C'mon eks20002, "Manhertz is Schmidt’s boss"? Thanks for the laugh. If Schmidt really wanted to play they would never have made the decision to withdraw from consideration. There is NO WAY Manhertz would overrule Schmidt. If that were to happen one of them would already be on a bus and I guarantee it wouldn't be Schmidt.

I am not sure what your post is about because I am saying that if Schmidt wanted to play they would have. I am say he had a hand in the decision because nothing happens with the program without his hands in it. Can you explain what I said that was contradictory to that? My posts have said coach has the power to do what he wants.

While this debacle is not an NCAA violation, it does display a lack of institutional control. the illustrious JvBK was run out of town on much less evidence. Send smug Schmidt packing. Congrats on the 18 years of service but his time has come to an end. Meanwhile, he is likely playing the victim and trying to get another raise. I wonder if the admin didn't want to pay the cost to update the NIT banner to include 2024. Sure hope they raise season ticket prices next year! Now you're back in your wheelhouse. Sorry to say, your recent work has been slipping. Too obvious IMHO. But, this is fine, nuanced work. Jvbk ran out of town b/c he brought in a player that Blatantly didn't qualify with plenty of evidence and it set the program back years for recruiting etc. This is nowhere near comparable. Schmidt has to replace 8 -9 players and these couple of weeks are said to be crucial for recruiting. I'm glad they are trying to improve the roster rather than traveling somewhere to play. This team was not that good-they never came together. They shot horribly. The NIT would provide no experience for any player coming back next year so why not focus on recruiting? ? they could have handled it differently but when you have few players coming back is it really worth it. NIT is not the goal. NCAA tourney is the goal. I don't know.

I think that the real reason that so many posters on this board are upset with declining another (NIT) game is that there isn’t a game thread for them to complain about how bad each individual player is performing and pointing out each boneheaded in-game mistake we make lol

I didn't want to watch this team play another game. How they won 2 in the conf tourney is beyond me. They played awful and shot horrendous. The double OT game was even tough to watch. Loyola Chicago staff members are probably still scratching their heads. LOL.

The disparity in posts is as ugly as our FT differential throughout the season…

The disparity in posts is as ugly as our FT differential throughout the season… Yeah, I really think recruiting is more important than traveling and most likely losing another game with awful shooting. We couldn't shoot or score. These guys were suppose to be big time scorers and how many games did we go into halftime without scoring 25 points? Oakland had a division 2 transfer that hit 10 threes. Maybe we should hit the D2 portal. However a shooter like that would land on campus and his shot would all of a sudden struggle. I don't know what it is but this team just couldn't get it clicking. Rarely did they all shoot decent. Usually one guy got hot and the rest shot cold. It was weird to watch. Vegas must have been like..... I don't know what the Hell to expect at Bonas or on the road. LOL>. Never seen so many inconsistent players on one team. UGH.

The decision to not entertain an offer to play in NIT was made because of the injuries and exodus of players and I am ok with that. The question about Schmidt losing players to me is more about his style and the portal. I believe he needs to adjust if expects to continue to be effective coach. He is only 62 and is making a nice living. I expect him to continue coaching as the NIL evolves. The basketball program will survive without firing the president or athletic director. Next year will bring some new faces and maybe the game changer we have not had for a few years. Enough disappointment and damage has been done. Any real news on the game changer ? Is this someone we are looking at or just hopeful talk?

Very hard TEAM to watch indeed - totally agree ...
Although - It could be argued that the exposure the NIT (ESPN) game(s) could have provided, might sway that important Transfer candidate or HS/PREP recruit to consider the BONAS. Holding off a couple days on the recruiting trail won't hurt.
Now ... If it was "sold" to the TEAM that they had a legit shot to play in the NIT after a 20 Win season and 2 wins in the A10 tournament (as ugly as they were), I'm thinking WOODS - PRIDE - BANKS - FLOWERS - BROWN - VENNING - ASSA - BARRY would have all wanted to go. Hold-Off on the "Transfer Portal intentions" Meetings for a day until NIT invites are finalized. Players just want to play - Post Season play is the pinnacle for college kids. I sure hope that is still the case with players now-a-days ... If it's not, then maybe we are recruiting the wrong kids.

So, with the absence of an official statement from the university, who is the acting AD, Barb Questa?

We're still pretending to be mad about this, huh I simply posted a related article, from Lunardi, an A10 insider, who had an interesting take on this topic including taking a shot at high major programs for turning down an actual invite. I wasn't pretending to be anything, much less prove being an actual DH by posting a response like yours.
