Sloppy Joe was absolute basement from Day 1. It was always money over matter and relationships with Sloppy Joe. Heard that staff had floundering respect for Sloppy Joe and he had zero accountability for what went on within the Dept. Never looked out for, or had the backs of, Athletics Staff....many times opting for dollar bills over what was right.
Sloppy Joe has gone down as the least impactful leader of St Bona athletics of all-time. Certainly something to hang your hat on...what a legacy he built in the 14778.
He-Gone!

Sorry, but this falls right in the lap of the 2 million dollar coach. None of this would have happened if he would have told Manhertz in their Sunday meeting to let it play out and see if they get selected to the NIT. The only conclusion to be made is that HE did not want to play any more games. No way Manhertz would have overruled Schmidt. Of course this is a tough pill to swallow for a lot of you. And, of course, per today's TH column, there is "no comment" from the school of Mass Communications. How ironic. Couldn't agree more. It's funny how quiet some are about Schmidt. His name should be talked about BIG time and how he allowed this to happen. We're paying this guy BIG time money and his accountability in all this simply cannot be ignored!!! Just inexcusable!

We are paying him the same amount as an MLB relief pitcher. BIG money, aka middle-of-the-pack money in a very competitive conference. We get it, you don’t like Schmidt. You whine about him when they play, you whine about him when they don’t play. You even whine about him when they beat UCLA, because it’s not a Round of 64 game. Just shut up.

I just don't think he's that great of a coach. Big difference. This is a BIG deal that just happened and he needs to speak out about his role in this. His silence is deafening and in a way revealing. He needs to explain his part in this decision. Why didn't he speak up and say we're not declining the NIT Invitation. This is a huge negative on our reputation and the person or persons responsible for this decision including Schmidt's role in this needs to be disclosed!

Nope, just someone who can read your posts and realize 89% of your posts have been anti-Schmidt. Some of us realize how good of a coach he is. Doesn’t make us relatives, just makes us knowledgeable basketball fans.

Coach Schmidt- and you should respectfully used that title has earned his stripes and any accolades for what he has done for a small 2,000 student school in the middle of, well in a very rural setting. Some people just need to create problems and issues - it’s their MO in life. We see it in social circles, in business and politics- they strive to create havoc, angst and chaos. They ruin marriages and families- now trying to do the same for our Bona family.
They justify their actions with ‘just trying to be honest’, ‘it’s your fault if you can’t see the truth,”, I’m a realist’, In reality if you are happy or satisfied they are not.
Thanks Coach, Kerp plugging, ignore the naysayers- we are all grateful and happy with the results- we all want more but we know we already have plenty.

It's amazing what some people call great!

You are so right, bonnieswin, let’s hire a coach that can never get there instead

Let's hire a coach that can get there and win!!! Gee, what a novel idea! Forget it, you'd never understand! I would love to, but matchups and seeding exist and can’t be ignored no matter how “high” one’s standards are. We and LSU were both underseeded in 2021; we had to go to Dayton in 2018, beat a team with an NBA lottery pick (but that doesn’t count, according to you) and then go to Dallas on a red-eye and face an excellent Florida team a day later. The 2016 team was built for the tourney but never got there because of the selection committee. And In 2012 we lost a very close game to a much more talented Florida State team after leading for much of the game. Oh yeah, in 2019 Schmidt lost his All-American point guard and still almost took a youthful team back to the dance. Can’t blame Schmidt for everything- winning in the tourney is tough. Just ask the SEC.

Dayton, who most around here would love to emulate, has made it past the first weekend of the tournament ONCE in the past 40 years.
Saint Louis has ONE NCAA trip in the last 10 years. Richmond has ONE NCAA trip in the past decade. Saint Joes hasn't danced since 2016 and have only been to the NCAAs 3x in the last 20 years.
Schmidt is not without fault, but he's done very well here. Is he the only one that can succeed at SBU? Of course not, but it could easily get much worse if we botch the hire for our next coach.
