With Alfred game being just a week away, I'm expecting articles from A-10 Talk will become more frequent, so I created this thread. Another added bonus is posters from the former Bevel message board now post on forum at A-10 Talk. Attached is another solid article “A-10 freshmen to watch” from Thomas Aiello of A-10 Talk. He gives his opinion of the top freshman for each A-10 team. Following are the four A-10 freshmen with the most P6 offers (according to Verbal Commit). I used mainly players Aiello chose in his article. The one exception is I disagree with his choice for St. Joe's. #1) 6’4” Marvel Allen (Dayton) is clearly the top freshman recruit in the A-10. Received 15 P6 offers. Might very well be A-10’s top freshman recruit since Dayton’s Daron Holmes, who received 21 P6 offers. Earlier Rival article calling him a 5 star recruit. It has always amazed me how Rivals drop a player ranking after they sign with the A-10. Currently he is Rivals 4 star recruit and ranked #99 in his class. He originally committed to Georgetown, but changed his mind after Patrick Ewing was fired. #2) 6’6” Shawn Simmons (St. Joe’s) received 9 P6 offers. Zagblog has an article stating he is 247’s 4 star recruit. ESPN has Shawn as the 7th ranked player from Arizona. Chose St. Joe’s over P6 programs as he became a fan of the Hawks. His dad would talk about the great Hawks team of Jameer Nelson. #3) 6’8” Jaylen Curry (UMass) 8 P6 offers. 247’s Top 140. They also rank Curry the 12th rank player from Florida. Official UMass website “Earned a gold medal with Team USA at the 2021 FIBA Americas U16 Championship.” #4) 6’3” Jecoi Hutchinson 4 P6 offers. 4 star rating from ESPN and On3. ESPN ranks Jecoi the 14th ranked player from Florida. Official GW website state Jecoi is “GW's highest-ranked player on a national scale since J.R. Pinnock in 2003.” Aiello chose Duane Thompson as Bonnies top freshmen with following. His size alone reeks of Andrew Nicholson. He’s athletic, switchable on defense, and plays in a team system on offense. Thompson is the prototype recruit Mark Schmidt looks for when building his roster. Thompson will have a minuscule role for year one, playing behind Yann Farell, who shares the same position as Thompson: the athletic four who can play like a guard. Thompson is a good perimeter defender, averaging two steals on the AAU circuit for the PSA Cardinals. He’ll have to develop his outside game, but Mark Schmidt is great at tapping into talent that may not have been recognized before arrival into his program. Actually I disagree with above about Duane “he’ll have to develop his outside game.” Duane has displayed a solid 3 during pickup games this summer. I think Duane needs to develop a post game. If you are wondering, Yann received 10 P6 offers. www.a10talk.com/a10-freshmen-to-watch/www.verbalcommits.com/players/yann-farell#google_vignette

You want a sleeper in the A-10? UMass would be a solid choice. Frank Martin has assembled an impressive team by using the transfer portal and signing 2 very talented freshmen. 6’10” Josh Cohen (senior) was NEC player of the year. He led NEC in scoring with a 21.8 ppg. 6’7” Matt Cross (junior) led UMass in scoring last year with a 12.2 ppg. He is a 4 star recruit from all the recruiting services and ranked #82 overall by ESPN. 6’8” Jaylen Curry (freshman) 8 P6 offers. 247’s Top 140. They also rank Curry the 12th rank player from Florida. Official UMass website “Earned a gold medal with Team USA at the 2021 FIBA Americas U16 Championship.” 6’6” Robert “The Natural” Davis Jr. (freshman) with 20 points led UMass in scoring during their recent exhibition game. 6’2” Rahsool Diggins (junior) probably is the A-10’s highest rated PG from the transfer portal. He is a 4 star recruit from all the recruiting services and ranked 58 by ESPN and 59 by Rivals. A-10 Talk “Martin pumped the program with a crap ton of talent that fits his intense style, and retained some of McCall’s men and then filled out the roster with power five castoffs and some of his South Carolina guys. Things were going VERY well to start the season. Martin’s group started the year 9-3 and won the Myrtle Beach Invitational. And then the injuries piled up…oh did they pile up.” UMass was picked 13th on A-10’s Media Day. If UMass avoids injuries this season, they have the talent to surpass their modest projection on A-10 Media Day. www.a10talk.com/minutemen-give-a-strong-showing-in-exhibition-game-against-western-connecticut/www.a10talk.com/2023-24-atlantic-10-team-preview-massachusetts/

St Joes is among my top 3 in the A-10 with both Reynolds and Grier returning as possibly the best backcourt in the A-10. Shaky performance today agaisnt Manhattan in an open scrimmage. Our old pal Rumpel with 17 for Manhattan in that game 🥲

I don’t know about anyone else, but I am a lot more confident in Mika Adams-Woods than a guy who regularly threw the ball away and wasn’t guarded farther than 10 feet.

