Disappointed, even though it did not feel like it was going to happen.
Heck, I just got used to spelling Ridgnal right.
The staff put a lot of time and energy into Dalen's recruitment.
To me what we've learned over the last month and a half is that just when it seems like it not going our way, Jackie Johnson signs with Duquesne. The staff just got back on that horse and found and signed some great players. I have no doubt, folks I'm the head of the doubting Thomas fan club, that the coaching staff are full speed ahead.
To Dalen Ridgnal I wish you the best, you indeed are a player.
That said, Anouar Mellouk, is a star on the rise. What if we'd signed Dalen, well heck we'd never been able to find out where Anouar would be taking us on his meteoric path. The more we learn about this young man, the more we know he's our guy.

With the current construction of the roster I think it's going to be tough to pull in anymore impact players for next year although it looks like we will have 2 ships in the pocket. We are well built and I think most of the rotation for next year is already on the roster. If we add late I'd like to see some of the 4 year development type prospects. I know it's tough to get kids to commit with no path to immediate PT but that would really round out the roster and.secure the future even more. The staff has done a great job so far let's just finish did off.

Ridgnal would have been a luxury item for sure, but he would have further strengthened the flexibility of this roster. Ridgnal, per reports, was playing center for Cowley, but seems to have the game to play on the wing. Best of luck to him at Georgia.
Lets go get Mellouk then to finish out the group.
Looking forward to the official announcements of Saizonou and Brown signing.

More Mellouk.
In the bio's that somebody dug out of Fork Union Military Academy on Anouar, he's listed at 185 his first year at FUMA, going into this year, 2021, he's listed at 210. He added 25 lbs of muscle, but doesn't seem to have lost even half a step. I watch Anouar run the court and he's not just fast for a guy 6'8", he's beating everybody down the floor. Some might say it's the competition, but look at him running on the track, he's a runner, long, powerful strides. OK, time to roll your eyes, but I remember seeing some footage of Obi Toppin when he prepped and that's who Anouar reminds me of. Obi also red shirted his first year at Dayton. With Anouar's shooting ability I don't see him red shirting. He, Duro and Shoon all have that incredible reach and Karim is no slouch. That would give us 4 mobile defenders to play the front court. Think what Coach Schmidt could do with this group in a 1-3-1 rotation, but Justin NT, out on top, one of the bigs in the middle and one down low and rotate guys. When you watch his tape, I just find it incredibly hard to believe that he has only been playing basketball for 4-5 years, talk about a quick study. Hopefully Anouar is still hearing from Joryam. I'm hoping are players reach out to Joryam as well to welcome him aboard. This Anouar Mellouk connection just feels so meant to be.

Former Utah 6'6" guard Jordan Kellier transfers to Siena--I mention because it had just been noted (true or not) that he had been offered by us.

This continues to be a unrparalleled year, obviously the pandemic, but then transfer portal, relaxed transfer eligibility and coaching changes just to mention some of the variables. What strikes me as I continue to check out the various platforms is here we are in early May when a lot of college basketball recruiting would be winding down and yet guys are popping up from all over. Just say on Twitter where Loyaola of Chicago just landed a 6'11" guy, from Sunrise Christian and Sweden, rivals is calling a top 150 guy, and there was word of a 6'9" 2021 from Calvert High in the DC area, Kevin Kanu, who is gaining interest. We don't know, the status of Mo Nice, a very talented big we had been recruiting our of the Dayton area. I would say the consensus of the BW would be we won't sign another player, that we'll keep the last scholarship open. That said, this year could be different. I know there is the playing time issue and that's very real, but there continue to be more names added to the transfer portal alone and that doesn't take into account junior college talent or hs/prep guys. In the supply and demand world, there clearly seems to be more supply. From an option standpoint some players who don't get the offer they want might go the prep route, but not every family can afford that option, so taking an offer to have your college paid for, even though you don't play much in your first year might prove to be attractive.
I was reading JP's article on Joryam's NLI signing in today's OTH, I would like it, but as a non-subscriber, I'm not sure if it would work for you. Anyway JP has got a frew more things about Joryam and some national media takes on Bona's recruiting class and also the NLI deadline is Aug 1sr, which seems late, but that's not even an end date because I know we've had guys sign some type of agreement past that deadline. I think on campus recruiting might be starting in June, although that's seemed to be another moving target. Getting players and their families in to see campus has always been one of our strongest cards to play. With hopefully players on campus for summer school, which I think starts in 10 days and all the building that will be going on, that's a great way to show off the place.
I'm hoping Mellouk is giving us some serious consideration. I really think he could be the combo forward Coach Schmidt was hoping to add.
Lastly, I should have added this to the Lacrosse thread, but the game time for the men's game today vs Monmouth was moved up an hour, it was originally set for 3pm et and I think I saw it was moved to 2pm et on ESPN+.
Hoping it's a good day to unfurl. Go Bonnies

