Some Barry Mungar facts. -- Currently 22nd among Bonas all time leading scorers. -- Since the NIT players, there have been just 3 players drafted in the NBA. Mark Jones and Barry both selected as the 82nd pick and Andrew 19th. -- Barry is 1 of just 11 Bona players to be named to the 1st team of Eastern 8/A-10. In 39 years the following players to make All Conference 1st team; Belcher, Mark Jones, Mungar, Harry Moore, Vanterpool, Winn, JR, Marques, Andrew, Mobley and Jay. Barry is my pick as the player who has improved the most from his freshman to senior year. -- First year Barry played in just 2 games and scored 0 points. He was red shirted for development. For his 1st year, I do not remember much about Barry except he was really skinny and lacked muscles. He did not look like a D-1 player. Rumor at the time was Barry was discovered by the Houghton basketball coach, who spoke with Satalin about Barry. Barry was all set to play for Houghton, until Satalin was talked in to giving him a scholarship. Local Cuba player Andy Moore outscored Barry. As a freshman Andy played in 26 games and averaged 6.2 ppg. -- Freshman year Barry showed up significantly bigger with more muscles. This was the start of a repeating pattern of Barry gaining more strength in each proceeding year. Despite playing in 27 of 30 games, Barry finished 8th in scoring with 4.3 ppg. Andy Moore would average 4.6 ppg this season. -- As a senior Barry would lead the Bonnies averaging 17.1 ppg and 8.0 rpg. As mentioned above he would make All conference becoming the 3rd Bonnie to make 1st team Eastern 8. d2o2figo6ddd0g.cloudfront.net/n/x/phj33tkv7pos0r/MBBrecordbook.pdf www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/barry-mungar-1.html basketball.realgm.com/ncaa/conferences/Atlantic-10-Conference/10/St-Bonaventure/26/nba-draft

We had some good times that year. Barry was not a troublemaker, but definitely had an edge and pushed the limits. I agree his improvement year to year was great, a true diamond in the rough.

Franklinville’s Miss USA now bowling reporter
By CHUCK POLLOCK Olean Times Herald Jun 26, 2019
For nearly two years her story captivated the Southern Tier.
Kim Pressler, the pride of Franklinville, became a household name when she won the Miss New York Teen USA title in 1994.
But it was four years later that Pressler became a national celebrity and local icon, first winning the Miss New York contest in 1998, then following it up with the ‘99 Miss USA title, the fourth woman from this state to claim both those honors.
The Times Herald proudly used barrels of ink reporting her story, so that every reader came to know it.
Born in Las Vegas, where her father Stan, now a retired Air Force staff sergeant, was then stationed, Kim and her mother Michelle lived a typical military existence with stops in California and Germany. But eventually, the family settled in Franklinville where Kim graduated from Ten Broeck Academy.
After a year at Clarion University majoring in speech communications and drama, she then took a job with the Department of Energy working at the West Valley nuclear demonstration site.
But that position was quickly superseded by her beauty pageant success. And Kim’s most significant contribution during her Miss USA reign was helping raise millions of dollars for breast and ovarian cancer research.
And though she has moved on to a career in television, Pressler is still involved in the pageant world, having hosted the Miss Massachusetts USA and Miss Massachusetts Teen USA competitions. She also regularly judges Miss Teen and Miss USA state pageants.
AFTER HER Miss USA reign ended she has worked as both a TV sports reporter and a television host. She did three shows for MTV — “Senseless Acts of Videos,” “Fast and Famous,” and “Becoming” — and one for NBC, “Adrenaline X.”
But it’s in sports broadcasting where she’s achieved her greatest visibility.
Pressler started her career as a sideline reporter for ESPN’s (World Power Sports Association) ATV Championships, SPEED’s WPSA Snowcross Championships and the Red Bull X Fighters.
She also hosted the freestyle motocross competition and covered the Summer and Winter X Games live. In addition, Pressler hosted the Fitness National Championships for Fox College Sports and reported on the TORC Truck Racing series for ABC and ESPN.
Now 42 with a 10-year-old daughter, Pressler has been a “laneside reporter,” first for ESPN and now Fox and FS1, covering the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA).
And though she’s been at it for a decade, it was former TH sports writer Pete Dougherty, now with the Albany Times Union and having bowling among his beats, who called it to our attention.
He had left the area years before Pressler’s beauty pageant success, but while reading her ESPN profile, was amazed that she listed Franklinville as her hometown.
Her mom and dad have now moved to Goffstown, New Hampshire, just west of Manchester.
And that’s just fine with Kim who, this year, is covering the newly-created PBA playoffs, all of which are contested in Portland, Maine — four telecasts each in April and May, two in June and four in three days in July.
Indeed, she posted on Instagram: “Another perk to working in Maine? My dad and step mom come to visit every time.”
Four telecasts remain on this year’s Fox/FS1 schedule — the PBA League quarterfinals, semifinals and finals — July 16-18 at Portland.
And Pressler’s parents, barely two hours away, will undoubtedly be there.

