I wish Jesse all the best as he continues his Good Journey. I am sure it was upsetting to be replaced, especially mid season, but a change was needed and he should not have been surprised.
Glad to see BLUE weigh in on Crowley. BLUE knows more about women's basketball than most. He has a talented daughter playing at The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, NY and for HoopersNY.
But I don't see his mention of CROWLEY as the answer for several reasons. His contract, which I think was 400K when he went left for Providence 6 years ago, would need to be greatly inflated with no assurance he could turn the program around.
I don't believe he is a hungry coach looking to get a program back on track. He may be feeling quite comfortable at the helm of a program with no great pressure to do better. He has a 53-114 conference record since he took over the program with no trending improvement. He was 6-14 last season at a school which is easier to recruit to than Bona.
Crowley, along with his wife Monti and lovely daughter Jocelyn, were seated a few rows behind the Bona bench in Rhody last week. Jocelyn is about 7 years old. I don't see Crowley entertaining any idea of taking her out of her school, away from her friends and back to Olean in spite of having family 2 1/2 hrs away. Of course if he looses his job at Providence as BLUE hints at who knows.
Crowley would be the first to acknowledge that BONA was extremely patient with him who two years after being hired had a 53-114 record.
Bona needs a fresh, talented and hungry coach to take on the reigns. That person is out there and it's up to AD Joe Manhertz and his search committee to find that person.

At the time I was excited about Jesse being hired as coach of the Bonnies. Jesse had impressive credentials as an assistant coach and then add his connection to Crowley and the Bonnies. With both Solomon and Jesse lacking head coaching experience, I'm now hoping for a new coach, who has head coaching experience. Signing someone like Schmidt who showed slow, but steady improvement at Robert Morris would be ideal. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/coaches/mark-schmidt-1.html

Exactly, Chuck. Bona needs a coach with proven D1 recruiting and on-court success.
Put our trust in JM and the search committee to identify and hire the best possible candidate.
This program was great before, twice under Crowley. It can be again.

How about Coach Gaitley late of Fordham. Rubbed some players wrong and Fordham didn’t stick by her, no shocker. Now coaching at her hometown HS team in Jersey highly successful. Great person and charges at Fordham were bs. Welcome to the woke society. Sister Coco was great Asst Coach at Ursuline.

Blue, was she the coach that ran up the score versus the Bonnies some years ago in the a10 tournament, after our team faced tremendous heartache when our Bona sports editor died the night before the game when traveling with the team?

If charges are truly BS then she would be a win for SBU.

The men drew 4100 against a good Duquesne team last night. Women’s attendance and success have been negligible Getting a top candidate for this position will depend more on a visionary choice than on judging coaching records..The hire will have to be someone who wants an opportunity despite the drawbacks.

I would love to see Stephanie Gaitley named the next Bona women's coach, but don't know if Bona can afford her.
Some information on her time at Fordham:
"In her years at Fordham, Gaitley had dug the women’s basketball team out of a deep trench after 20 years of poor performance, leading the Rams to two A10 championships in just 11 years as well as upholding a career record of nearly 700 wins and 393 losses. In just over 10 years, Coach Gaitley has made herself into a historic coach for the Fordham Women’s basketball team as she has earned 220 of her career wins at the Jesuit university. Coach Gaitley built the Rams’ defense from the ground up, and now the team is prided on their defensive abilities. In all her years at Fordham, the team has been noted as being within the top 45 women’s teams in defense. In seven of her 11 years, the team has reached their defensive capabilities into the top-20."
"In just over four decades, before Gaitley joined Fordham, the university’s women’s basketball team only had only five seasons where they won 20 or more games. She led the team to have seven seasons with over 20 wins."
"The owner of a 684-393 career record over 36 years, Gaitley has previously coached at Monmouth, LIU Brooklyn, Saint Joseph's, and Richmond. In total, she has compiled six conference titles, 19 20-win seasons, and has led her team to a postseason berth on 19 occasions, including nine trips to the NCAA Tournament."

Maybe Morrow coaches her way into the job?
From Big Joe
Every day is a job interview,” Manhertz said. “The thing I told Erica is, 'Go get it. Go out and shock the world.' If she does great, it makes this easy for me. Absolutely, she's a candidate."

Stephanie Gaitley has incredible credentials. -- Richmond, before she arrived team had a 20 loss season. In 3rd season she would lead team to their 1st of 4 consecutive 20 win seasons and 2 NCAAs. -- St. Joes, in just 2nd season leads team to a 21-8 record. In her 10 seasons, Gaitley would lead St. Joes to 5 NCAAs and NIT. 7 seasons with 19 or more wins. -- Fordham, prior to arriving team had 19 loss season. In 2nd season team had 26-9 record and NIT bid. In 11 seasons Fordham would have 8 seasons with 20+ wins. Fordham would have 2 NCAAs and 6 NITs. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephanie_Gaitley

Chuck Pollock's article "Manhertz on Fleming firing: It was time." My hope for him this season was that he would pull a “Crowley.” Jim went six seasons without a winning record — 13-15 was tops his second year. In Season 7, Crowley started a glittering 10-year run with only one losing campaign, two trips to the NCAAs, one of them an advance to the Sweet 16, plus four appearances in the WNIT. FOR FLEMING, his seventh season went the other way. “It was just time, it was weighing on Jesse and it was weighing on the kids,” Manhertz said. “We could sense Jesse’s frustration and the girls’ frustration and it was just time for a clean break. The second-year AD admitted that Morrow, who has had coaching experience overseas, will (“absolutely”) be a candidate for the full-time job. “I told Erica,” Manhertz said, “‘focus on academics, bring new energy and have fun playing basketball. Every day’s a job interview. Go get it. Go out and shock the world.’ If she does, great, it makes this easy for me." AND WHILE Morrow is in the mix, Bona’s search for Fleming’s successor has already begun. But we won’t do a traditional organized search … we’ll have six candidates, then bring three to campus. It’ll be a lot of me going and meeting the candidates, traveling to where they are, and talking.” www.oleantimesherald.com/sbu/sports/manhertz-on-fleming-firing-it-was-time/article_f648d930-29a7-5f5d-88aa-5fd4ef9e9ded.html

I don’t think she would be a great representative of our Franciscan values. She was fired at St Joe’s due to retaliation against a player who complained of sexual harassment against her husband. Her former players also detail her “coaching style” in these articles. Sounds like someone who is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Clearly she did not leave Fordham on her own, as her former player states that there was an investigation into her behavior, and if half of what these two players say is true, she should never have a coaching job again. apnews.com/article/3d2c84342c2e515eed11be7e617b5f20www.codyraesims.com/post/fordham-university-basketball-a-dream-turned-nightmaremedium.com/@christinagaskin/college-basketball-nearly-killed-me-84c70b47a42f