We’ll see how Mika does agaisnt st joes brotha ! I would wait a little bit to take the victory lap. I hope he does well, but it was an exhibition game. 5 points two turnovers 3 rebounds 3 assists and four fouls was what Rumpel had against St. Joes last year.I feel confident Mika can beat this. You can direct your anger at Bandwagon posters or maybe you should direct it at Coach Schmidt? Roster decisions are not made here. I also will be interested in how Adams-Woods does at Dunkin?

I just watched the first half of that Saint Joe’s vs Manhattan in a charity game. Saint Joe’s ended the half up 7, 43 to 36, I thought the pool looks pretty good, in addition to scoring, I know he hit at least one three, and had a couple nice assists and looked a heck of a lot more relaxed. Manhattan also has. A kid from China, last name, Lee, who I believe is a freshman, who looks to have a pretty nice game, I don’t know if I call him a Ford or a center.
The truth be told, the game was a fundraiser for autism and both coaches use their bench fairly liberally. Again, I just watch the first half, but Saint Joe’s. I thought look pretty. Good. I think Joe. Lunardi, was even on the carnally, and he talked briefly about Saint Joe’s” secret scrimmage with Providence, up in Rhode Island. St Joes freshman big, Christ Essanoko, a 7 foot, 285 lb center Was alleged, it was a secret scrimmage to have gone for 25 points 15 rebounds up there. Apparently Saint Joe’s was just one possession away at the end of the scrimmage. Watching. Essanoko, looks to have good hands and good foot work and you’ll bring something to Saint Joe’s hasn’t had a University long time a real presence in the middle. Some of Saint Joe’s freshman also look pretty good and we already know what Reynolds Greer and Brown can do. . I thought I would close with some comments on the George mason vs West Virginia, charity game up in Morgantown. Mason has got some players, we already know about polite but, I thought for Mason the player of the game was Darius Maddox, the 6 foot five, wing. I don’t recall what his numbers were at Virginia Tech, but he appeared to be one heck of a ball player. He has the ability to create his own shot and seem to be able to pull up from everywhere and shoot. Woody Newton is 6 foot eight combo guard, who had previous stops at Syracuse, and Oklahoma is also a threat, but Maddox looked all a 10. The patriots held the lead for most of the game, and seem to confuse the mountaineers with their matchup zone defense. But the mountaineers caught fire, leading the game and ended up winning. I want to say by 10? Familiar faces for the mountaineers would be Jesse Edwards, the big from Syracuse and Alok Alok who had stops at UConn and Georgetown Ajok seemed to pass out in the course of play, and was taken to the hospital, and I did see something from the West Virginia coach. That indicated he was in stable condition, but was being kept overnight for observation. I also saw Pawvette, the big from eastern Michigan, who we had shown some interest in playing for Mason.
Butch, St., Jones, particularly if they can get some play out of Essanoko, and I think they will, with a couple of their freshmen, and what they had last year they IMO are going to be a really competitive team. It’ll be interesting in a non-conference season to see what they do. As for Mason, I had seen him in another exhibition against St. Thomas of Florida, and I think that while they don’t have a Oduro anymore, they may have a more balanced attack, time will tell.

Just quoting what y’all said cuz it’s funny u can comment on people’s game but can’t make a left handed layup lol. Check my past threads I’ve gone in on Schmidt plenty of times. Not a players coach that’s why he’s never won an ncaa tournament game besides the first four. He also played what 12 minutes at most last year … this is also a better st joes team than last year… just displaying what he can do with meaningful minutes

My son in law saw BRETT at the Manhattan version of Midnight Madness. When introduced he walked out calmly wearing shades to blaring music then broke into wild break dancing that ignited the crowd. Something he did at Bona as well. I spoke with their old AD (retired end of last season) who said he will have competition at G. Today at Hawk Hill, in a 10 pt loss, he was the Jasper's top scorer with 15 pts on 58% shooting. BRETT put Jaspers ahead at 17-16 with a layup. Midway thru the 2nd half Jaspers were up 58-54.
\PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Manhattan men's basketball squad played in front of the public for the first time in an exhibition game at Saint Joseph's with a portion of the proceeds benefiting autism education. Saint Joseph's won the exhibition 78-68.
"Today we faced a quality opponent, who I think has a chance to be a top 25 team in America," said head coach John Gallagher. "We learned a lot about ourselves, and we're going to continue to grow both on and off the floor. As we prepare for November 6th, this gave us a great opportunity to see where we are. Back to work on Monday." The Jaspers were led in scoring by Brett Rumpel, who had 15 points and six rebounds, shooting 58.3% from the floor. Xinyi Li hit a pair of three-pointers to finish with 13 points, including a 3-for-3 performance from the charity stripe. Seydou Traore led all Jaspers in rebounds with seven to go along with eight points. Manhattan opens the season on Nov. 6 at Bryant at 6 p.m. in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
