Attached is JP's article "Adjusting to a new reality in recruiting." Following is from article. -- AS PART of the NCAA’s new recruiting rules in this time of social isolation, coaches are not permitted to have face-to-face contact with a prospect through April 15 (and that deadline is likely to be extended to May 31). They can communicate with a recruit only through phone calls, texts and video. -- Additionally, players aren’t allowed to sign a National Letter of Intent during that same time period, though they can verbally commit to their school of choice. -- The Bonnies currently have one signing for next season — prep forward Quintin Metcalf — and three scholarships still available. -- In any other year, he or an assistant would conduct either a home or high school visit, and if everything went well for both sides, he’d bring that player in for an official on-campus visit. In lieu of an in-person meeting, the Bona staff has taken to using Zoom and FaceTime for those interactions. -- He added: “We’re in the same boat as everybody else, so it’s not like we’re at a disadvantage, it’s just that the selling of our campus and the family-type atmosphere hurts us because that’s really a big sell for us.” www.oleantimesherald.com/olean/adjusting-to-a-new-reality-in-recruiting/article_eaf4498b-d701-5778-b35b-5552da098eb4.html

Chuck...Thanks for the article. Coaching staffs that have experience and comfort level using ZOOM as a tool will enjoy an advantage as they communicate with recruits and their families in their living rooms. Skillfully prepared videos of campuses and facilities are being used by all schools to attract their recruits. Can never take the place of a campus visit which places greater importance on the prepared visual.
Face to face interaction could be a LONG way off. Best of luck to staff as they grapple with a new challenge.

Interesting article from Chuck Pollock "Some numbers and odds for Bonnies, Bills." Following 3 are from article. - This season St. Bonaventure sold 2,621 season tickets, an increase of 136 seats from last year and almost 300 more than the 2017-18 season. - Sophomore guard Kyle Lofton was named First-Team All-Conference, the fifth straight season with at least one Bona player named to that unit with Courtney Stockard honored in 2018-19 and Jaylen Adams the three previous years. - The Bonnies now have had 18 total First-Team All-A-10 selections (including players with multiple honors) which ranks third all-time among current conference members. Adams was named those three times, Andrew Nicholson, Harry Moore and Earl Belcher twice each and Lofton, Stockard, Matt Mobley, Marques Green, J.R. Bremer, Tim Winn, David Vanterpool, Barry Mungar and Mark Jones once apiece. www.oleantimesherald.com/sports/basketball/some-numbers-and-odds-for-bonnies-bills/article_16135460-d898-5051-8763-e89bee70d8a5.html

Attached is JP's article "Bona has had juco success under Schmidt." Following is from article. In that time, he’s had more hits than swings and misses, by roughly a 60/40 margin in our view. Eighteen of those players are listed here, falling into one of four categories: Home runs, solid additions, so-so’s and strikeouts. Home runs: Jonathan Hall, Posley, Stockard, Jaren English. Solid additions: Ogo Adegboye, Eric Mosley, Chris Johnson, Charlon Kloof, Andell Cumberbatch, Andoh. So-so’s: D’Lancy Carter, Chris Dees, Ray Blackburn. Strikeouts: Lewis Leonard, Iakeem Alston, Ndene Gueye, Melkisedek Moreaux, Matt Johnson. AND THAT brings us back to this spring. As jucos, Creal and Shaw might not be considered “splashes” to most Bona fans. There’s enough evidence, however, to suggest that these guys — at least one — might end up somewhere between a complementary piece and a strong A-10 starter. As with any recruit, time will tell which category they ultimately fall into. www.oleantimesherald.com/olean/bona-has-had-juco-success-under-schmidt/article_07491b8e-cddf-515b-a0b3-b9555501af12.html---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is difficult for Creal and Shaw to become home runs as there are quality established starters at their positions. I still believe they can become solid additions even if they do not start. Personally I would move Andoh down a spot and replacing his spot with D'Lancy. -- D'Lancy started 28 games his first season compared to 7 for Andoh in his only season. -- Andoh only averaged 1.2 ppg more than D'Lancy during his first season. -- Andoh struggled with defense, while D'Lancy was a good man defender in the post. -- D'Lancy was also a good rebounder finishing 2nd to Michael Lee in rebounds. -- D'Lancy's biggest downfall was the arrival of Andrew Nicholson. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/dlancy-carter-1.htmlwww.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/st-bonaventure/2017.html

Chuck- Kloof is a “home run” in my opinion. The starting PG for the conference champions. And many times he was the catalyst with his defense

First....Andoh wasn't a JUCO transfer so you can bump up and down whoever you want into "his" spot......
Secondly, go back and watch a number of games in that '16-'17 season...Andoh was an "X" factor in a lot of those games...he made the team better...all while playing with one of the shortest leashes of all time in the Schmidt era. Whether you think it's justifiable or not will depend on how you felt about his time as a Bonnie...bottom line is that the kid could play and took on his role with the Bonnies without sulking. He did his job on that team and did it well, in my mind.
Kloof was no doubt a "round-tripper" and believe it's a bit too early to put Jaren in that category...solid sample size from this past season says he will get there, but believe it's a bit premature at this point - I guess an "in-complete" if you would.

David Andoh played JUCO basketball at Merritt College, which plays in the California Community College Athletic Association, for the 2013-14 season. David Andoh is a perfect example why watching players pickup games can be misleading. I remember being impressed with his offense. He was a 6'7" PF who could handle the ball, score in the post and shoot from 3s. Unfortunately other than Idris, very little defense is played in these pickup games. BonaWolf referred to Schmidt as having a short leash with David. I think it was because of his defense. I agree with Tasty, it is very tempting to move Kloof to home run, especially considering his great man defense. Fair or not, all of JP's Home Run players scored double digit points every season as a Bonnie. Like Kloof all the players in the Solid Additions, had just 1 double digit scoring season. Andoh is the one exception, he scored 7.6 ppg in his only season as a Bonnie. gobonnies.sbu.edu/sports/m-baskbl/2016-17/bios/andoh_david_4w1h

Attached is JP's article "Giving Lofton a proper sophomore send-off." From article -- BONA COACH Mark Schmidt was recently asked about his top player, who, this season, led the nation in minutes played (38.4) while finishing 20th in assists (6.0). -- The 13th-year coach made it clear: Bona has had a long line of tremendous point guards over the years, a group that includes All-Time Team selections Tim Winn, Marques Green and Jaylen Adams. Lofton, in his opinion, is on his way to joining that club … if he’s not already there. -- Kyle has two more years to expand on a career in which he’s already earned an All-Rookie Team nod and become the 13th player in program history to make the A-10’s First Team. -- AT HIS current pace, Lofton, who’s already tallied 928 points, would finish sixth in Bona annals in scoring (1,856 points) — second among guards behind Adams. -- If he can come close to reproducing his 186 assists from this year over the next two, he’d surpass Green (657 assists) as the all-time leader in that category. -- Schmidt noted “we come back, end of August, and we have our team meeting,” he said. “We vote for captains, and I don’t have any say in it. He’s a freshman and he’s been on campus for like five days, and he was voted captain … and there were juniors and seniors that didn’t get any votes. I think he got nine votes, and that’s unheard of as a freshman. But that just tells you his leadership skills and how much those guys on this team respect him. They saw it right away — his competitiveness, his unselfishness.” www.oleantimesherald.com/olean/giving-lofton-a-proper-sophomore-send-off/article_643d39a9-728a-554b-8645-434197bbb5a0.html
