Hinton is the best pure shooter on the team. I think he will get minutes because of that. He’s also comfortable as a ball handler. That corner 3 he hit was pretty. Has a nice mid range game, too.

Hinton as a ball handler looked to be all right hand. His quickness allowed him ‘to turn’ his man but he quickly went back to the right hand. I like him off ball with Bowen finding him off drives.

Will be a while before the offense is anything close to a polished product. That was an eye opener.
Last season we had 5 effective if not streaky shooters from deep who could help mask any blemishes in many games.
I did not see the entire game (only the middle 20 minutes), but anytime you throw any combination of 5 guys out there who never played together … with few to none legit outside threats … it usually produces bad offense. And this was against a D3 team.
The defense was decent, but I saw some lazy footwork and mental mistakes that will kill us vs better competition.
Let’s hope things flow better with a 7 or 8-man rotation. I was surprised that Bowen, Council and Brown did not dominate D3 players. We need those guys to be our studs.

Council led Wagner in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. I think he will be more aggressive on Monday. Have to think some of these veteran guys were playing it safe tonight. I’m also not worried about our shooting. I only saw 1 ill advised 3 point attempt tonight, which was Wedlow’s air ball. The other shots were in and out or a little strong.

First half was quite unimpressive. Far better 2nd half shooting - 52% FGs and 33% TREYS.
Played upbeat with movement and lots of touches while committing only 8 TOs.
Poor rebounding, finishing -3 on the boards. Allowed 7 offensive rebs the first half to our 3.
Our 44 % FTs is less concerning to me than getting to the line for only 9 FTs.
Nice to see Council's 5 steals.

Guys - Rose looked good once the jitters fell off - I see him playing more than maybe some of you think Rose might be a good player, but not so sure there are a ton of minutes available at guard. Barring any injuries, he's not touching PG or SG. I guess he could play the three if we played small, but Edwards, Moore & Bolanga appear ahead of him on that front. We played a lot of guys tonight, but I have a feeling Kaba, Wedlow and Rose won't play significant minutes at the current time. Thompson will probably play more than three other guys mentioned, but still is probably a year away from being a legitimate contributor.

On the radio Gary Nease and Don Scholla selected Melvin as MVP of the game. Schmidt offered his opinion of the game “it is difficult to look good when you miss shots.” Both are great descriptions of this game. Melvin as MVP — led team in points, steals and blocks. Much more important was his value to the team when he was on the court. Wish we had a +/- stat for this game. I’m certain Melvin would have won this stat by a large amount. — First 5 minutes Bonnies are up 9-0. All the starters, except Melvin are benched at 15 minute mark. — Next 2+ minutes Melvin and reserves extend lead to 13-1. Melvin goes to bench at 13:05. — At 7:51 Bonnies are up by just 5 (15-10) with Melvin on the bench. You see the same thing in the 2nd half. All of Bonnies big runs occurred with Melvin on the court. Unfortunately this team needs Melvin on the court. Melvin’s 27 minutes of PT is NOT enough. Schmidt “it is difficult to look good when you miss shots.” After the game I wondered how many jump shots the Bonnies made inside the arc. I had 2 options; rewatch game on ESPN+ or checkout play by play from Go Bonnies. I chose Go Bonnies, because it was far less painful than watching this game again. — Bonnies far superior athleticism resulted in a solid 43.8% shooting from the field, but this is extremely misleading, as 24 of the 28 shots they made were either dunks or layups. — Bonnies made just 3 shots from behind the arc (3-17). It is difficult to believe, as they made just 1 jump shot inside the arc and this occurred when Jonah hit one with 2:52 left in the game. ** I’m certain I’ve never watched a game with just one 2 point jump shot made in a game. Bonnies are a much better jump shooting team than what they showed against Alfred. Hopefully they prove it on Monday. gobonnies.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2024-25/alfred/boxscore/7113gobonnies.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2024-25/alfred/boxscore/7113

Biggest questions: Who is going to make 3pt shots Who is going to lead the team in rebounds Who is going to score from the bench besides Moore -- Bonnies have 3 point shooters. From 3s last season (at Go Bonnies); Lajae shot 42%, Jonah 41% and Noah over 38% against professionals. Can't explain why their shots were so far off against Alfred, but I've seen them with solid 3 point strokes this preseason. -- Noel is a solid overall player, but rebounding is not a strength. As we saw against Alfred, Lajae is probably the team's leading rebounder (led team with 8). Mike was especially impressive with 7 rebounds in just 13 minutes. Rebounding is his game, but how much PT is he going to see as Noel's backup. -- I question how deep is Bona's bench. My hope is Noah will develop into the person, who provides the points off the bench. Despite what we saw, Noah has impressive offensive skills. Biggest disappointment for me was how Noah looked. I can't explain it. He looked great in the last pickup games. Maybe he just plays better in unstructured games, without any pressure. gobonnies.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster

Looks like a long season ahead. Will need to be a strong foul shooting team as team looks to be slashers not shooters. Bolonga looked unimpressive as a 21 year old player was expecting a more polished player. This season hasn't started but can't imagine what team will show up next season with portal. Years past would look at starters and see players able to score 20 points in a game. Not sure how many of our starters could go out and put up 20 besides Council.

Can't really take much from that game unfortunately ... it will only get more difficult. Chance Moore only played 12 minutes, that will clearly change when the lights go on Monday night.
The lack of a top shooter is concerning though I'll admit