sorry no real news here, just blow'n on the embers.
Looking over the transfer portal there are still quite a few guys, power forwards and centers that might be able to help us out with out run this year. That said, a lot of these guys have experience, but not inn our system. For that reason I believe we are better served by going after Anouar Mellouk. Anouar will certainly give us something this year. Both he and Joryam are the energy bunny in real life, you watch them, they go and go and ......well, you know. So while the temptation might be there to wait, no way in my book. To me Anouar is like Wagner from Germany a couple years back and to some extent his brother this year, nobody well maybe Coach Belien, knew what they had. Wagner hade to recruit himself from Germany by sending in a tape. IMO this young man, Anouar Mellouk, is that same type of player. If we are fortunate enough to get him in our system, he represents a great foundation piece as we move from our seniors to the following year. And, make no mistake, he like Joryam is going to find a way to get on the floor. Coach's belief that you produce in practice, you get to play, is all these guys are going to need.
Lastly, I am going all in and eating up the last scholarship. When I look at this team, the only depth issue I see when we are forced to take on bully-ball teams, West Virginia comes to mind, is Coulibaly is really our only guy who lean on the guys down low and get results IMO. Heaven forbid that Karim gets hurt or foul trouble, but it could happen. So I'm throwing caution to the wind and seeing if we can convince Amadou Traore to come. That would be the last scholarship, but if we're all in on making this our year. Amadou is a match up night mare down low. A big, 6'7" 255, who can really move for a guy his size. We'll have to deal with UB, Duquesne has literally loaded up with big bodies just adding a 6'7" 225 transfer from TCu today. They previously had brought in clones for Hughes and Weathers. St Joe's has added two bigs, La Salle on so far, we'll have to face Richmond and Golden again, St Louis will lose French, but have 3 bigs to replace him with. UMass will lose Tre Mitchell, still don't know where he is headed, I know Hofstra:), but they two have added to bigs, we've got the Mitchell twins and co at Rhody. Neptune, the new coach at Fordham looks to be making some real headway. GW added size and they were already in good shape. I haven't followed Davidson or George Mason that closely, but Davidson already had some decent size. Mason of all the teams, don't look like they have improved all that much and lastly VCU though the lost bones to the NBA, was a year ahead of schedule last year and with just about their entire team in tact, they'll be tough as well.
I'm normally all in on the waiting, but I think we'd have to be really lucky to get somebody late. And, we might, but as somebody has already said, given all we've got who is going to want to come?
If however I only get one shot, I want Anouar Mellouk.

Do we know if Mellouk has set a commitment date? From what I can see, only Montana State and SBU have offered. Are there others?

From what I can see, only Montana State and SBU have offered. Are there others? According to Verbal Commits 6 schools have offered Anouar Mellouk with Bona, Montana State, Central Michigan, Wyoming, Kansas City and Howard. I see Bonnies chances are over 50%. -- Anouar says he likes cold weather. Bona is pretty cold during the winter, but so is Central Michigan, Wyomog and Montana State. -- I'm certain Schmidt and staff has made Anoaur aware of PVP's great career. This has to be an edge for the Bonnies. -- Bona's big edge has to be having a fellow Dutch player on the team, who he played with and is a friend with on twitter. I'll bump Bona chances to well above 50%. 2fal's prediction "about 80% we land him" sounds about right.

Chuck I hope you and your percentage are correct. Why shouldn't the reigning A 10 champions have a powerful position in recruiting? It has certainly been earned by Mark, staff, and players who bettered themselves into strong winning athletes who revived a culture of success. A young athlete like Mellouk will learn to be the best he can be in both basketball and the classroom. He will be developed by one of the games best coaches and his success is waiting for him as his journey as a Bonnie begins by joining a winning program.Good luck and God's speed.
