St Joe’s continues to roll… knocks off Princeton 74-70. The Tigers were 9-0 and had a net rank of #11 entering today’s game. Big win for the Hawks and the A10.

Incredible week for the Bonnies NET. Following is from A-10 Talk Power Rankings. — A-10 Power Rankings have Bonnies moving from 5th to 4th this week. — Blowout wins against UB (25 points) Niagara (34 points) and Siena (31 points) has moved Bona’s NET to #71. — According to A-10 Talk Power Rankings the Bonnies NET has improved by an incredible 56 spots for the past week. — Next best improvement from the top 12 teams in A-10 is St. Joe’s and Duquesne improving 15 spots. St. Louis improved by 38 spots, but we are talking about moving from 258 to 220, which is equivalent to moving from awful to bad. A-10 has another solid week. — A-10 continues to hold 8th place in Warren Nolan’s NET rankings. Last year A-10 finished 12th. — A-10 has the 8th best winning percentage at 65.7% which is 1% less than the Big East and 2% less than PAC 12. — Top of the A-10 has displayed dramatic improvement this week. With 7 schools, almost half of A-10 has a NET below 100. Another 2 schools just missing with NETs of 102 and 106. Last season there were just 3 teams finishing with NET below 100. Next best had a 130 NET. Impressive performance by A-10, with just a little more than 2 weeks left with OOC schedule. Important to note, conference NET doesn’t move much once conference games begin (as teams basically play other teams in their conference with only a few exceptions). www.a10talk.com/2023/12/a10-mens-basketball-power-rankings-december-11-2023/www.a10talk.com/2023/12/a10-mens-basketball-power-rankings-december-4-2023/www.warrennolan.com/basketball/2024/net-conferencewww.warrennolan.com/basketball/2023/net-conference

Chuck, in the evening are usually check out a couple of college basketball games, but last night I couldn’t find much and tonight it’s just a little bit better. I checked the board a couple times a day, keeping a particular eye out for any recruiting news, which lately has been pretty slim. I never reset my Twitter account, and so I have to scroll for quite a bit defined. SRUnfurled or OSUN shot blocker all the other people I follow ere not to be found, so that makes recruiting tid bits a lot harder to come by. I was going to pack it in, but then I saw your pita, Chuck, made my day. Just have to keep chopping wood.
I also agree with the other poster about St Joe’s seen them 3 or4 times against Kentucky, Villanova and Princeton, they are solid. But I think just about the whole zA10, with maybe a few exceptions, is on the upswing,

it was a mixed bag today for the A10, going 7-5 with one game still in doubt.
Dayton 82-68 over Cincinnati.
UMass beat WVU 87-79 in the second game at Springfield. WVU is having a bad year but it’s always good to take down a P6 for.
VCU over Temple. The Rams were up 50-31 at half and held on to win by 9.
SJU is destroying Iona late in the second half.
LaSalle played #24 Miami tough, losing by 7.

Attached is A-10’s Talk article on FAU game. The surprising part for me was it being written by Ray Floriani. Ray was a writer of my favorite magazine of all time Eastern Basketball Magazine. Ray would cover the Bonnies for the magazine. Thanks to the internet I discovered the following. — NIT named him “Media Man of the Year in 1999 and again in 2006.” — Ray is a 1974 graduate of Bona. — Student basketball manager from 1970-74. — Member of the Bandwagon with 43 posts. His X page describes every Bonnie with “Once a Bonnie always a Bonnie.” www.a10talk.com/2023/12/fau-64-st-bonaventure-54-numbers-and-notes/dalydoseofhoops.blogspot.com/p/staff.html

