You’d think he would write about something a little more relevant though, than a 2 part series on a coach who was briefly here 35 years ago (EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the first of a two-part piece about former St. Bonaventure basketball coach Jim O’Brien. It was written three years ago for a booklet celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Bonnies’ appearance in the 1970 NCAA Final Four. However, due to an unexpected response from advertisers, there was no room for this story in that publication and was never printed.) Gotcha. thanks Chuck

Or the new assistant coach and his big additions? Or the new women’s coach and his plans? Odd story choice Like most members of the 'wagon, it seems Chuck also cannot write anything that didn't exist 35+ years ago.

Every astute reader of the Bandwagon is well aware of Chuck's remarkable contributions informing Bona fans on new recruits and providing a deep dive into post game and pre game analysis.

I was talking with retired Cardinal Hayes Coach Tommy Murray (NYS HOF) today at his Bronx house in Woodlawm (Little Ireland). He gets a call from Jim O'Brien and after a while hands the phone to me. He was unaware of the Olean Times Herald article. I told him I would send it to his email. Sounded strong voiced and upbeat saying he loved his 4 years at Bona. Would have loved to talk longer but had to pick up my grand kids.
Tommy Murray used to bring his son up to work O'Brien's summer camp and stay at his house. They keep in close contact.

There’s no denying Matt Gantt’s ability to elevate. However, in his one season of freshman ball (with Lanier and Kalbaugh if memory serves me correctly) Willie Mangham displayed some serious levitational skills. How many people have you ever seen shooting the jumper DOWN on the basket? He had serious hops. He’d have been a great addition to the team had he played all four years for the Brown and White.

Obrien
O'Brien was hired as Ohio State head coach on April 7, 1997, after the firing of previous coach Randy Ayers. O'Brien guided the Buckeye program to the 1999 Final Four, 2000 and 2002 Big Ten regular-season co-championships, the 2002 Big Ten tournament Championship, four 20-win seasons and a school-record four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances (1999–2002). Ohio State later had to vacate all wins from 1999 to 2002, remove all references to team accomplishments for those years, and pay back all tournament money due to rules violations during O'Brien's tenure. On June 8, 2004, then-Ohio State athletic director Andy Geiger fired O'Brien for alleged NCAA rules violations. The Ohio Court of Claims determined that Ohio State breached its contract with O'Brien by terminating him and awarded him $2.4 million. However, O'Brien was initially given an NCAA "show-cause" order effectively banning him from coaching from 2006 to 2008, and only returned to coaching in 2011
. OB ranks right up there with calipari, Pitino, huggins when it comes to paying kids
