Talking about a coaching change is preposterous. Schmidt will retire at Bona. I’m just saying, he isn’t perfect. Who's to say he doesn't retire in April? Honestly. I think he would be awesome on TV as a second career. Again - not saying he WILL retire or saying that I'm wishing he does, but it's honestly not that far fetched.

Those guys do that not because they want to, they were fired and needed work

I mentioned that Schmidt has been here 17 years and it could be the grind has gotten to him. Watching this team’s inconsistent play carry over from last year makes me wonder if the player’s are listening. At times it looks as if the effort is lacking and that is troubling. We are losing to teams that execute much better. We never seriously threatened LaSalle in the 2nd half and they are a bottom feeder in the A10.

The point of this post isn't to reminisce on old times, how successful Mark Schmidt has been throughout his career... he is an icon here as coach and nobody can argue that.
It's about whether Mark has lost his mojo... whether he can truly motivate this generation of players... we have had tremendous talent recently and we don't have much to show for it, and teams with less talent are beating us (sometimes handily).
All of this matters... the success of the program will generate more $$ through postseason berths, which will reduce the needs of the BAF and allow for more $$ to funnel into NIL... but if the program isn't winning, both BAF and NIL contributions will suffer... the University needs to take a long look at this and potentially make some difficult decisions over the next couple of years.

As far as I can see in the box scores Mark Schmidt has not played one second for Bonas this season......please stop with this nonsense, Mark coaches he does not play and does miss open threes either. Many delusional posts here........Mark is best thing that has happened to Bonas over the last two decades......apparently no one is smart enough to remember the "great years" of Solomon, or DeCarli...........or Chapman... The all time leader in Bona victories.......will take Mark over any one.........Go Bonas!! Ummm… he is solely responsible for putting the roster together and putting players on the court. The players who miss open 3’s. As my post clearly stated, specifically in reference to Solomon, we should be eternally grateful for what Mark has done. Nor do I think he should be fired right now. But any organization worth a damn doesn’t rest on its laurels and say “well it was so much was worse beforehand.” These last 2 years have not been good enough. It’s a big off-season that we have to get right. Another .500 year next season and questions need to be asked. If you don’t think that way, I’d be disappointed with associating with that thought process for this program.

Excellent point. I like most people am NOT advocating that we need a new coach. Many of us are pointing out FACTS: A) Schmidt’s players are underperforming… players his staff recruited B) Our roster has holes… just like every Bona team since 1970 maybe, including our last two NCAA teams C) Something is not right about this team (chemistry, strategy, effort etc) D) Coach deserves accolades when his teams have success — and he gets heat when his teams don’t meet expectations Those of you who want to call us idiots or other non-creative adjectives for pointing out Schmidt’s deficiencies are either blind or ignorant. He’s been a great coach but he’s not doing a great job now. Those two things are not exclusive. Mark is the coach, recruiter and the fixer. The team has been broken for 2 seasons. Let’s have more of the same mediocrity next year!

I'm still looking for some set plays for Barry at the rim for easy dunks. Still looking to play our 2 centers at the same time...high low action. Not sure we really run as many sets as in the past or are we not executing. Like others have posted not sure how 1000 point scores can't score in this offense. What does this team do in practice?

B.) true but not as many as in past-even in good years C.) so true-but none of us know what efforts to correct it have been tried D.)true-but we are in year 2 of NIL world. Tough to adapt on fly in ever changing world Winning does indeed bring more donations. Even NCAA units don’t decrease the need. We need more donations win or lose. BAF, NIL, Bolder Bonaventure. Whatever path(s) strike you-give! Buy tix through the school. Can you get them cheaper in secondary markets, yes. But for A10s and some tourneys we have to sell x number of seats. Go to games at RC-bring a friend. Great time, great value. Buy merch from approved outlets. Give!

The old Soviet Union teams never played their best in the Preliminary rounds. They always saved plays for the medal rounds and did quite well. Like the Soviets, we have to ask if Coach Schmidt is holding back the players and plans to unleash a new strategy for the A-10 Tournament? What is he saving? Coach Schmidt's teams always peak in March. This A-10 Tournament is going to be interesting. By the way, Dayton lost to Mason. The Tournament is going to be wide open, and Coach Schmidt knows it.

Not correct. Did we peak the last 2 seasons by losing our first games in the A10 tourney? Or by losing 7 of 8 games down the stretch last season. Stop making excuses and generalizations that are not true.

Mark has done a nice job, but he's never even won a first round game in the NCAA. Yes, we won a play in and that was because UCLA played poorly. Not necessarily us playing well. He is not a great coach. Sorry if that offends some, but it's the truth! To boot, if a Great coach like Bill Belichick can be let go, then Mark Schmidt can as well!

Except a lot of people don’t think Belichek is a great coach. He sucked before TB12, and he sucked after TB12. Meanwhile, Brady left and IMMEDIATELY won a SB without Bill.
