TK got fired, call it what you will. You absolutely explain to the university community why a top leader in the school is no longer at the helm. Particularly as a result when you now have a situation where the highest paid and most visible face of the university has no permanent role to report to. Particularly when the most identifiable aspect of the university in the men’s basketball team is at a massive historical 50 year peak. Press conference, statement, anything. They have had 72 hours and nothing Informing the alumni/fan community is how professional D1 organizations act. Transparency and ownership of decisions. End of story. No. No you don't. Story has ended. The usual complacent crew is out. Not going down this path again. Thank god we have a real time schedule working this year despite the needs & opinions of true cancers like the guys who like posts by Bona84. Real organizations are transparent. You guys are stuck in the 80s and 90s or the back country with your views. I support new ideas and energy like the new admissions team. Oceanstate and Bona84 support bona lifers who hold the school back. Same story nothing new here.

Not going down this path again. Hahaha! You have an almost pathological need to have the last word on any topic. You'll be taking more laps on this than the drivers will at Indy on Monday.

Accurate res.
I love my school so much it is depressing to see true cancers take it down in this message board with their need for complacency. Just clueless posters who have way to much access to the lifers that ruin this school. Notice we only improve when we get fresh blood a la admissions, coaching & president.
I did not like TK at first with his bad decision of seats in front of students but otherwise he has been great. Simple D1 expectations in the real world outside of simpletonville to expect an explanation or statement as to why we are getting rid of him.
Tired of the same ole same ole approach and support. So happy & proud we abandoned the simpleton/complacent crew with scheduling this year.
Go Bonas.

I’m sure the University knows what they’re doing whether or not they release any details. If it was a mutual parting of ways, or if TK was fired, let him tell the story if he wants. I’m pretty sure the legal advice is being followed. Go Bonas!!

Ever heard of FERPA, 08? There are federal confidentiality statutes on the books for such circumstances. HR will not, and cannot, divulge that information. It's not just Bona policy -- it's the law!

Cute but depressing they think their opinions are relevant.

All the same, and thank you for the clarification agoo, there are confidentiality laws on the books. As long as Bona accepts federal aid, the University is bound to enforce those statutes.

Ok everyone. Let's just relax a little bit. I haven't seen anyone mention it directly, but I think we have to all agree that our small university with a minute budget is paying it's Men's Basketball Coach a very generous salary. Where are we going to find money to pay an AD what he should be paid for a Division 1 position? We aren't and I think it's quite obvious what has happened in both Watson and Kenney's situations. They want more, think the university should give it to them and are moving on when the university says "no". I can't say I blame them. Look where Watson is now that he moved on. Do you think Kenney hasn't noticed that? Let's see who our alma mater brings in and see if they can do about the same or even better job. As for Fleming, since the guy is an alum, he probably has friends associated with the university who are saying, "Let's give this guy a chance like we gave Crowley all those years before he finally got the Women's program going." I, for one, am not sure that's the best way to go, even if Crowley did finally have some success, but there is something to be said for dedication. Let's see where things go and maybe the picture will get clearer as time goes on. Either way, if a Men's Basketball Coach has achieved the success we like to see in our program and gets the kind of money we want to give him to keep it that way, I'm thinking there is more to get upset about than worrying about losing another AD.

Most of us were shocked to hear the news that TK’s contract was not being “renewed.” Those of us who faithfully follow Bonas sports over the last several years realize the positives have far out matched the negatives. We recognize that working at one of the smallest D1 schools comes with many limitations.
While we may never hear the university’s reason for not renewing TK’s contract I feel something unusual happened. On 5/26 SBU had a virtual town hall meeting to update alumni of what is going on at the university. I missed the first five minutes of the meeting but I can say the SBU officials did not bring up TK’s contract not being renewed. This would have been the perfect opportunity to inform the alumni a change is taking place. They could have made a very brief, generic statement (with advise from counsel) that would have prevented the university from getting into any legal problems. Once the university made the comment they could have followed up by saying we will not be making any other comments or answer any questions since it is personnel related issue.
I have been involved in politics and education long enough to know that it is best to get out in front of the story rather than story taking up space. I am disappointed the university is not transparent. Meanwhile, at the Town Hall meeting university officials talked about all the positives on campus, which there are many of them. The university should be promoting the good news. Of course, this was part informational and part “we need money.” They talked about the improvements to take place in the RC - new heating units and AC will be part of the RC, a new sound system will be installed. The comment was made that perhaps down the road concerts could return to the RC. Regrettably, the pool is being treated like the poor step child. No big improvements for the pool. Red seats? Well, no new red seats unless someone is will to step forward with some big bucks to replace the reds. BTW - apparently the locker rooms and weight rooms need major upgrades once again.
We won’t know, and most likely will never know, how all this came about. The BOT’s were here for graduation. The timeline to hire a new president is underway. SBU hopes to recommend a candidate for board approval at the December BOT’s meeting. The cost of the search may be upwards of $100,000. It will be difficult conducting a search for two key positions at the university.
Finally, my own opinion, TK felt he deserved to be making more than $157,000 per year. The university was not willing to give him a pay increase. While enrollment is increasing the university is still running an operating deficit - according to the Town Hall meeting. I highly doubt the Jesse Fleming situation had anything to do with TK’s contract not being renewed. TK’s plan to increase sports programming, while other schools are eliminating programs, helped the university achieve enrollment goals if not exceed them.
I hope whoever replaces Tk will have a similar vision to help make the sports programs better but, help with enrollment as well. We are heading in the right direction - or at least we were.

Frankly, the presidential search is a priori numero uno. Where can Bona find someone who had the vision and acumen of Dr. DePerro? It comes down to fit and the ability to communicate effectively with campus and alumni constituencies. From what I read, Dr. DePerro had that skill.
It's a daunting task, but one SBU must hit the target.

Hey 84 / Tom G. - Vast majority of Bandwagon posters understand and totally agree with your sentiments. TK did a fine job and he will land on his feet somewhere (and very likely be paid more). The school has no obligation to provide the details and certainly will not cave in to a forum Troll who "deserves" to know.
VIEW FROM HERE :
It never ceases to amaze me - the level of Entitlement some of these "kids" have (not all)- especially this 08 mouthpiece ... 08 - How about you zip it for once and listen to those of us with real life experience ? Those of us who actually pay the Bills in this world. Unbelievable ...
