Pure speculation on my part. I saw a Tweet from a guy who promotes NE basketball players, that Casey Simmons, 6'7" 190, 3 star guard, was in the transfer portal from Northwestern, the potential connection, Simmons is from Milton, Mass and former high school teammate of Kyrell Luc. If he can shoot, maybe he on the Bonnies radar.
On closer look, Simmons is an incredible talent, top recruit in MA his senior year and a 92 national ranking. NW Coach Chris Collins called Simmons the second best signing in school history. Played limited minutes in his freshman year at NW. 2.5 mpg, and not much of a sample size to go off. I don't know he his the shooter, some folks have talked about our needing to add, but he is quite a talent, but maybe add o the log jam of young, talented players. Again, conjecture at this point, but I'm sure our staff while take a look. Looking at Simmons offers coming out of hs, he may be looking for a p5 landing spot. It will be interesting if he has a connection to Kyrell.

Sports4Illinois is reporting 6-7 BOBBY DURKIN has been offered by ST. BONAVENTURE. DURKIN is a West Glenbard grad who is considered a high level shooter who is aided by an outstanding touch and an easy shooting stroke. DURKIN is also a crafty player with a high basketball IQ, according to a Chicago Suntimes article.

Sports4Illinois is reporting 6-7 BOBBY DURKIN has been offered by ST. BONAVENTURE. I think biggest need for the Bonnies is a shooter. Reading attached article, it certainly appears Booby Durkin would fill this need. “Durkin is a high-level shooter who is aided by an outstanding touch and an easy shooting stroke. But his lights-out shooting over the past week is what finally drove Division I coaches to not just want Durkin but to need him.” According to this article (printed on July 11th) Bobby is a really late riser, “while playing with his Breakaway club team, he’s received double-digit offers in the past week alone — from all levels — and more are on the way.” Bobby signed with Army, but believing he could do better opened his recruiting up this December. Reason for opening up his recruiting was Bobby’s transfer to a bigger school “where he shined on a big platform.” His school was #1 in the state and “impressed in April during the NCAA live evaluation period. He again played with Breakaway and looked the part of a Division I player, continuing his shooting prowess while showing an even more versatile game.” Bobby is accumulating an impressive list of offers with Georgia Tech, Drake, Rice, Wyoming and Richmond. “My plan is to play out July,” said Durkin, whose Breakaway team will play in the Under Armour circuit in Chicago later this month in front of college coaches. “I will sit down with my family, look at all the options and potential fits and go from there. If the right fit is there and everything seems right with the Class of 2022, then that’s something I would take and look at seriously.” chicago.suntimes.com/2022/7/11/23203758/bobby-durkin-glenbard-west-basketball

