To see how quickly any player on the current roster, with any sort of vertical jump, can be compared to Matt Gantt. MATT could sky but I always thought HOWIE HARRISON was more breathtaking. I think Howie actually won a jump ball tip from Bill Walton after a tie up [they still did jump balls in those days] in the 1973 matchup, during which we had a brief lead. Then Mr. Wooden called a time-out, put the paddles to the Bruin's backside and they went on a tear. Testing my memory from 50 years ago but I believe a 111-59 final or somewhere close to that

derhut posted, "OB ranks right up there with calipari, Pitino, huggins when it comes to paying kids."
I don't know amounts provided by these 3 coaches nor details surrounding any alleged illegal payments.
I do know that O'Brien admitted to his AD Geiger that he loaned $6,000 to Serbian player Aleksanelar Radovevic who had just lost his father and his mom was financially struggling with 3 younger children.

The one brief flash of brilliance I saw from BMoore was during ECAC Game of the Week vs. Niagara 1976...Marv Albert/Bucky Waters on the call. He was rebounding, running the fast break & hitting some mid-range jumpers With the game on the line Moore iced it with two key free throws. After he netted the first, he did a little Icky Shuffle [Long before Mr Woods made it famous] re-focused and nailed the 2nd one. Thought it would mark an emergence for him [much like when JR Bremer lit up Dayton his sophomore year] but Billy slipped back into his cave.

as a youngster i was fortunate enough to attend the st francis pa summer hoops camp....ex sbu pete lonergan was the coach down in loretto....very close to moore's hometown of altoona...so moore was a camp counselor..at night billy moore, the late pat [ nba] cummings, kevin [ nba ] porter and pittsburgh hs hoops star clarence hopson would run 2 on 2 full court games...moore owned the court as he could run step for step with porter who had speed to burn. and moore could muscle up cummings who at 6'9" and 225lbs was no slouch

Billy Moore was one of my best friends at Bona.. Didn’t he transfer? He was three years behind me.

IMO, Moore’s superior athleticism worked to his ultimate downfall. In High School and presumedly on the playgrounds of Altoona and beyond, he was so superior in athleticism he was able to dominate opponents and never had to develop the basketball nuances (like shooting when more then a couple of feet from the rim) that were needed when faced with someone who could match him physically (e.g., the Canisius kid - Fogle?), which in turn played with his head. He just hadn’t developed the skills he suddenly needed in D1, and he just couldn’t match the success he’d had in HS or satisfy the expectations he came in with, which was that he was the best recruit since Lanier - a TON of expectations. Imagine if he’d come to Bonas with a decent mid-range jumper.
