if i had to equate NOAH BOLANGA to a former BONA player it would be MICHAEL LEE. both are long, lean, athletic , and good shooters.

Has Noah been spotted on campus yet? Noah has huge upside here. A proven EU pro player. He will be very interesting to watch.....Jokic and Doncic anyone?

As of Friday at 10AM, Noah is not yet listed on the roster at gobonnies.com. While this is at least a little worrisome,I think it’s maybe just due to typical international delays. Aren’t there usually delays caused by visa issues and the like? Plus I have not seen anyone suggest this is not a done deal or that he is under consideration elsewhere, so I think we can assume he a Bonnie, or Wolf, pending some paperwork. I hope so, as I think this guy can provide some needed experience, maturity and athleticism to the front line and could be one of those always valuable “matchup nightmares.” Its either the Wolf as in Gubbio the Wolf, the favorite pet and companion of St Francis of Assisi or the Brown Indians......never the Bonnies....... Noah will be a tough D for our opponents.......EU players are rough and ready......especially a kid who has been playing pro ball for four years.

Ebrahim Kaba is a really good comparison to Noah. Kaba has the same height, build, athleticism and skills. From Noah’s highlight video, he has the same skills as Kaba in regards to shooting and ball handling. Hopefully in the near future we will be comparing Kaba’s game to Noah’s.

Chuck - I suspect Kaba and Noah’s games may not look alike. I expect Kaba to be more of an outside shooter, whereas Noah will be more of an inside player who uses his shooting from deep only occasionally to open up his driving/slashing game. Maybe it’s wishful thinking as having guys like that to compliment each other would present huge match up problems to any opponent.

Like Kaba, Noah is primarily a 3 point shooter. -- Here is an incredible stat to show Noah loves the 3 and rarely shoots inside the arc. On the national team he was 11th on the team in playing time, but was 3rd in attempted and made 3 pointers. -- Noah pretty much avoids shots inside the arc (is 11th in attempted 2 pointers). The only player on the team who attempts less 2 point shots, is the last guy on the bench. -- Professionally you see the same discrepancy between 3 point attempts and 2 pointers. Last season Noah shot 123 three pointers and attempted just 43 shots inside the arc. Both Kaba and Noah need to develop an offensive game closer to the basket. Kaba is basically the same player as Noah. The big difference is Noah has shown he can hit 3s in games against the best U20 players in Europe and against professional players. Noah brings a solid 3 point shot to the Bonnies at the small forward position. Another solid 3 point shooter is a need for this team. www.fiba.basketball/europe/u20/2023/team/Francewww.proballers.com/basketball/player/181622/noah-bolanga/games

Chuck - the facts - statistics you refer to - show my presumption about Noah’s game to have been wrong. I relied too heavily on the highlight tape, which I should have remembered are often misleading, and I tabbed Noah as having more of a driving/slashing offensive game. He certainly looks athletic enough to play like that, but facts are facts and the facts show he prefers the three.
His recruiting makes me wonder if we might see more recruits like him. Based on my more traditional (ok, old guy) outlook, I just am not used to looking to younger European pros as prospective recruits since for so long, the rules absolutely precluded anyone who ever received ANY payment from sport playing ANY amateur sport, including but not limited to college hoops. So maybe in our yearly posts (along the lines of “I wonder if the staff is considering this high schooler from Rochester,” etc. or “this guy who just put his name in the portal to transfer” from wherever) we need to monitor and add European pros to our usual list of prospects. Guys like Noah may be the next big wave of difference-makers in college hoops. I’m glad to see the staff get out in front of this and I think it is part of Mark’s “adapt or die” thinking. This much is for certain - if Noah makes an impact this year, coaches from every school in the A10 are going to be picking up Frequent Flyer Miles on trips to Europe.
