Syracuse isn’t getting New York State money again for a new Syracuse Orange football stadium there not a state school there a private school. If New York State has no interest in ever funding a new stadium for UB a state school there not funding a football stadium for a private school. As for the new Buffalo Bills stadium they come with a large NFL payroll tax of the players Syracuse and UB has no such thing close money wise to what the Buffalo Bills offer the state in taxable revenue.
Plus the Buffalo Bills looked at UB North Campus in Amherst along with downtown Buffalo and Orchard Park for there new Buffalo Bills stadium before settling on Orchard Park again. UB North Campus in Amherst was a non starter for New York State according to the Bills representatives on Buffalo radio last week. There is no reason and nothing to gain for the Bills organization to lie about something like that. New York State isn’t interested in funding major college sports facilities hence why New York State a huge state with money isn’t a big player on the Power Five Conference level.
Which is too bad because Buffalo/Western New York could see a benefit of a Pittsburgh Steelers/Pittsburgh Panthers share a stadium with Buffalo Bills/UB Bulls new stadium with UB Bulls potentially joining the Big Ten Conference. Syracuse academics isn’t Big Ten Conference there a basketball school best served in the ACC. UB is football school first than basketball but New York State isn’t interested in stuff like that which is unfortunate with the huge television money in Power Five Conference Big Ten Conference where UB belongs football wise more than Syracuse. Why because long term UB/Buffalo boarders the very wealthy Greater Toronto area market Syracuse doesn’t. UB Michigan or UB Ohio State would print money with Buffalo/Western New York/GTA, Syracuse Orange doesn’t offer any such thing. As a Buffalo/Western New Yorker I could careless about Syracuse Orange anything. Buffalo/Western New York is represented by the Big Four schools UB, St Bonaventure, Canisius and Niagara there is no Syracuse. Syracuse isn’t a Western New York school there Central New York who cares school.
As for the Bonnies they belong in the Big East Conference period see the same deal as UB. The Bonnies market is Buffalo/Western New York/GTA the Bonnies in the Big East Conference would print money basketball wise but the Bonnies need more of a presence in Buffalo and the Great Toronto Area see Buffalo Bills same holds true for the Bonnies never mind about Syracuse Orange they made there bed deserting Western New York decades ago now they deserve everything they get UB has passed them with Football on field success and so have both the Bonnies and Bulls basketball which I support both as a Buffalo/Western New Yorker. I am looking forward to my Kyle Lofton number zero grey alternative Bonnies jersey coming in October I ordered from Sports Locker for the Bonnies basketball season.
The Bonnies should have been in the Big East Conference since the beginning in 1979 after the NBA Buffalo Braves moved to San Diego playing big games in the old Buffalo Memorial Auditorium to replace the loss of the Buffalo Braves. Again for this to happen today the Bonnies need to grow there Buffalo/Western New York/GTA fan base. Again that means more of a presence in Buffalo and Toronto. The Bonnies radio network needs to have a Buffalo affiliate there is no excuse for that in 2021. Again that means the Bonnies need to make a better effort. The Bonnies not playing a game a year in Key Bank Center yearly is beyond strange in 2021. Again Bonnies fans who want Reilly Center only can complain all they want but not playing one game in Key Bank Center for a yearly presence in Buffalo along with a Buffalo radio affiliate in 2021 is strange in my opinion. Go Bonnies! Let’s Go Buffalo
Good points made here. We do need a continued Bona presence in Buffalo for exposure and recruiting purposes. Yes we do need a Bona radio outlet in Buffalo too, especially since the computer connection to the Big Pig is now cookied, and not directly available through the Go Bonnies site - it should be easy to connect with the Brown and White but it is not. That needs to be corrected asap. No excuses.
Secondly, the new stadium for the Bills in Buffalo/OP is inevitable although completely un-necessary. The State of New York and Erie County just spent $150 million in state improvements four years ago, and the stadium is in excellent condition, but that being said the Bills lease is running out and the NFL franchise now holds all the cards. In other words a new stadium will be built whether we like it or not. That is the cold and cruel reality of how the NFL extorts local communities.
Any new stadium built, needs to be a multi use stadium suitable for pro, college and high sports events. Having UB football and certain high school events played in the stadium makes great sense. And how about high school, college and pro soccer too? And of course concerts.
This stadium should not and can not be limited to 8 or 9 Bills home games to the exclusion of other community events. Nor should taxpayers fund the construction of the dozens of luxury boxes, high end steak pubs, or exclusive private clubs in the stadium, those costs should be covered by private funding only, and those facilities should be taxable for local government purposes - town, county and school district purposes - just like any other private business. Are the Pegula's capable of arranging non public funding for their stadium project? Yes of course they are! But will they? Not a chance in hades. Not one cent of public money should be committed to these private fantasies however.
Now let the stadium games begin!
