Perhaps the coaching story of the year… Long Beach State coach Dan Monson and the AD decided to part ways after the team lost five straight earlier this month to fall to 10-10 in the final Big West standings. Munson would be allowed to finish his 17th season as the LBSU coach. Well, his team won the conference tourney as the 7th seed, earning its second NCAA bid in 15 years.
Monson was the coach who first led the Gonzaga program into prominence, reaching the Elite 8 in 1998. He then moved on to Minnesota and Long Beach.

speaking of Canisius I saw Toronto native Frank Mitchell entered the portal shortly after Witherspoon's dismissal.
I think he's someone to look into as a transfer. He's a rugged, big bodied forward (6'8 250), not usually Schmidt's type but we sometimes do get pushed around at the 4 position in conference play too. Mitchell could be solid depth. He had a double-double at the RC in their victory over us and I thought he was their best player

It looks like Keith Dambrot will be retiring from Duquesne. Press conference later today. It had been rumord for months that this might be his last season. Now gets to go out on top.

congrats to Dambrot and hopefully his wife does well with her condition...on the hoops front...it is well known that Labron is a major factor in the Dukes NIL program...does that river of $$ continue to flow with Dambrot gone ?

I believe one of the assistants has ties with Lebron as well! I think if he gets the job, yes it will continue.

I harken back to the days of Jim E. Midnight creating his own coaches transfer portal every off season. His interview circuit achieved Diamond status on Delta within 2 years, a feat that has never been accomplished before, or since. Should have raised red flags back then that nobody wanted him, yet the school kept paying him.
My fears are that Mark is heading down the same runway these days...and he isn't even considered a true "bonaventure" man. Such titles are only bestowed upon those that leave for Rhode and then go Canisius. Perhaps Mark's UMASS hostage attempt will circumvent the rules.

Dambrot officially announced he will retire after the season ends, so whenever the NCAA run ends. Nice way to go out.

Prayers for Coach Dambrot's wife's health, and congratulations to coach Dambrot for doing a remarkable job bringing the Duke's back to the NCAA Dance.

I believe one of the assistants has ties with Lebron as well! I think if he gets the job, yes it will continue. That assistant at Duquesne is Dru Joyce III. He was LeBron’s high school teammate and childhood best friend — who starred for Dambrot at Akron U. Joyce’s father was their AAU and then high school coach when Dambrot left to coach Akron. The Joyce and Dambrot families (and James) are close so it would make sense that Dambrot would push for Joyce III as his replacement.

Looks like Siena will be looking for a new coach.
Gerry McNamara figures to be a fit there...

Just read the story in the Albany Times Union. Carmen is a friend and I reached out. He's out and the Siena gig is potentially a really good one. Fran McCaffrey and others have done well. Even Rob Lanier took the Saints to the NCAAs and won a play-in game. Gerry McNamara? Perhaps. This is one to monitor.
