Need to bring our "A" version of Defensive intensity. Transition points are critical for this team's success until we become more consistent on Offense (especially when facing a zone). Bryant will be a decent test (good size) - after facing a D2 opponent and clearly playing down to the level of competition. Can't look ahead to Thursday's match-up with UTAH State. Expect a Double Digit win ...
LETS GO BONAS

Aside from Barry, Bryant looks to be a guard-oriented team with solid depth in guards. This will provide a different challenge for the team this season, as presumedly using multiple guards will limit and reduce our fast break opportunities. And it will be interesting to see how Schmidt sets up the defense to keep Barry in check, while keeping their guards away from the rim. A positive is that Barry has never shown himself to be a big producer as a point scorer. I assume he’ll be assigned to keep Chance from having a big game for the Bonnies and he has shown good defensive ability but I’m not sure he’s quick enough to stay with Chance, particularly with Bowen controlling our offense and distributing as he has been. So far this year, Bowen’s ability to get the ball to scorers in the right position to succeed has been a critical factor in our half court offense, which will be necessary if they can slow down our fast break offense.

I hope Bryant head coach Martelli has no issues with Bona fans like his dad did.

Bryant (3-2 record) has played against 1 team with a current winning record (Siena) and they lost in OT. Bryant has a tall and athletic team (Barry Evans along with a 5 and 4 star recruit out of high school) and their leading scorer started as a freshman at St. John’s. Bryant also has impressive stats. Bryant is mainly a team that shoots inside the arc (2 pointers attempted 17th in nation) and rarely shoot 3s (201st) but have a solid 3 point shooting at 36.5%. Allow opponents FG% at just 37.9% (47th in nation) and 31.9% from 3s. Bryant’s tall starting lineup of 6’11” 6’8” 6’7” 6’6” and 6’6” — Rafael Pinzon 6’6” averaged 16.3 ppg for Puerto Rico in 2021 FIBA U19. As a sophomore at St. John was a top reserve averaging 6.1 ppg with 2 starts. Currently Bryant’s leading scorer at 18.0 ppg. Pinzon is deadly from 3s making 52.0% and leads team attempted and made 3s. — Barry Evans has developed a 3 point shot making a solid 47.1% but is just 4th among the starters in attempted 3 pointers and makes just 1.4 a game. Like with the Bonnies, Barry has a high FG% on the team. Has the highest FG% among starters (53.8%). — Earl Timberlake 6’6”was a 5 star recruit by Rivals. As a freshman at Miami played just 7 games (shoulder and ankle injuries), but started 3 games and averaged 9.3 ppg. Currently averaging 13.2 ppg for Bryant. He is strictly an inside player and does NOT shoot from distance (made zero 3s). Has lowest FG shooting (40.7%) among starters. Has a strange combo of leading team in rebounds and assists. — Conner Withers 6’7” has a solid stroke from both the field 44.7% and 3s at 38.5% (2nd in made 3 pointers). Averaging 10.0 ppg. — Keyshawn Mitchell 6’11” a McDonald's All-American Game nominee in 2022. Is NOT much of a scorer 6.0 ppg but is the team’s 2nd leading rebounder. Bryant's strong defensive FG% numbers from both the field and 3s surprised me. This should be an exciting game between 2 very athletic teams. Hopefully Bonnies can find some 3 point shooting as they will probably need it. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/bryant/men/2025.html

I hope Bryant head coach Martelli has no issues with Bona fans like his dad did. Does anyone remember how ruthless Phil Junior was to Nicholson while he was an assistant at Niagara? I remember AN speaking to the ridicule he received from their coaching staff and he called them a classless program in a postgame presser.

Bryant didn’t become a full-fledged division 1 basketball program until 2012. Previous coach was canned after leaving the scene of an accident. School is known for its business department.

I hope Bryant head coach Martelli has no issues with Bona fans like his dad did. Is this Coach Phil’s one son that verbally abused NICHOLSON as an assistant coach at St. Joe’s?
