Tried the west radio broadcast; no go…. …it is 12miles away.

Not only struggling from beyond the arc, struggling from anywhere on the court!

None of us should read too much into this game on either side of the ball. But 7-23 shooting against this team is a relative concern that I’ll stick in the back of my brain for now.

Wow—the defense looks pretty good. The shooting on the other hand…eek

Like the defensive hustle overall, just a couple lapses so far - Noel got beat pretty bad on the last play.
Edwards and Council stick out to me, not much else overall.
Shoutout to Chuck for pointing out the 3 point concerns - they’re showing up tonight. Let’s hope we can find a guy or two to step up there as the season progresses…

They’ve popped for me, also. Two other things I found noteworthy: Bowen appears to be a really good passer; I was very impressed, both in transition and on entries. Also, I liked how Lajae attacked the defensive glass. He may have a size advantage tonight, but he won’t in most games. I was really pleased with that part of his game. The rest across the board was pretty meh.

Have we ever been this close with this sorry team? This does not bode well. We don’t seem to be able to score.

But 7-23 shooting against this team is a relative concern that I’ll stick in the back of my brain for now. This team is not going to be a high flying 75+ PPG team. They’ll be a slower tempo team that wins games with defense. With that said, the defense looked solid, but the offense leaves much to be desired. Give it time. The offense is always the last thing to gel with Schmidt clubs.

I like what I saw from Bowen - he looks like he’s in charge. Also I think Moore looked comfortable, which may be why we are not seeing much of him on the court. Mark may be thinking he does need as much work as some of the other guys who are getting more time. Not sure we’re going to be seeing much of Folarin after tonight - he looks a little frantic out there. No Kaba? The defense better look sharp against Alfred, but at the same time the poor shooting is a real concern, not only from three, but the misses around the hoop.

Overall - ouch, but I think many of the problems were due to nerves and the plan to play everyone. So I think a more stable rotation will produce a better offense.

Well, the 2nd half was much better. Maybe just 1st game together jitters.
Observations(in no particular order):
Bowen is getting 33-35m per game Overall team quickness is really quick and fast Rose is ultra quick Can see lineups with Bowen, Council and Hinton Can also see a lineup where Moore and Edward’s are on the floor for extended minutes Council may get over 30m per game Really liked Edward’s game. Can he score when the games are real They will have to win with defense and transition it fast break offense Not much of a drop off defensively when the bench comes in
Biggest questions:
Who is going to make 3pt shots Who is going to lead the team in rebounds Who is going to score from the bench besides Moore

Defense? Not too shabby. Offense? Well... Some of the fellas shot the ball well, mostly inside the arc. But the 3-ball and ft pcts were off. I was a bit surprised the Saxons outrebounded the Bonnies 39-36.
Monday, the counting starts.

Guys - Rose looked good once the jitters fell off - I see him playing more than maybe some of you think

Only thing I try to gather from these is where Mark’s mind is rotation wise. Here’s my opinion based off what I watched:
-Counil and Bowen are going to play a ton of minutes. That’s not exactly surprising — that our starting PG and SG are going to play a ton — but it appeared obvious that Council is the leader out there. And Bowen is Schmidt’s only PG. Hinton played some minutes at the 1, but he seems better off the ball. Plus, the secondary lineups in each half, to my recollection, had Council sliding to the 1. It certainly appears as though Council is a 33-35mpg guy. And I can’t see Bowen be under 32 or so. -Jaxon Edwards was my biggest surprise. As Chuck recently pointed out, the scrimmage lineup is usually the Game 1 starting lineup. I wasn’t sure who would start at the 3, but I was thinking Bolanga or Moore. Jaxon appears to be that guy and his athleticism definitely popped. I’m not sure He’s going to score a ton, unless it’s in transition or on second chance, but he’s going to be a force on the defensive side. -I mentioned earlier, but I liked how Lajae attacked the glass. Our 4’s are always going to be undersized. He seemed fine. Had a good stroke, just didn’t knock anything down. Hopefully that changes. -Didn’t notice Chance a ton, but he probably has the best D1 resume of all of our guys. No concerns for me. He Appears to be the backup 3/4 and I think it says a lot about team to have that guy coming off the bench. -Noel was fine. Hard to get up for a game like this, if I’m him. -Bolanga off the bench. It will be interesting to watch him develop. He’s clearly behind Edwards/Jones/Moore, which isn’t surprising considering when he was added. Stroke also looked good, just didn’t connect. Rest of his game needs work for sure. -Hinton is going to be a work in progress, in my opinion. Certainly seems like he might be a 5-10 minute guy. I liked him more off the ball offensively. -Duane looked a little hesitant to me. I was curious to see where he’d fit in. There’s minutes to be won at the 4 behind Lajae. Moore is undersized but certainly appears to offer more right now. -Backup center worries me a little. Wasn’t overly impressed with either Folarin or Wedlow in favorable matchups. Wedlow is obviously very young. -I like Rose’s game, but we have a few guys in similar molds who are older and more experienced. Coach Neal mentioned on the Unfurl call how they hope they can keep him around (paraphrasing). I just dont see him playing a ton, but would also love to see him here. Hope to he gets more minutes than I’m thinking. -Kaba the last guy off the bench. Seems destined for a RS.
