Rob-Fal are the nicest dorms on campus. They received a multi-million upgrade in 2016. Allegedly Dev was also recently upgraded but I haven’t seen it myself. Dorms showing the most age are Doyle, Shay and Lo.
They are currently starting work on a brand new dorm on campus near Francis (Christ the King).

This is great, but SBU is not the only institution publishing this kind of news. Both my wife's alma mater and my son's college just announced similar "near records". I wonder how much of it is due to delayed demand from the pandemic such as gap year students finally getting back to it? I would not attribute all of these new students to the basketball team's recent successes. Also I would caution anyone in Admissions about projecting these enrollment numbers out very far, all one has to do is research "declining demographics" a bit to see why.

Diehard - that other schools are doing well also is irrelevant. With our low endowment and yearly on-the-edge finances, it is critical we continue to attract students, so this is nothing short of GREAT NEWS to celebrate. I am sure the Admissions professions realize this kind of growth may not be sustainable and that they need to stay after it going forward and will keep their feet to the fire, nose to the grindstone, or other bodily part to something equally uncomfortable 🥴

Yes the demographic look challenging for colleges in general ; there are many factors in application decisions other than successful sports programs The Sunday paper features a story on Bonn’s erstwhile prospective partner Hilbert beginning a d-3 football team this year It implies a a higher profile and addition of football might increase enrollment. At the same time Niagara is moving to further enhance its nursing program

dadster.....Thanks for the article. Here is the excerpt on BONA which showed the greatest enrollment increase in Western NY (25%).
St. Bonaventure University is seeing rewards of efforts begun under its previous president, the late Dennis DePerro, said its new president, Jeff Gingerich. The Catholic Franciscan university’s enrollment rose from 2,100 in 2017 to 2,624 this year, including a freshman class of 571, the largest in 20 years.
Gingerich cited three reasons for that. The school reassessed programs to reflect market demand, resulting in new offerings in sports media, health science, sports management, physician assistant studies, occupational therapy and nursing, as well as online graduate programs like counselor education.
It also added extracurriculars, including men’s lacrosse, and is forming an esports team to compete with other schools at popular computer games, Gingerich said.
And the school expanded its marketing in Buffalo and Rochester, including focusing on its values with a “Heart Meets Mind” message.
“I think our Franciscan values centered around compassion and integrity have resonated with students who are tired of living in a society that seems to get more divisive with each passing day,” Gingerich said.

Dennis DePerro was a massive game changer for Bonas. Bonas was languishing under mediocre leadership, until Dennis arrived on the scene with new vision, a vision which members of the Board of Trustees saw very clearly.
His determination to install new program majors, especially in the allied health sciences was just the start of our revival...........Dr. Zimmerman continued this great legacy after Dennis was taken from us many years too soon.........
Members of the Board of Trustees who interviewed and hired Dennis deserve much credit....their decision to hire this charismatic leader was just the best.......onward and upward.......in our Catholic and Franciscan faith.......

The night before this article ran a guy on main st in Allegany had to phone the police due to bona students breaking bottles in the street for entertainment Reading the article the Franciscan values theme really stood out In the village the values lived are mostly different from the values the markers tout Peoples’driveways had to be swept out...filled with broken glass.

Obviously not acceptable conduct, but not that unusual near college campuses..........compared to the problems at UB this is minor league annoyance..........and yes Catholic and Franciscan values are very important...

Congrats to the 13 member Bona Admissions team that has been so successful in significantly turning around enrollment #s at Bona over the past several years.
Bernard Valento, VP Enrollment has lead the team in attracting students from 33 states and 20 foreign Countries. Deceased Bona Pres Dennis DePerro initiated programs that met market needs and attracted students.
Chris Scheppner, as the Associate Director of Admissions and manager for the Franciscan Healthcare Professions, is a tireless worker in attracting students to Bona. I used to fill in for him at College Fairs in the NY Metro area when he had a scheduling conflict. He now covers Buffalo, Rochester and Finger Lakes area. No one does it better. You all know him from watching Bona men's games at the RC. He provides the color commentary imparting keen insight on all aspects of the game.  He is the best compared to all TV commentators covering A10 games I have watched on ESPN+.
In spite of the enormous demands on his time it is no secret that when a basketball recruit visits Bona, Coach Schmidt looks to have Chris take the player around. No one can equal his passion for Bona and how to impart that along with his high hoops IQ to a potential player while realizing their mind set.
Wishing the Admissions Team a blessed Christmas and continued success in 2023 enrollment.  Â

Yea ok thanks again................weak leadership and semi literate ideas like a merger with Hilbert put our beloved Bonas in a terrible enrollment bind, Dennis DePerro and his incredible vision completely reversed that trend.....of that there is no doubt....none!

“I think our Franciscan values centered around compassion and integrity have resonated with students who are tired of living in a society that seems to get more divisive with each passing day,” Gingerich said. SO true Our Catholic faith is the center of all learning.................that needs to be constantly re-emphasized in the year of our Lord 2022, as we see constant attacks on the faithful, including over 200 attacks on Catholic Churches and Life centers since the attempted revolution of May 2020. We have seen so many Catholic politicians renounce their own faith, that is really the divisive action......their renunciation of the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church is revolting. Our current challenge is to defend our faith, and spread the good news.
