While I think he would be a great part of our overall team next year, I do not see him coming to Bonas. Usually a 5th year transfer wants to start, or have a ton of playing time. It is hard to see him starting, and there is no "guarantee" of alot of time. He may like our school and program alot, but if it comes down to playing minutes, I think we will not be his final choice.

Memphis does not really need anyone else. Depaul needs to be careful how they are all of a sudden gaining talent. Why would you jump out of the co-vid fire in NYC to only jump into it again in South Florida. The kid has a real decision dilemma.

DADSTER, I kind of disagree with you here. I see next year's squad having alot of moving parts and I can ssee PAULICAP replacing WINSTON in the starting line-up.

Admittedly, I know very little about Paulicap. I’m not sure he starts over Justin but there would seem to be minutes to be had at the 4 given the Bobby playing time platoon is no more.

My belief that PAULICAP could start over WINSTON is based on (not real familiar with PP either) the presumption that PP is a better defensive player especially going into his final year than JUSTIN going into his second year and we all know SCHMIDT's views on defense.

I would be concerned about offensive flow with Paulicap and Osun sharing the floor. Both are limited to put backs and playing in the paint, which would clog the lane for Lofton and English to drive to the hoop.

The truth be told, I'm just happy to be talking basketball.
I did my analysis of Memphis and FIU, last night. Given my success with Louth Coubaly and several other recruits that I thought were a fit I'm not trusting my instincts. As somebody else mentioned Memphis appears to be loaded. FIU, I believe is the lure of Florida, that right now seems fleeting but it's warm weather and I'm guessing more playing time than us or Memphis. We seem to be "going to the mat" quite regularly with the Salukis, they seem to have an abundance of veteran, some juice transfers, 6'7"/6'8". DePaul started on fire last year but still ended up at the bottom of the Big East and as another poster had said they are bringing a lot of guys this fall, so that team may take some time to jell and Pauli only has the one year. I believe Schmidt is excited about a guy that he can mix and match with. I stated in an earlier post that with Pauli, Jalen Shaw and Shoon, Coach would have the option to play uptempo ball for the full 40 minutes, given the depth that we believe we have that would be a plus go getting more players more playing time. I could see Pauli being a real asset when we have to go toe to toe, with Richmond, Duquesne and St Louis. I'm concerned that the minutes he might take would slow down Justin's development, likewise Quinn's and to some extent Jalen Shaw's. I do believe however that he would be the best power forward we could put on the floor. I would love for Pauli to join this group, but also feel this group is going to be a lot of fun to watch. I have no idea what kind of relationship Chris Rose the Bona alum who is SID at Manhattan has with Pauli, likewise he's from NYC, as are a number of our guys. Aside from Memphis, if Pauli wants to get an NCAA shot, I think we are his best bet. More than likely it will be something that none of us our privy to. Go Bonnies.

So... let's break down the 5 schools on Pauly's list.
SBU - IMO he would get 20-25 minutes a night subbing for Justin and Osun. With the only two subs being a juco transfer and a freshmen...
Depaul - while they got another Elmont, NY kid (Ray Salnave) to transfer in from Monmouth, their front court appears to be set (much like SBU). They return all three front court starters (each averaged more than 27 minutes) and have 6-7 (18 mpg) and a 6-11 (10 mpg) off the bench. Who knows how much playing with Salnave means to PP?
FIU - if playing time is the only thing that matters than FIU and SIU are the two schools he should go to. Neither school returns anyone of significant at his position. FIU has 2 guys over 6-6 on their roster, one is a transfer from St. John's that averaged 2.1ppg and the other played 11 mpg last year.
SIU - has 5 players 6-7 or taller, but only 1 played (7.9 mpg) last year. 1 is a D2 grad transfer, 1 is a juco transfer, 1 is a freshmen, and 1 sat out. Neither one of these two teams I would expect to win much even with Pauly.
That leaves Memphis. They have 6 guys, 6-7 or taller, with their PF position set by 6-7 SO Jefferies (11 & 4). They signed a 6-8 juco, that sounds A LOT like Pauly, (high energy kid) that has led JUCO in blocks each of the last 2 years (5 bpg last year). They also signed an Evansville transfer that is expected to gain a waiver. (He averaged 15 & 7 last year). Add two 6-9 kids that averaged over 13 mpg and a Florida transfer that missed last year with a knee injury and their front court is loaded.
Really... only Memphis and Bonas would be expected to win next year. DePaul, with the addition of Salnave and Patrick (UPFW) will have a decent team, but I really don't know how much those additions (plus Pauly) would increase their 3-18 Big East record from last year?
Personally, I think it comes down to SBU and DePaul (though playing for Penny is probably VERY appealing!!!)... I mean, why would you leave home (Manhattan) to go to Illinois or Florida (I can at least understand FLA) to play for teams that aren't going to win. Granted both conferences are better than the MAAC...

Disappointing that Paulicap won't be a Bonnie.
Lots of unknowns to steer though.
The good news is that the Bonnies get to campus this Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully everybody arrives safe and ready to go. Then at some point, we'll actually get to hear about Creel, Shaw and Metcalf. Maybe get a report or two from folks on the scene.
Will there be a non conference slate? Will everything get shifted to second semester?
So let's root on Dion and his teammates tonight.
For those hard core people like myself, until Vladir Manuel's name shows up somewhere else, I'll keep that dream a live. As my mom always said, life is having something to look forward to. Go Bonnies

I am sorry to burst your bubble of positive thinking regarding Manuel but we really learned a difficult lesson in the past regarding a suspect transfer. If the admin folks don't like the transcript then he ain't coming. Do like the big from ALABAMA in the portal with good eligibility.

OK, so maybe Vladir Manuel is on the back burner:)
We just need another option, as noted above the young man from Alabama by way of Mississippi hs, 6'9'" 268, Javari Davis, just entered portal last week. Nate and co at Alabama had landed a boat load of talent late and that maybe the reason Javari opted out. Started 14 games for Alabama as a freshmen this past year. He would sit one and have three years of eligibility. I think the last hs player out of Mississippi we had was Carl Jackson, that turned out pretty well. Go Bonnies.

I think ROBERT PALMER was the last H.S. player from MISSISSIPPI that BONA nabbed.