Unfurl has following. 1. Jon Rothstein states “The Atlantic 10 has two teams --- Dayton (30) and St. Joe's (49) --- ranked in the Top 50 of the NET. They will only play ONCE during the regular season. Brutal development for a league trying to return to multi-bid status. 2. Unfurl has a solution with A10 should be creative/proactive (ha!) with scheduling: - Play everyone once. - Then, create 3 groups of 5 based on NET - Teams 1-5 play each other, as do 6-10 and 11-15 I've been saying this for 4 years now. I was curious what Unfurl's concept would look like. The 3 groups if conference play started today. Group 1: Dayton St. Joe’s Duquense Bona G. Mason Group 2: Umass Richmond VCU Davidson GW Group 3: LaSalle Loyola St. Louis Fordham RI Unfurl’s concept would improve the NET of the top 5 teams in the A-10. — Last season A-10's top 5 teams had 20+ wins. This is comparable to other seasons. — The difference was the other 9 teams had losing records and 7 of them had 199+ NET. — These teams ruined the NET for the top 5 teams in the A-10. Comparing A-10 to P-6 conferences. — The top 4 P-6 conferences (by NET) had at most 1 team with losing record and +200 NET. — ACC and PAC 12 had 2 teams with losing record and +200 NET. ** Mountain West sent 4 teams to this season’s NCAA Tournament. Like the Big 12, Mountain West did not have a team with a 200 NET. www.warrennolan.com/basketball/2023/conference/Atlantic-10www.warrennolan.com/basketball/2023/net-conference

Amazing the difference between NET and RPI. One big difference is NET uses point spread. Winning by a lot and losing by a lot is very important with NET. Comparing Bona and St. Louis, I wonder which is more accurate, NET or RPI? From NET and RPI team sheets. — Bonnies (7-3) NET 79, RPI 149, Avg. NET wins 260 (average NET of teams Bonnies defeated). — St.Louis (6-6) NET 210, RPI 109, Avg. NET wins 183. Bona — 1 loss to a team with NET over 100 (Canisius NET 133). — Lacks a blowout loss, with largest 17 against Auburn. — 3 blowout wins (30, 34, 33). St. Louis — 1 loss to a team with a NET over a 100 and it is barely over a 100, losing to Vermont (7-3) with a 103 NET. — 1 blowout loss (39 points) and another by 19. — Unlike Bona, St. Louis lacks a blow out win (12 point largest). ** The one stat that really stands out is the Average NET Wins. Bonnies 7 wins have come against very weak teams with a NET averaging 260, compared to 183 for St. Louis. With their 210 NET, I was expecting St. Louis to be destroyed playing at NC State with a 63 NET. St. Louis led for entire game until 12:33 left in the game (St. Louis lost by 12). One thing is obvious, St. Louis is a lot better than their 210 NET. www.warrennolan.com/basketball/2024/schedule/Saint-Bonaventurewww.warrennolan.com/basketball/2024/schedule/Saint-Louis

The A10 deserves more than 1 team this year. Dayton and another team. Some of the squads didnt help matters last night though.

Top 9 teams in the A-10 are having a great season. — From a-10.com “A-10 is only 1 of 4 conferences with 9 teams with a winning percentage at or above .700, with the 4 conferences being Big 12, ACC, Big 10 and A-10.” Talk about select company for A-10 to be mentioned with. — Even bottom of A-10 compares well with the P6. Big 12, Big 10, SEC and Big East conferences have 1 team with a losing record. A-10 is tied with ACC and PAC12 with two teams with a losing record. — Last season VCU had A-10’s best NET at 53, with Dayton 2nd at 78 NET. Now Dayton has a very impressive 25 NET. Even more impressive, the next 4 teams; St. Joes NET 64, Duquesne 66, Bona 67, and George Mason 72 have a NET better than Dayton’s final NET of 78 last season. Last season A-10 had just 3 teams with a NET below 100. Currently A-10 has 8 teams under a 100 and another just missing out at 104. — Having so many teams with solid NETs is going to help improve A-10 teams NET during conference games. - Probably even more important is the bottom teams in the A-10. Last season A-10 had 9 teams finish with losing records and 7 with a NET 199+. It killed the NET of the 6 A-10 teams with 20+ wins. As mentioned only 2 teams currently have a losing record and just 3 have NETs over 200. Unlike last season A-10 should see their NET improve during conference games. Even with a current 67 NET, it is possible for Bona to get an at large bid. Bonnies need a couple Q1 wins along with more Q2 wins. It is now possible with a much improved A-10. ** Interesting to note. Last season, Bona and Dayton were the only A-10 teams to get a Q1 win during conference games. Both earned it by defeating VCU at their place. VCU was unable to get a Q1 game, because rest of A-10 didn’t have a strong enough NET. This shows the importance of A-10 having 8 teams with solid NETs. atlantic10.com/documents/2023/11/5/2324_MBBNotes.pdfwww.warrennolan.com/basketball/2024/net-conferencewww.warrennolan.com/basketball/2024/conference/Atlantic-10www.warrennolan.com/basketball/2023/conference/Atlantic-10
