This is from an article re a college Football coach who just jointed the Buffalo Bills for his first time working in the NFL. He had been a college coach for almost 20 years and enjoyed developing players
"Where things started to change for me was really actually over the last year or so, with the advent of NIL and the transfer portal. Real relationships aren’t necessarily a thing as they used to be in the college football realm. Everyone is a hired gun. You’re coaching kids for a year.”
And he was coaching at a Power 5 school with deep pockets. So everyone is feeling the strain. Players deserve to make as much $ as they can. So things are turned upside down. As many have discussed, i think the NCAA caused the chaos we are now seeing because of their approach the past 15 years.
My Magic 8 Ball is telling me that the next few years will be volatile till the dust settles. I see older coaches who are big on development looking at retirement, I see coaches salaries coning down as schools move $ to player pay, and i see alumni fans tying themselves to the school and not to players who may only be there for one year. Unfortunately, as least with my Magic 8 Ball, that means a rough ride for Bonas. Another way of putting it, I do not see a player at Bonas in the next 10 years making a dent in any list of the"greatest Bonnie players" - they wont be here long enough.

I read on ESPN the 1983 North Carolina State NCAA Champions are suing the NCAA for NIL money.

I read on ESPN the 1983 North Carolina State NCAA Champions are suing the NCAA for NIL money. How can they prove their NIL Worth back in 1983? I really don't think this law suit will award them any money. LOL. What a complete shit show college sports have turned into. Better off watching the NBA b/c those players are now more loyal to their teams. And bona's was sanctioned and suffered from having one ineligible player? ? That set the program back years and years. What a joke. Small college basketball conferences are most likely history. Pretty much have to follow NCAA hoops like watching pickup games.

Remember the Tom Riker recruiting scandal that cost Bonas to sit out NCAA tournament in 1968 -69 season when Lanier was a junior. That was a warning shot across the bow for mid- majors that the NCAA was watching. It rarely happened to larger schools who were complicit in breaking the rules.

I wonder what our NIL budget is? Just hope there is a plan being discussed by mid- majors for a separate league tournament? Schools need to totally review athletic programs moving forward. The game has changed.

The game has changed. From discussions that I've heard with Team Unfurl, we are competitive but nowhere near the Daytons and VCUs of the world... LUC also has a substantial budget relative to us... the initial goals are for us to keep up with schools such as St. Joe's. Remember that NIL giving is not tax-deductible, so that does take some folks out of the mix.

To keep this in perspective, Dayton's enrollment is 4 times Bonas, and VCU is about 9 or 10 times our enrollment. Both have very supportive basketball fans. And they are both located in decent size cities. SO their chances of having higher NIL due to # of alumni, supportive fans, and business sponsorships, is much higher than ours. Just the way it is.
I have been thinking about Joe 48 idea of a separate tournament. The NCAA umbrella serves a purpose, but its importance (in my mind) is dwindling. Major College football has been operating outside of the overall NCAA rules for decades now. So maybe in the near future, a Mid Major Tournament may make sense. TV and Cable Negotiations would be key. We might not be able to generate as many "eyeballs" as March Madness, and the first few years may be a little rough, but it is forward thinking, TV needs content, and we would not be beholding to the Power 5 (plus Big East and maybe American) scraps. Betters would like it (more games to bet on) and may raise regular season viewership as fans want to follow teams that could possibly make the tournament. Would probably be an end to the NIT, but it could be a higher quality product.

I'll stop watching/investing if there's a mid major split. Can you tell me who won the D2 tournament? I can't cause who cares. That's what a mid major tournament would be.
luckily everyone else thinks its a dumb idea except for a few people here, which is weird

KC I guess I am one of the weird ones. Good question on the D2 tournament. I also cannot tell you who won the World Series, NBA, or the Stanley Cup. Don't know, don't care. I do care alot about Bonas basketball (along with the Bills, lax and softball) and I always have enjoyed rooting for underdogs. That is why right now, I do not see a great way for Bonas to compete on the National Level going forward - lack of funds, lack of consistency of players, etc. So would I be more interested in watching a tournament with a more balanced playing field with Mid Majors? Yes. Maybe it is growing up in a small town, maybe it is coaching kids sports for 10 years. I love the underdog role - if allowed to compete. Right now, the NCAAs is set up not to allow us to "compete" let it be in games against bigger schools, or feeling that we have a way into the NCAAs without winning the post season tournament. Right now my crystal ball is not clear, and nobody else's in the mid majors is, but I definately could see this play out this way. But as my wife will tell you, I am wrong more than I am right.

But if we played in the “B” league, as you are pining for, we wouldn’t be underdogs anymore, the A10 is the premier mid major conference in the nation. NIL is another challenge but what else is new? We’ve been battling the big guys my whole life, why run from that
