Does anyone remember how ruthless Phil Junior was to Nicholson while he was an assistant at Niagara? I remember AN speaking to the ridicule he received from their coaching staff and he called them a classless program in a postgame presser. Yea that was brutal. Jr is a total prick I agree w that assessment. Phil Jr was a no talent bench jockey as a St Joe's undergrad. Always ran his mouth and his dad condoned that behavior. Le pricque extraordinaire.

MARK's FIRST 6 are locked and loaded. Each brings something a little different with all elements of a successful team represented. Really fun to watch - good chemistry is forming. Melvin was EN FUEGO in the 1st half - his best game so far. NOEL was a monster down low. Chance took over late and put the game away. He forced a couple drives early - but played under control down the stretch. His defense was outstanding from start to finish. LaJae is the glue man - always under control - hits the glass hard / good handles for a big / smooth stroke & strong finisher. Jonah-Dasonte-Melvin could be the best trio of 1-2 guards in the A10. Smart - aggressive - quick - unselfish ...
MIKE and DUANE still need some time to get up to speed and become A10 level contributors. Hopefully they will be ready by the end of the OOC schedule. Surprised that JAXON did not get any burn. I think his defense is A10 ready - still not sure of his O.

Agree that Jaxon is the athletic, defensive player we need off the bench … 6-6, long, aggressive. Like him to get more run and also try going small if Noel gets in foul trouble.

Jr would sit at the end of his dad's bench and love instigating students in baseline bleachers as their power team would pulverize us. Had nearly a 50 pt lead and was pressing toward the end of one game. A Bona fan (Mary ?) yelled at Phil senior to call off the blood letting. He yelled back at her and was admonished by the St Joes Prez for his action. He offered a public apology to Mary.
Phil Jr, as an AC at Niagara (after leaving Manhattan with Bobby Gonzalez) called DREW a "A Dirty MF..." while DaQuan Cook was shooting a FT with a hushed RC crowd. His voice was clearly picked up on the live mic next to the Niagara bench causing announcer Watson (God rest his soul) to apologize for that going over the radio airwaves. Drew claimed Coaches did not shake his hand in the post game line up after we won. Niagara nor coaches ever offered an apology.
Phil senior did stick up for Bona during the welder's fiasco and Jr, taking on Nick as an AC at BRYANT, had Coach Schmidt say real nice things about Senior and Junior in today's post game interview on the court. I felt JOE's treated Phil senior terribly after his down years. Could have left HAWK HILL the year they were ranked as high as #4 and made far more money.
That said, Phil jr's behavior toward DREW and the Bona student body is a thorn in my side that will never go away.

Barry did well early with 10 points in the first half, then did next to nothing besides bricking threes near the end of the game. It seems like he has some unresolved anger toward Schmidt/Bonas. Maybe he needs some counseling or other help?

All players who transfer get amped up to play their former teams. Barry’s a great kid - still young in terms of experience. Happy he found a program where he has an opportunity to grow.

Shout out to Noel today. Here is guy that has only got better since he has been with Schmidt. It is a testament that he had the best game of his career today. He is the definition of blue collar and keep plugging along and good things will start to happen.
Congratulations Noel.

There is definitely some unresolved anger with Barry. I hope he finds the peace that has obviously escaped him. Some Franciscan intervention could help him:
"Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace! That where there is hatred, I may bring love. That where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness. That where there is discord, I may bring harmony. That where there is error, I may bring truth. That where there is doubt, I may bring faith. That where there is despair, I may bring hope. That where there are shadows, I may bring light. That where there is sadness, I may bring joy".

Not bad. Bona was the only game in town (and WNY for that matter with the Bills on their bye week).

Post game Coach Schmidt said Bryant was the best team we played this season. We were 7.5 pt favorites and covered easily with a 15 point win.
Up 6 at the half we played a very good important first 4 mins of the 2nd half to extend lead to 20. They challenged the lead a few times but we always answered. At 5:57 they pulled to within 9. Barry had an open TREY to get within 6 but his miss (and another a minute later) saw CHANCE 2 pt drive and JONES TREY put the game away.
We did a far better job getting the ball into NOEL resulting in his season high 11 shots hitting on 9 for game high 22 pts. That and his 7 boards was a big factor in a far more comfortable win that I expected.
We have rebounded well over our first 5 games but today we were a poor - 5 and a dismally concerning -6 offensive boards. They effectively crashed the boards leading to -14 2nd chance points. That will surely be addressed by Coach Schmidt.
Our offense was arguably the best we have seen. 56% FGs, 57% TREYS, 81% FTs, for 85 pts against a team that allows 73.6. Our D kept BRYANT 16 pts below their average!
Lajae is hitting on 53 % of his TREYS and JONAH on 45% of his !! Some posts about us not having any TREY threats might be challenged

I think today was clear he made a terrible decision. That team doesn’t play defense and doesn’t run many offensive sets. He’s not going to grow as a player

That one play right after the half where he assisted on a give and go with Bowen was a thing of beauty

Shout out to Noel today. Here is guy that has only got better since he has been with Schmidt. It is a testament that he had the best game of his career today. He is the definition of blue collar and keep plugging along and good things will start to happen. Congratulations Noel. It was clear as long ago as near the end of last season that Noel was a better all around player than Chad, thanks to passing and fewer TOs (less dribbling). Neither is a great rebounder. One problem: last year we had Noel to spell Chad, and this year....
Lajae is growing on me as quiet contributor, much needed, especially with Noah's disappearance. Unlike some here, I saw nothing in Noah's game from the start (even beyond shooting), but I suppose there is still a chance he will get it together. Remember that b-ball "analyst" who predicted he would be one of top 6 transfers without every seeing him play? But the bench beyond Hinton suddenly appears not so deep (see today's game with few minutes and 9 points from them, and was not even an A10 game).... For me, Myles is still the dark horse but he is at the deepest position...
Bryant's offensive rebounding today was very troubling, especially since--while we areoften described as "long"--we don't have a single true banger to aid Noel....

That’s your arguments? How many set plays did we run for Barry? ZERO. He made a decision because he’s playing 30 mpg, and here he would be playing 5 or 10 minutes? He wasn’t growing here and didn’t have much role. He has a role at Bryant and he likely will get better. A few people seem bitter about Barry leaving — just weird.
