Unlikely scenario but what if a player in the transfer portal wants to return to his former team? Would coach welcome him back? Would team want him back?
Seems to me that there are a ton of players in the transfer portal going no where. Why do this? You very likely could be terminating your aspirations of being a Division 1 player.

Bjif - I think it’s because18-20 year olds often make rash decisions without understanding the full impact of those decisions and what might go wrong If their opinions of themselves are overinflated. And I think it is the rare D1 coach that will welcome anyone leaving to look for a better situation back into the team. I am not aware of anyone ever doing so.

A few basketball and many football players recently have withdrawn from the transfer portal and do return to their current schools. Two recent hoopers are Justin Turner from Bowling Green, one of the top players in the MAC, and a big kid from Wichita State (can’t recall his name). Some coaches do welcome back players. Some have taken a harder stance and just won’t.

Did Carpenter land? Or has there been news of potential schools interested?
Would we welcome him back?

Thanks guys. He was the reason I wrote the post. We should have red shirted him if possible and never lost him in the first place. He clearly should have seen minutes when Bobby started to unravel.

Gueye is a UAB transfer, 6'10, skinny, shot blocker type. Originally from Senegal but played at Aspire Academy in Kentucky. He got a lot of minutes at UAB so he would be a veteran addition. Not a big scorer but maybe he sits out a year and develops that part of his game

He apparently has/will get his degree and will be a grad transfer.

He apparently has/will get his degree and will be a grad transfer. You are right. Thank you. I didn't realize he was at UAB for 3 years already

Not a big scorer but maybe he sits out a year and develops that part of his game He averaged .5 bpg last season, not much of a shotblocker. He can rebound some and has a respectable shot out to three point range. Wouldn't be a back pick-up for a grad year guy, but not a difference maker.
