impressed with Chef. Potentially having the best veritcal on the team is good to hear. That along with his athleticism, quickness & outside shot makes him a handful to defend.

Jalen finished 2nd to Idris with uncontested dunks. -- Idris was easily the leading scorer, which is attributed to all of the fast break dunks. He scored on a few drives and had one 3, which he made. He struggled some with his stroke. As always Idris showed the most hustle of anyone on the court. Thanks Chuck for the report. The thing that stood out most to me is Taqqee finishing strong on breakaways/uncontested dunks. More than once last season games turned on Taqqee getting blocked on a fast break opportunity. Those plays are often momentum swingers and if he finishes on the break this year it will be a good sign.

TAQQEE turning up his ppg would be a plus but I don't think the team needs a backcourt or wing scorer(whatever you want to classify TAQQEE) as their third option. I think it would be much more important for AYENI to become the third scorer. If JOSH can improve his offensive numbers, and be more consistent in his scoring(seemed to score more in one half than the other last year) it would make the inside-outside game more effective for ADAMS and MOBLEY. Also, if we could get some consistent scoring from AMADI and TSHIEFU, not much, like around 6 ppg, this would help in this area too.

this team needs a healthy Gueye to anchor the front line.

So at this time we only have eight healthy scholarship players? A bit concerning, but hopefully Stockard can play a full and healthy season.

Chuckie Maggio reporting via his twitter we may be without NDENE GUEYE for the entire non con schedule. If this ends up being the case it is going to be paramount our young bigs play smart. I was worried about rebounding and somebody who could finish down low with the loss of Gregg, this news does not ease my concerns.

I was wondering if anyone else who attendedthepick your sats/opening practice this morning had any insights/comments. Up butler had a number of geeks that came up on the bona blog. Stockard practiced, but not in any of the contact stuff. Gueye participated in a number of drills at the end of practice. According to butler her looked ok, not to read too much into either situation, but these seemed like positives to me.

He took part in contact drills. Gueye was out there running, which surprised me. I think he may be further along than some think. LaDarien mainly ran with the first team. Coach stressed defense! Just as he did last year. I know, at the beginning of last season, you wouldn't have thought they spent much time on it! Believe me, they do. Coach also stressed: Don't turn the ball over! (Poyser had a couple as did Chef) There is no defense for a TO! That is what Chef must overcome if he wants minutes. Free throws! We were the best free throw team in the league last year! So, get to the line and let's shoot some! There was a small crowd there. But, I will say, you do have to be hardcore to go watch a practice! There were not many seats left for sale though, the fewest I have seen ....ever. Bonnies did have a recruit in. He looked to be about 6'4". And, lastly, Coach....."coaches". He doesn't miss a thing. Totally involved. In charge. No detail too small.

DON'T be shocked if Matt Mobley takes the country by storm this year! That's my first impression of the first practice, Jaylen gets all the hype and sometimes "Robin" wants to get some shine too!!! Watch out country, he had better all around numbers last year as well
