I know there's already a thread in off-topics, but I wanted to make sure my fellow bonnies see this.
So far, the incoming class of freshmen, Class of 2026, has 571 deposits.
That's the highest number in over 20 years. (And 53% up over class of 2019).
Well done to all at SBU that made this a reality.

Agree great job by all involved with the St Bona admissions effort. What makes it even more impressive IMO is the fact enrollment in Higher Ed is down, in the cases of some colleges and universities as much as 10-20% nationally. Again we thank Dr. DePerro and those that have helped make his vision for a program in the health sciences take root at Bonaventure. Yesterday, the Bonaventure community commemorated the renaming of the health science building, that has undergone a major facelift, to the tune of something north of 16 million dollars with significant contributions from the Meyer and Quick families. When you consider men's lax, enrollment and the health sciences program really starting to take wing, good news abounds. Thanks again to the Meyers and Quicks for your leadership and giving on behalf of St Bonaventure University.

This is great news. Congratulations to all who had a hand in it. I would be curious to know if there is a connection between successful basketball seasons and higher than expected enrollment in the immediately following spring. My gut feeling is that the answer is "yes".

FormerlyKnownAsSkeller, I found this article abut Gonzaga and I would have to say that they likely are an outlier, not every program is going to turn into a Gonzaga, so it's a little bit of apples to oranges, bu the fact remains there is that connection between hoops team success and enrollment. I had seen a story on Butler University, which used to be known for their study abroad porgams, but like Gonzaga they too were facing enrollment decline and alumni giving way down, they held a strategy meeting at the highest level, and made the decision to put serious money in the coaches salary and the basketball budget and the rest, as they say is history. I couldn't find the Butler piece I spoke of, so I am linking the Gonzaga piece. Again Gonzaga's enrollment had shrunk to 2,700 undergrads which is much large than Bonas to begin with. www.espn.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/119205/how-the-basketball-program-helped-gonzaga-university-flourishTo me, in a very positive way, our basketball program for many of our students, faculty and staff, the surrounding community and certainly our alumni, the basketball program is part of who we are IMO. This posting, is not intended in any shape of form to take away from what has been done across the board, but certainly coordinated with the Admissions Office, a coherent message and lots of shoe leather, I guess that's an old term, but you get the idea.

Absolutely agree . No question that the success of the Basketball program and its notoriety is a significant proponent in the enrollment surge.

Pure and simple, name recognition helps. It’s huge in politics, plus in multiple forms of entertainment and it’s no surprise it attracts potential students to colleges. You can debate all day long whether it should, or if that’s a legitimate reason to select a college, but IMO there’s no doubt it’s a real factor in the process. Along with just hearing a name you might not have otherwise, it’s gotta help when the camera catches a bunch of crazies having a good time watching the team.

For those old enough to remember it's called the Flutie Effect. St Peter's President said their apps went up 56% during the run.

I think EVERYONE who is registered to this board should READ what you have said and then think REAL hard about how our team got to Madison Square Garden to allow our rabid fans to be there. WITHOUT the Iron 5 AND Coach Schmidt, there IS no appearance at the Garden and no further publicity of our university. What I'm asking for here is everybody who WANTS this university to improve its status in Division I Men's basketball, especially, and the reputation of our institution as a whole, to THINK about what they are saying that can be read by ALL who go on line before they decide to express their anger about St. Bonaventure players and coaches. It can make a difference whether you know it or not.

You act like we are the only fanbase that expresses anger online, which is laughable. I’m sure angry fans are the reason the traitors left.

Several very positive factors at work here: - Late Great President Dennis DePerro's absolute commitment to the hard push into Allied Health fields was definitely a game changers. It brought Bona into the 21st century of majors, and allowed a whole subset of potential students to apply for admission to SBU. He deserves our eternal gratitude. He had the leadership and interpersonal skills that were badly needed here and he delivered, and more.
- National exposure generated by the MBB under Coach Mark Schmidt generated tens of millions of dollars in national publicity, and has for many years. When this program is featured on ESPN or ESPN2, it commands the attention of hundreds of thousands, and for a marque game millions of viewers nationwide. It would be impossible to pay directly for that type of national media exposure. Even the pre season hype regarding Bonas in the Top 25 was just excellent, not just nationally, but regionally too. This program consistently wins, and consistently gains Bonas positive exposure. Schmidt's salary is a bargain! Can any other program at SBU generate that type of publicity exposure ? Absolutely not.
- The enrollment numbers have not been this large since 1968, pre draft lottery, when over crowding necessitated housing frosh off campus at the then Holiday Inn, and in the Hickey Hall annex (OMG what a dump). Not in 54 years have we seen such numbers enrolled. Rejoice and give thanks.
Its all good!!!!!!!!!!

The School of Health Professions was renamed recently to honor Dr. DePerro. A fitting tribute to a fine gentleman and leader.

Speaking of dumpy on-campus housing, what was the name given to the area where the school placed mobile homes to house students, near the parking lot behind Plassman, near the sewage treatment plant back there? Also, the timing of on-campus housing upgrades starting after graduation, so soon, couldn’t have been better. The condition of some of the dorms is one issue that could blunt the admission growth momentum if the school doesn’t get ahead of it and get everything upgraded soon. I haven’t seen the rooms in more than a decade, but I am concerned that Dev @nd Rob-Fal must really be showing their age.
