While I disagre with jh on many things, I actually agree with the point he is making here! In contrast to sneakers' example, the Bonnies were short-handed this year w/Gathers gone, Tyson not ready, and Adams getting hurt. The fact that freshman Taquee was able to see the floor ahead of the transferring Adams and Smith and even Alston suggests that they were not up to the competition. Guys that don't see action at the elite-schools have 4 and 5 star recruits ahead of them and they are biding their time. Also, the RI transfers' low statistical numbers do not outweigh the fact that they were able to average decent minutes -- the low scoring averages are more indicative of a more concentrated scoring attack from their top players , Matthews, etc.
Xavier had no other D-1 offers, Matthias Runs was a 'flyer' and Alston had no outside shot. Toupane was over-rated in hindsight and Adams' calling card was his 43' vertical. It's possible that Adams will end up at a lower D1-level, but the other two guys are going D-II.

I have reverence for the all time great Bonnies. I grew up hearing about the Stiths and Lanier,, but I sm a 50 year old man and I never saw them play. To think that they would be the key to recruiting now is naive at best. Times and kids have changed. \ I did not say that the 3 HOFers (Lanier is not one of the 3 btw) were the key - what I said, in earlier posts, is that the 3, now sadly 2, have had a very close connection to an individual who has been running a basketball program at Rucker Park in Harlem for years, which, aside from being a basketball program, also demands an academic commitment from all in the program; thus most are college ready. The program is in place, helps players work on their game and their academics, and has been successful. The HOFers suggested to our coach that he call this gentleman simply to make contact with a potential source of recruits - call it naive - I'd prefer to think of it as adding another contact to the list of recruiting centers of influence. Yes, times & kids have changed, why not make contact with a person who runs a successful, ongoing program. My point, 87, is why not pick up the phone? What's to lose?

Bona bloger: you think Tyson will be ready to provide quality minutes next year?

Nothing. What players have gone D1 recently from this program? That would be a question MS should ask when he makes the call.

As has been mentioned, it is not entirely fair to question how many have transferred D1. Many of these guys do not want to sit out another year after limited pt. But in the end, why does everyone care so much? No team is ever going to have a 13 man rotation, so this happens all the time. Hopefully they were at least solid practice players who helped the guys who actually played.

Is it fair to say Schmidt is a poor recruiter based on a few recruits that didn't work out while ignoring the big upside surprises that he has delivered in the form or Andrew, Jaylen, NDoye, Posely, Dion, Hall, etc.? On every team of 13 basketball players there will be some players who are dissatisfied with their minutes and their ability to contribute in game situations. That is natural as there are only so many minutes to dole out. Remember, every one of these players have been the superstars of their teams their whole lives until suddenly some of them find themselves sitting on the bench for multiple years with no assurance that the situation will ever change. Exploring other situations is merely doing what they think is right for them, as they should. Even if the Bonas coaching staff were the best recruiters in the world and were able to get an entire team of thirteen 5 star recruits, we would still have the same problem with players being dissatified with their minutes. There would still be players who decide to move on. It is unfortunate, but that is what is happening not only at Bonas, but at just about all colleges. Every poster on this Board (other than the trolls) are in agreement that we would like the coaching staff to recruit the best available players to come to Bonas. Players with the highest likelihood of success athletically, academically, ethically, etc. Players with great attitudes and huge upsides. However, it would be very naive to think that any coach's judgment about how an 17 year old high school kid will turn out as a D1 college player would be flawless. It is not rocket science to evaluate talent currently exhibited by high school players, but it is extremely difficult to see how much future developmental upside these players have. Some will meet or exceed expectations, but some will dissapoint. Well, there you go again, sneakers. What's with all this reason and common sense?

Dunga I am aware of Rucker Park in general. I am wondering who the connection has been responsible for and what his credentials are.

So this "warm lead" is New York city in general? That is quite helpful.
