At the risk of disappointing some folks seeing a new post on the recruiting thread, this ain't it. I just thought it would be fun to take a look at how things were when we started this thread back in January of 2020. That said, I ran out of steam after 10 pages, it's a good thing the staff did not.
Brett Rumpel, 6-4 sg, hs Binghamton, NY Markus IIver, 6-6 sf, from Estonia, prepping in va, signed with Wisconsin Jacori Owens, 6-9 prepping at Combine Academy Kordell Charles, 6-7 Canada, we had offered earlier in the previous year Connors Williams, 7-0, 300 Victor, NY, not offered but got in he discussion Bryce Harris, 6-6 sg, Putnam Science Academy, NYC and NC Isaiah Folkes, 6-3 pg, Putnam, Va Shermani Fuller, 6-9, NYC hs, signed with Fordham Mike Gray, 6-1, pg, Blue Ridge Va, played against Bona hopeful Anouar Mellouk Mohammed Sanogo, 6-9, Putnam, signed with FIU Rayquan Taylor, 6-9, Alabama hs, recommitted N Alabama Ethan Okuwusa, 6-3 pg Berkshire Academy Elijah Hutchison-Everet, 6-10, 233 Putnam, de-commit from Penn State
to provide a time sequence, we are up to Dec 2020

March, 2020
Mo Nije, c, 6-9, 230, hs Cenerville, Ohio, prepping In Fla
Again, we didn't offer everybody on the list, but one way or another they managed to make their way into the conversation. When you look at where we are now, that's a lot os hoe leather for our coaching staff. We just have to pull our info from unfurled or twitter or verbal commits. So on May 9, 2021 a special thanks to our staff for all that you've done and because this is a never ending task, all you continue to do. We truly do appreciate all the work. Go Bonnies

Getting back to Mellouk, looking at the list of schools that have offered him, if he selects one of the other schools, so be it. They are good schools but basketball-wise, they are at a significantly lower level. If that’s all he thinks of himself, then he probably would quickly follow guys leaving Bonas once they get a good look at the competition here. Bonas is the only place offering him a high level of play. If that sounds elitist, that’s just where we are now. That having been said, after watching his highlight vids, I really want this kid. The fact they show him close to touching the top of the backboard and essentially kissing the rim is impressive. Plus that he states in one of the vids that he loves dunking and defense, particularly blocking shots, makes him a solid prospect and target. With his abilities, I can’t believe he’ll select one of his other options. I just hope some P6 program doesn’t come in late and sweep him away. I thought Ridgnal was a freak, but so is this kid, only taller - at 6’8” and with long arms. Man, the Netherlands are really producing some potentially great hoopsters. Assuming there’s more to come, we might want to set up a branch campus there, or add Kloof and PVP as assistants.

No news, just giving myself a Anouar Mellouk pep talk. Patrick O'Brien, who covers prep hoops and has written a long piece on Anouar, just had this blurb, that got me going again.....
2021 6’9 Anouar Mellouk
Mellouk is a very intriguing prospect that already holds multiple offers. He is one that can not only get and finish at the rim but also has a smooth shot from multiple levels. He is an agile player that can play multiple positions. Mellouk is just a freak athlete on the court who has a 7’2 wingspan that can help block shots or get on the boards, but also tremendous in spreading the floor. Really good at the rim and can dunk everything.
Keep the faith. Go Bonnies

I’m ready to give a big bump to the Anouar Mellouk to Bona scale. — Ceharv “looking at the list of schools that have offered him, Bonas is the only place offering him a high level of play.” — Both are from Netherlands. — PVP was a great player from Netherlands. — WGT mentions Charlon Kloof is from Netherlands. I’m sure Anouar knows of him. Charlon has played for Netherlands national team for the years of 2009, 2010, 2015, 2017 and 2019. — Joryam and Anoaur are friends on Twitter. — Poster nairbssur shared video of Joryam and Anouar playing together. Is this the clincher? I think we can assume Joryam and Anouar know each other very well. They both have the same hometown of Almere, Netherlands. www.verbalcommits.com/players/anouar-melloukwww.verbalcommits.com/players/joryam-saizonou

The silence is deafening. There is little to know out there. The true beauty of this kid is that he has not reached his ultimate potential. I know this is a fluff piece but at least is is "something". The A10 will never see this kid coming! Go Bonnies!

This waiting is driving me crazy. Its like a little kid on Christmas waiting to open presents.I wish Anouar would at least say when he was going to make his decision so I wouldn't have to keep checking this board or Twitter 6-7 times a day. If he likes cold weather Bonas should be the choice.

Hoping the silence on no new offers is a good sign that AM will be Bona bound.

Anouar Mellouk was offered by University of Maine today.
Maine played only 1 month last season due to covid. Season Started mid Dec and ended on Jan 17th with a 2-7 record. Played only 1 home game. They struggled to score 53 ppg and had a -12 ppg margin.
They have added 4 players to date. A 7'1" Nigerian grad transfer from Louisiana and a 6'8" Fwd who had 19.5 ppg last year.
Their best rebounder INGO (8.6 rebs) is a red shirt soph.
ANOUAR and family are carefully selecting the best school for him. If he only knew the fantastic impact being a Bonnie will make in his life. Fellow countrymen PVP and CHARLON could tell him all about it.
Bona Nation is ready to embrace him from day 1.

There is no question that Anouar Mellouk is a gifted athlete, and a young star in the making. What basketball people across the country know is that Coach Schmidt and his staff offer players their best chance to develop their potential, more so than any other program in the country. Year in and year out guys come to our program, because they know that if they come in dedicated to being the best they can be, they are going to come out of Bonaventure ready to play at the next level. Look no further than recent gradates, Dion Wright, Denzel Gregg,LaDamien Griffin and Courtney Stockard, not 4 or 5 star recruits, but who would between them, go on to earn, most improved player, best sixth man and A10 All conference honors. And as recent as yesterday, Matt Mobley, a guy that came to Boanventrue and took the place by storm. He has played his way up the ranks in Europe and is getting serious consideration from top clubs like Barcelona. Another guy, Andrew Nicholson, a young Canadian, who would become an All American and lead the Bonnies to the NCAA tournament in 2012, would become the 19th pick in the NBA draft and play with the Orlando Magic.
Sports Illustrated, a nationally recognized publication has on several occasions singled out Coach Schmidt and Bonaventure as being one of the best programs in the country in developing young papers.
From a parent's point of view, I would like to add this. Bonaventure will offer one of the best student focused educations you will find. It's a small school with an enormous heart, where you will find faculty who really do want to try and make a difference in the lives of the students they teach. I have worked in higher education as an academic adviser for the past 35 years at colleges and universities across the country and the education that is frequently delivered is more transactional, they want to push you through the system, than transformative, learning that will last you a life time, which is what you'll find at Bonaventure.
Lastly as noted throughout the pages on this site, Anouar, you will not find a group of people more passionate about their team. Quite simply, if you love the game, and I know from one of your interviews, you talked about how if you wanted something badly, that was it for you, then this is a marriage. A power house team, and that means every day at practice you're going up against the best. A top 25 team, that knows to the man, that just getting back to the NCAA tournament will not be enough. We truly believe that adding your talent to our group, we will enable us to take the next step.
