St. John's, Pitt and Washington have all indicated they will not accept an NIT bid in the last hour or so. This puts Bona closer to the bubble, but probably not close enough.

In addition to Memphis, Indiana, and Ole Miss, who have all declined. Well in the unlikely event we even get an invite hopefully the school is smart enough to decline. The transfer portal officially opens tomorrow morning. It will be like the NFL free agent frenzy. We already lost our best returning player in Barry Evans along with 5 seniors. The staff needs to fill a roster with quality players and fill it quickly, not have players who will not be here next year play in meaningless games. What is the point? Why is anybody even talking about the NIT?

Should we have declined in 2022 (with 5 seniors, after a disappointing season)?

Should we have declined in 2022 (with 5 seniors, after a disappointing season)? Well four of those guys had virtually committed to coming back and use the Covid year. We all know the story. And that team, although disappointing on a national level, was good. And all four of those players were virtually home grown, Shoon, Kyle and Dom 4 year guys and Holmes a three year guy. Long time representatives of the school. Not the current team obviously. This team vastly underachieved. There is no comparison in my opinion.

Point is, if we were to make a deep run as in 2022, it would be good for the school/program. Coaches can still recruit (indeed it might be good for recruiting).

If Chad, Noel, Assa and Luc all tell the staff they are returning I would make an exception and pay to play as that would also give our two true frosh redshirts extra practices for next year. Combined, that would make it worth it to me., because otherwise I’d say no way. One other budget consideration is whether we are eligible to have an off season foreign trips (isn’t it once every four years (or is it longer?. In any event when was the last time we went on one of those trips? If the budget for a trip would be impacted by paying to play, I would use the money for the foreign trip when the whole 24-25 squad would be on campus.

To be honest I have moved on from this group. And it sounds like Barry has moved on from Bonas. So it is time to focus and put all the staff's efforts on the 24/25 season I think.

Understand both sides of this, not saying either side is wrong, but if an offer comes, what kind of money are we taking about for the school?

The NIT isn’t a big money generator for its participants. In fact, it can be a drain.

So no NIT bid for BONNIES, but St. Joe's and sub 500 Xavier do!

Those end of the year losses to GW and SLU, probably a deciding factor.
