Is it public info how much NIL money we are paying each player? Certainly should be public. I mean, some of you/us donate, guys get paid … team looks lazy, confused and disinterested every third or fourth game. Guys still get paid. We beat some decent teams but sleepwalk through losses to Canisius, GM, Richmond, Fordham, GW, LaSalle, etc. Guys get paid.
Bless his heart, Woj makes another big NIL donation and matches other gifts last week. Then some/all guys refuse to play in the NIT and a few/many hit the portal.
Quite possible that injuries to Chad/Noel and maybe others, plus the defection of Barry and Luc made it impossible to field a decent team. Then please tell us so. Don’t pull the wool over our eyes while asking for more donations of every type after each A10 tourney win.
Yeah, we need to pay some players to be competitive but what does that really mean? Going 9-9 and getting the 7th seed? One year after losing 7 of our final 8 and getting the 9 seed. Coaches and admin definitely don’t have this portal/NIL thing figured out yet… or maybe mediocrity is our ceiling going forward.
We saw blog posts from Mike Vacaro and other Bona media types during our last NCAA runs. Don’t they feel the need to give their views when this stuff happens?
Seems like wasted NIL money and another wasted season.

I bet banks, woods, pride, Venning and flowers are getting some money. Luckily, Bona's is still not at the level where Freshman get paid. Ugh. This whole thing is killing teams. |

All scholarship players received some level of NIL money this year regardless of what year they were and how much they played. The amounts each player was paid was different based on whatever deal they made and in some cases how they performed. |

NIL money should be tied to how the team performs (not on individual performance). That way everyone works together for a common goal and everyone wins, if successful.
Tiers (for example):
NCAA final 4
NCAA sweet 16
NCAA 1st round
A10 tournament champions
A10 reg season champions
NIT
20 wins

Seriously, what players on this team actually performed well enough to get any type of reimbursement above what a scholarship offered? My guess is ZERO. NIL is a sham, a total joke.

If you solely read this message board you would think we went 11-21 and had a team full of incompetent basketball players but also got an NIT invite somehow and turned it down because of all the teams that declined, only our coach was too incompetent to stop them. Chad gave us some great moments and I’ll be grateful for him coming here during a moment of need. I also wish him the best.
But I do think his usage was a drag on the team. Schmidt’s fault or not, I think we can do better at the 5. I’m not saying “addition by subtraction” but I think we’ll be better off. Some will hate that. So be it.