Some notes on Bobby Durkin and his school Glenbard West — Glenbard West finished the season ranked nationally as ESPN’s 14th ranked high school team and ranked 7th by Max Preps. — Glenbard West record was 37-1. Only loss was a last second buzzer beater to Sierra Canyon, which finished ranked 18 by ESPN. — Sun Times listed Bobby as a key to Glendale’s championship season stating “The 6-6 shooter played so well in big games, including a record-breaking performance in the state semifinal game win over Bolingbrook when he drained seven three-pointers en route to a game-high 30 points. Durkin was a much-needed, space-the-floor shooter for the Hilltoppers. The crafty perimeter player was also an added ball handler for a team without a traditional point guard and brought even more size and length. - Bobby was impressive in the recent Under Armor tournament. He is listed first in the finals standout list. Below is analysis of Bobby’s game during tournament. The game looked easy for Durkin. His reads were advanced offensively, selecting precise angles when he put the ball on the ground, using his big body to maintain advantages, and pulling up when defenders gave him an inch of space. Durkin connected on multiple threes in the games, stepping into looks in transition, scoring off set plays, and doing a nice job of using hesitations and crossovers to get separation in isolation situations. He’s become a better run-and-jump athlete, but his body control is exceptional at his size when he gets into the paint. Durkin also contributed as a pick-and-roll playmaker, primary ball-handler at times, and as a volume rebounder from the guard spot. He was one of the best players in the gym and has offers and attention from Power 5 programs. Bobby Durkin, who picked up double-digit offers after last week, has been the driving force as a big-time shooter who has transformed himself into an all-around shot-maker that can break down defenders. He has emerged as a potential high-major target, adding a Georgia Tech offer among others. Bobby Buckets, Big Shot Bob, whatever other nickname you want to give him probably fit after his performance this weekend. Durkin controlled games and scored the ball about as well as any of the in-state players at the event. And it wasn’t just the point totals, it was the advanced way he got them. He got his feet set early so that any sliver of space led to three points, made pull-up jumpers after creating space with crossovers, and used his body and length to finish with extension near the rim. Add in the way he handled pressure, facilitated and dealt with schemes and it’s easy to see why Durkin is the top uncommitted senior in Illinois. He should have an eventful weekend coming up. Here is 247 Sports analysis of Bobby's game at Under Armor Tournament A former Army West Point commit in the class of 2022 who is now planning on doing a post-grad year at IMG Academy, Durkin had the gym buzzing on Thursday. He’s a highly skilled forward with a feathery shooting touch from behind the three-point line. With the size of the coaches’ section seeming to grow with each passing game so far this week, Durkin responds by raising the level of his play, capping with a 27-point performance on Thursday afternoon. Beyond his shot-making, he also just knows how to play, understands how to operate within structure, and passes effectively. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/32700261/scnext-top-25-best-boys-high-school-basketball-teamswww.maxpreps.com/news/YZ4qTpt37UaU9ZwVYqMLYA/high-school-basketball-duncanville-secures-top-spot-in-maxpreps-top-25-rankings-with-third-straight-state-title.htmillinoishoopprospects.com/2022/07/24/uaa-finals-standouts/chicago.suntimes.com/2022/3/14/22977371/glenbard-west-high-school-basketball-state-championsillinoishoopprospects.com/2022/07/17/17u-teams-that-have-stood-out/illinoishoopprospects.com/2022/04/03/illinois-standouts-from-ny2la-sports-swish-n-dish/247sports.com/Article/uaa-day-two-elmarko-jackson-jp-estrella-189823813/

Sorry, just in a writing mood. No news on Bobby Durkin, that I can find, just wishful thinking. Hoping we get a visit. I like where we are right now, but the game is also about three point shooting and you can always use more guys who can shoot it. This would be an unbelievable freshman class IMO if we got Bobby, one could not have scripted it better. Yes, history tells us we don't know how long guys will be around, but Barry Evans, Yann Farrel, Melian Martinez and Bobby Durkin would be one talented group. I know our staff is trying to make it work. August signing?

Clicking on the highlight video takes you to Dunkin’s Verbal Commits page which shows him verbally committed to Davidson. But I agree he sure looks like a very strong shooter, particularly from very deep. I just hope we don’t have to see him in an opponent’s uniform in the RC, particularly as another in Davidson’s long line of deadly outside shooters.

Looks like Niagara County Community College (NCCC). Back close to home, but only D2 in the juco ranks. So did he want or need to come back home or did he really have no offers? I didn’t see much regarding how productive (or not) he was in his year of prep school.

Just an update on Tujuan Simpkins 6’5” 185 lb, G at NW Florida State (JC) who had indicated we had shown interest. Had 44 points against Florida prep, not sure what level of comp, but had crazy numbers. Over nine games this season. Tujuan, in which he started six, he is averaging 14.2 points per game, averaging 22 minutes per game and is shooting in the mid 40s percentage wise. Northwest, is having a great season so far. 10-0. Tujuan is originally from Brooklyn, prepped in NC before enrolling at Northwest.

Just a guess, but I think Schmidt will go back to his old idea of holding on to that last ‘ship to use only if someone suddenly becomes available very late- August or September - and is so good he can’t say no. So I suspect we are done for now.

That could be a good strategy because sometimes you have to get a l’il vicius on the summer recruiting trail
