Regardless of his talent coming in, Manhertz fell short in several regards. I wish him the best, but maybe next time he doesn’t actively seek a lesser job less than a year in, and promise massive fundraising numbers that are wildly out of touch with our situation and alumni base. Manhertz had a really rough few days, but we need to get someone - ANYONE! - in the athletics department that has some kind of public relations experience. And the head basketball coach, who I have defended over and over and makes an absolute ton of money, completely hung his AD out to dry this week. Especially if he was in on the decision and subsequent lack of communication to his players. Mark could have ended the whole thing with one statement the day the graphic came out. He has clout and meaningful relationships with the community. Manhertz did not. Exactly why I think he was not part of the overall decision. I could be wrong and maybe he did prefer to recruit, but any tourney game is good press, not only for the school, but also for the BB program. There clearly was some tension in the program this year, and it appears it reached a head this week.

Maybe if the campus burned down we would get a comment from the 2 milllion dollar coach. Until then. . . crickets.

Maybe if the campus burned down we would get a comment from the 2 milllion dollar coach. Until then. . . crickets. what do you want him to say? He could say this years team isn't worth traveling and playing another game. Especially with 8 guys leaving. Did you watch the teams last 5 games? 4 for 18 for 22 percent from three vs Loyola Chicago. Field goals 22 for 60 for 36 percent. Duquesne we shot 23 for 57 from the field for 40 percent. 6-24 from three for 25 percent. Now 8 players from this frustrating team are leaving and you want them to spend money and waste time playing an NIT first/second round exit??? What's the point. Recruiting is most likely what the staff should focus on.

Where was Schmidt during all of this? Seriously! He's been here long enough and has enough clout that he should have spoken up and over ridden Manhertz! It doesn't make sense that we haven't heard any comments from him. Have never been a big Schmidt fan and this incident exposes him for his lack of leadership. It was certainly evident all year. Do you think this would have happened with Mike Krzyzewski or Tom Rizzo? Absolutely no way. He needs to come clean on what his role was in this! Sorry if this ruffles some, but it's the truth!

Lots going on here. This situation was totally mishandled by Manhertz. He had to go. He was the wrong hire for this university. Why was he still here if there were rumors about a job search ? Red flag. Schmidt worked for Manhertz and followed protocol. Knowing players were leaving Schmidt knew it would not be a good look to enter a tournament with a depleted squad. The media could have a field day with this. The end result is we will hire a new AD who understands the culture. We did not risk further embarrassment. The concern with Schmidt’s salary will continue until the results are better or he is gone. I was fortunate to see 4 years of Bob Lanier. Everything today is different. We are not getting those days back.

Yes, would Tom Rizzo allow this? So you say you’re not a Schmidt fan, but then you compare his bonafides to Hall of Famers Mike Krzyzewski and Tom Izzo? The only information we have right now is Coach Schmidt stating that he hoped for an NIT invite after the A-10 tournament and Manhertz stating that it was a decision made by him and the coaches. We also know this was not communicated to the team. While I think there is enough there to be critical of Coach, I believe that the man has earned a mistake. Have you ever made a professional mistake? Manhertz had not earned the benefit of the doubt and then doubled down on the error by criticizing the community.

ughhhh please please can we get back to the "rebuild" we need to develop the guys we got and find complimentary pieces to join them...PREFERABLY -Probably a PIPE DREAM in todays NIL/Portal world ...guys that want to COMMITT and STAY COMMITTED to BONA's....GUYS that want to prove something-build something-stand together for something...I remember Drew Nicholson saying in a presser I came to Bona's to build something... Schmidt has to PLAY all of them though so they feel part of it, CHANGE HIS STYLE/APPROACH/ADAPT to today's insecure kids... ENOUGH of the REVOLVING DOOR EVERY YEAR....LETS GO BONA's For Life!!!!!

Bonas' needs a sports information officer, a person who can anticipate the question of not going to the NIT. That officer could have gone to the AD and coach and have gotten the information out before the ESPN graphic. None of this had to happen.

You’ve “never been a big Schmidt fan”? Do you realize how idiotic you sound never being a fan of the best thing to happen to this basketball program since the 70s?! Let me name my profile “bonnieswin” when I’m “not a fan” of the winningest coach in school history. Then again you think Tom Izzo’s name is Tom Rizzo, so… But I’M the troll.

Sorry, but this falls right in the lap of the 2 million dollar coach. None of this would have happened if he would have told Manhertz in their Sunday meeting to let it play out and see if they get selected to the NIT. The only conclusion to be made is that HE did not want to play any more games. No way Manhertz would have overruled Schmidt. Of course this is a tough pill to swallow for a lot of you. And, of course, per today's TH column, there is "no comment" from the school of Mass Communications. How ironic.