Attached is JP's article "Gillispie on rise of Bona’s English: ‘It’s who he is." A few quotes from about Jaren English from Gillispie (Ranger's head coach). -- JP asks What’s his biggest strength offensively? It almost doesn’t matter, Gillispie said — he does just about everything well. More important than his skillset are his off-the-charts intangibles. -- “His best strength is he’s a winner” -- “He’s got skills, he’s got talent, but he’s got more intangibles than anything, and that’s one of the reasons I really enjoyed coaching him.” -- Gillispie described English as “probably the most improved player I’ve ever had from the start of a season to the end.” -- “He’s a very, very determined player, a very determined student, a very determined individual. He plays like he has a chip on his shoulder all the time. He doesn’t take anything for granted.” -- "I think Jaren’s best days are ahead of him. I think he’ll definitely be really good this year, but he has a chance to be really great his last two years.” www.oleantimesherald.com/olean/gillispie-on-rise-of-bona-s-english-it-s-who/article_107b2950-5634-5ec3-9684-8825c478abaa.html

Gillispie's comment of Jaren “probably the most improved player I’ve ever had from the start of a season to the end” is supported by the following. Jaren's first 10 games at Ranger, averaged 8.0 ppg. Last 10 games Jaren averaged 13.2 ppg. Gillispie kept talking about Jaren's intangibles. How about the following for intangibles. Remember following was accomplished on a team that went 31-4 and reached the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I championship game. -- Jaren's 13.1 ppg in conference game leads his team. -- His 165 rebounds leads the team. -- His 66 assists is 2nd on the team. -- Among starters his 48.9% FG shooting is 2nd on the team. -- Among starters his 43.3% 3 point shooting is 2nd (only 3 tenths lower than the leader). He leads his team in conference 3 point shooting at 40%. -- He is even 2nd in block shots with 12. Here is another impressive fact. -- Jaren is Schmidt's only recruit to make Rivals JUCO Top 100 list as a freshman. He was ranked at 85 on the list. If he returned for his sophomore year I'm sure he would have been ranked a lot higher, especially with extreme majority of the players on the list are sophomores. njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2018-19/div1/teams/rangercollege?sort=ptspg&tmpl=teaminfo-network-monospace-template

Attached is JP's article "National attention for Bona sophomores, other notes." Following are a a couple highlights from article. -- JP sates "The St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team’s then-freshmen trio accounted for nearly 70 percent of its team’s scoring in Atlantic 10 Tournament wins over George Mason (47-of-68 points) and Rhode Island (46-of-68 points)." And in the weeks and months after that showing, the national media has begun to take notice of what any avid Bona follower had come to see: Lofton, Dominick Welch and Osun Osunniyi have arrived. -- "In April, Lofton was named one of Andy Katz’s 11 “rising stars” for the 2019-20 season." -- "In June, Osunniyi made Katz’s preseason Top 25 list, at No. 21, for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar award, given annually to the nation’s top center. A month later, he was one of CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein’s “5 Breakout A-10 Players” for this season." -- "Yes, Bona has a strong foundation in the former Putnam Science Academy teammates, both of whom made the A-10’s All-Rookie team last year. That’s to say nothing of Welch, who averaged 10 points, six rebounds and over two 3-pointers over the final six weeks of the season." -- "It isn’t unanimous, but the Bonnies are so far being viewed as a Top-5 A-10 team again this season. In the earliest preseason prognostications yet, Schmidt’s team was pegged for fifth in Rothstein’s summer outlook and either fourth or fifth by a handful of Atlantic 10 bloggers. In CBS’ “way too early” power rankings for 2019-20, Bona sits at No. 6." www.oleantimesherald.com/olean/national-attention-for-bona-sophomores-other-notes/article_8f1801cd-478c-5c29-afe6-dd4b433f2b35.html

Attached is JP's article "Rigorous summer routine has Ikpeze set on strong finish." Following are a couple highlights from article. -- "The 6-foot-10 center has made Bona an almost-permanent home this summer, choosing to remain tunnel-visioned in his offseason training regimen over even the slightest of distractions that going home might represent. He’s approached these June and July months with such ferocity, that it’s become difficult not to notice. Ikpeze was the subject of a recent Spectrum News feature centered specifically on his daily summer routine." 8-8:30 a.m.: running. 8:30-10:30.: lifting. 10:30-11: break/treatment. 11 a.m.: 500 shots. Afternoon: More shots. Evening: Even more shots. -- Heading into his senior year, Ikpeze will be the first one to tell you: He still has plenty to validate in his Division I career. “One hundred percent,” he said. “I definitely believe this season coming up that I have a lot to prove to myself and to people, that I can compete consistently at a high level and be on the court (for long stretches) and really just be a contributor to my team winning games. “I’ve made big strides, and I’ve got a lot of summer left, too.” www.oleantimesherald.com/olean/rigorous-summer-routine-has-ikpeze-set-on-strong-finish/article_979eecb0-9a20-5c1d-9438-04dc159636a5.html
