At the end of the day, who cares? It was nice to be ranked after 50 years outside of the polls, but they don't really matter at all. I am much more concerned with the metrics that the committee will ultimately rely on in March (NET, KenPom, etc.). The difference between #16 and #30 at this point in the season is negligible and can change quickly (as we've seen).
If this team accomplishes everything we all believe they are capable of they will be ranked when it matters - at the end of the season.
Go Bonnies!

Exactamundo. It was fun being in the spotlight for 3 wks with the number before the name. But when Our Guys bowed to UNI, the pollsters dropped us like a bad habit.
So, take the top 25 (read: P6) rankings with a grain of salt. It's what the Bonnies do come March. NCAA committee, not pollsters, make the most important decision .

Let’s see if the pollsters next week are power conference biased. #20 Florida is currently getting LAMBASTED by 0-7 Texas Southern…

Texas Southern only hit 5 3s and 2 free throws. So it’s not like the Gators ran into a shot shooting team or anything, just flat out got their butts kicked

Hey guys, we are sugarcoating things. We lost to UNI, we scraped by Coppin and then won a buzzer beater at home. Yes, we lost our floor leader, but those 3 games is not going to convince anyone we are top 25. We need to beat uconn, period. I don’t care what anybody says, that win vs UB was impressive. They’re predicted to win the MAC. Veteran team. We controlled majority of the game and won without the best PG in the A10. Also held their star center to 2 points and 3 rebounds. Don’t try and discredit it by saying we needed a buzzer beater at home. There’s more to it than that. Also, we didn’t look impressive vs Coppin, but ended up winning by double digits. It’s hard to just obliterate teams. Look at Gonzaga. They struggled to put away Tarleton. Florida got pasted by a winless Texas Southern team. We’re 7-1. The loss to UNI was a freak occurrence. I’ve been to a hundred games at the RC, and i’ve never seen an opposing player catch fire like AJ Green. Lastly, can everybody stop looking ahead to UConn? We have Loyola to beat before then.

Obviously the UB game was impressive to anyone who watched, but the voters are not those people. They will look at the score, read about buzzer beater, see how much we were favored, and at home. Will not push the needle for most voters.

Will not push the needle for most voters. Generally agree, except we were only favored by 3.5. Was a solid win, especially without our most important player.

Lots of mixed reactions by us all. Big difference between what we know and see and what is known/seen by the pollsters, metrics formulas etc.
Baseball GM Billy Bean seldom watches games because it clouded his judgement. Too much emotion. He stuck by his analytics people and the results. Pollsters don’t go that far but how many games do writers and coaches actually watch? They probably are not watching ESPN+ … they look at results and they vote.
We all know mid-majors do not get the benefit of the doubt in regards to metrics, polls etc. We start with one foot in a hole and have to climb out before the race begins.
That’s why it IS satisfying and important to be ranked. The attention matters. It helps with recruiting, fundraising, enrollment etc. It gets us National TV games where people can actually see us and maybe then the eye-test matters… at least until our next close game or next loss.
Also you don’t get extra credit for winning without an injured player. I’m not one to say “who cares” if we are not ranked. Most everyone on this board cares. But we need to be impressive and deserving of votes. Most voters don’t view the MAC as a strong conference, so beating the Bulls in a close game doesn’t help the perception unless UB is ranked. I live in MAC country so I know how underrated the league is. But my vote doesn’t count.
If we keep winning we will take care of all polls and metrics in time.

The rankings do not matter. We are down our best player right now and still need to prove we're an NCAA team all while he's out.
Style points have gone out the window until KL returns. I don't care if we win by 20 or 2 tomorrow. We just need to win and avoid bad losses.
It's going to be tough sledding until Lofton returns. We need to keep or resume in tact and avoid any blemishes.

Agree with everything Chris stated, except "rankings do not matter." I believe they do not matter to Schmidt, but they are very important to fans. I enjoy watching the Bonnies making the Top 25, but honestly the only Top 25 ranking that is important is the last one.

Bubbaw states "the committee doesn’t care about KenPom, which also means nothing but is a helpful barometer of where teams are at." I actually question if they look at any other ratings than NET. It seems like other ratings would just muddle the selection process.
