Created this thread, because I think a lot of good articles are being missed from the Olean Times Herald. I also did not know what thread to put JP's interesting article about Quadir Habeeb. -- Quadir was a 6'10" center on Bona's 2001 NIT team. He was a backup center to PVP. -- Despite playing just 1 year with Bona, he remains a big fan of the Bonnies. -- At Bona he would entertain students with his rapping. They encouraged him to pursue this as a career. After college he pursued a career in rapping. -- His first big break was his song "Nickname" was used on the video game Grand Theft Auto 1V. -- He now has a successful career in rapping having worked with Nike, Ruff Ryders Entertainment, DMX and others. -- His professional name is Quadir Lateef. Most of JP Butler's articles make it online, but so far this one is not on OTH website. Here are a couple of his videos. Not being a fan of rap music, I had a difficult time deciding which songs were better. Nickname from Grand Theft Auto 1V www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUmSsMfOHYcMusic video with Quadir performing www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKphy_Yd35g

Marv Hubbard of Randolph was on the Oakland Raiders' championship team in Super Bowl XI. I assume his prep school must have the Golden Football.

JP Butler has an article "Excitement never ceases among Bona hoops fans." In the article he mentions Kareem Reid is currently visiting Bona. He shared: -- Kareem is a 6'9" forward. -- 247 Sports 4 star recruit. -- Borderline top 100 player (113 overall). -- Number 3 prospect from Connecticut. -- UConn and West Virginia are high majors who have offered Kareem. Currently article is not online, but article about Quadir Habeeb is now online. www.oleantimesherald.com/sports/st_bonaventure/

With Neil Shoemaker's passing, I'll share about his dad building an amusement park in Olean up on Mount Hermann. Following is a sentence about Bona. “Anyone who has traveled through Olean after dark this summer will remember the bright lights of ‘Cloud 9’ up on the hill south of the city,” Daley wrote. “The electric sign name ‘Cloud’ was added this year to the numeral 9, which has stood on the hill for several years." “During the basketball season at St. Bonaventure University, Mr. Shoemaker has a large letter ‘B’ lighted on the hill." www.oleantimesherald.com/news/state-union-area-youngsters-once-stood-on-cloud/article_02e9498c-8477-11e6-b880-673a4f87f351.html

Actually - if you enter the main corridor to the RC along the north side of the arena - there is a display case which holds a photo of the Babe, and possibly Father Tom Plassman, Bonas President, standing on the landing of De La Roche Hall, looking out over the crowd assembled in the area between then Alumni Hall and the Friedsam Memorial Library. Also in that case are photos of Giants Manager John McGraw and Orioles Manage Hugh Jennings, both Bona grads, outstanding MLB players and managers and Baseball Hall of Fame members. The OTH may have had only a limited article on this event, but the BV covered it extensively. Yes the BV has been in existence that long - long may it live. Much to be proud of here.

Difficult be sure .....Bonas was plagued by some major fires in 1930 and earlier which destroyed a good deal of university records - tragically......

Attached is JP's article "Former Bonnie Mungar reflects on life in basketball." Highlights from article. -- Selected in the fourth round of the NBA Draft, at No. 82 overall, by the then-Washington Bullets. -- Mungar was the 32nd Bona player to be drafted, and held the distinction of being the latest Bona draft choice until Nicholson was picked by the Orlando Magic, at No. 19 overall, 26 years later. -- His most vivid memory from that time, however, involves a second-round selection from Southeastern Oklahoma State: Dennis Rodman. “Dennis came out of nowhere,” Mungar recalled. “He’s playing at an NAIA school and we show up at the Portsmouth (Virginia) Invitational pre-draft camp, and guess who’s on my team? Dennis Rodman. That was before the tattoos and piercings; that was when he was a very quiet, introverted guy.” -- His recollection of the knockout blow that left some fans inside the Reilly Center mouths agape, and sent many more into a frenzy. His memory of the time he punched out Penn State’s Carl Chrabascz. www.oleantimesherald.com/olean/former-bonnie-mungar-reflects-on-life-in-basketball/article_1eb6a676-b8f7-5755-9fb5-1b3889b00059.html
