I presume the staff looks first to quality local teams for games, and we see how that’s worked. So I am pleased to see that instead of just plodding ahead with a plan that’s not working, they have expanded their efforts with a goal of adding more quality teams, even if the games are a little (or more) farther away. Teams like Middle Tennessee and Northern Iowa may not present much local interest or connections, but they are quality programs that obviously needed scheduling upgrades just as we do. Take what you can get, even if it means no or few local fans will be able to attend. ESPN 3 will make it look nearby.

Someone is always complaining....its not enough home games, not enough games near my home, weak schedule, or whatever. We have an NCAA Tournament quality team. We must put together a schedule that is "at large quality ", so if we don't win the a10 tournament, we have played a schedule that will get us an at large bid. That is the net of this schedule, win and we go to the ncaa, sure I would like a game near my CT home, so instead I go to jersey and travel up to Bona.
I will take an NCAA bid before personnel preferences....

Northern Iowa was 10-15 in the Mvc conference last year Could not really name another team in the conference w/o looking it up. I assume sophisticates can see why it is a good scheduling choice, and helpful to bona I don’t know how it compares to Cornell, northeastern or Hofstra,or Niagara....Stony Brook. Just to mention a few random....hope playing them maximizes bona’s tournament chances!

Hoping the Bonnies can get a home & home with Florida Gulf Coast University - FGCU.
South West Florida has a large number of Western New York transplants and SBU Alums.
Go Bonnies

Northern Iowa was 10-15 in the MVC last year. Could not really name another team in the conference w/o looking it up. Northern Iowa was 25-6 just 2 years ago. They’ve had a few .500 seasons lately, but are a solid program in the Missouri Valley, which is a solid mid major conference. Northern Iowa’s credentials look similar to the Bonnies. — 11 times in the last 18 years they’ve won 20+ games. — Ranked in Top 25 in following seasons 2014-15 and 2009-10. — Made NCAA 7 times in the last 18 years. Received an extremely rare at large bid for a mid major school 3 times. — Won 4 NCAA Tournament games. — Just 3 losing seasons out of last 18 years. Last season’s 10-15 record was their worse. The other 2 losing season were by just 2 games. Missouri Valley Conference has solid mid majors such as Creighton, Wichita St., Loyola (Ill.), Bradley and Drake. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/northern-iowa/www.sports-reference.com/cbb/conferences/mvc/

Had Creighton and Wichita St. as I'm sure you meant to say, Chuck. Not quite what it was, but still a solid conference. btw, how did the house look? It's seen better days.

Home and home with Northeastern starting on the road. 146 in the NET last year. Hopefully this doesn’t bite us like the last time we traveled to Northeastern. What is the benefit of doing this? It can only hurt us

It can only hurt us Better to have them on the road this year vs at home. Last time we played them I think we were still dealing with injuries. Chef started the game if I recall correctly.

He was the MVC Player of the Year in 19-20 as a sophomore.

Not exactly a quality opponent but historic Matthews Arena and a game in New England. Hopefully they will not play the game on a workday afternoon as was the case last time, so we can find parking. Northeastern is now called the "Howling Huskies".

Bona 20 - in case you haven’t been paying attention, for most of the last couple of decades, we have had a difficult time scheduling home and home series with quality programs, so there’s always a benefit to establishing and moving ahead with new relationships with quality programs and that’s what we’re doing. And that’s a benefit. Plus there’s the fact Boston is heavy with Catholic schools which could be a source of future enrollees. I applaud the move.

I apologize for being one of the few people on this board who graduated from Bonas recently, let alone this century, but I have been paying attention. I know how scheduling works, and I know that scheduling one road game at Northeastern isn’t going to help our NET or cause our enrollment to shoot up. I’m not sure playing Northeastern in a Q3 game on the road would count as playing and developing a relationship with a “quality program.” This game has likely has no basketball benefit, it will take an amazing year for them for this game to actually benefit us. And I’m sure playing Northeastern with their massive average crowd size of 1186 is going to greatly move the needle with enrollment. With those attendance numbers, I’m sure every kid from every Catholic school in Boston will be attending and will commit to Bonas on the spot. According to a study, Lafayette, Louisiana is the most Catholic city in America, using your logic, should we schedule a home and home with UL Lafayette now? You don’t schedule games because of delusions about enrollment or to please the 100 Bona fans who will show up. We need to schedule games that can help us.

What, do you think this years starting 5 is going to stay forever? Next year you will need a program to see who the starting 5 is. They will be young, and inexperienced. They will need some time to grow.

They will need some time to grow. We can get a team at the quality of Northeastern any year. It’s not hard to schedule CAA teams. You can also buy them and not start home and homes on the road with them. See Hofstra last year.
