Just saying the second Atson went prep, Schmidt and staff most likely knew he was no longer interested/attainable. The writing is pretty much on the wall at that point that he has his sights set bigger.

It wasn't just our staff who missed on lakeem. Rivals rated him 92nd in its juco top50 and Posley wasn't ranked. That seems laughable now. If Schmidt recruits guys who go high major he gets killed, if he recruits guys who transfer and don't play, he gets killed. If he doesn't get guys early enough he gets killed. When he offers a juco SG with lower offers he gets killed, but no apologies when WVU offers same SG. He's done well with top 5 returnees (adams, posley, gregg, wright and taqqee) but unfortunately will have misses when trying to project.

Are you serious? These schools will rebound quickly. They always do.... Do you think he has done a good job recruiting?

Has he done a bad job? I cant say that he has. From a scale to 1 to 10 how would you rank him as a recruiter?

Has he done a bad job? I cant say that he has. From a scale to 1 to 10 how would you rank him as a recruiter? 7.5...not GREAT, but gets serviceable A10 players that he can develop...A10 champs, A10 semis...almost ALWAYS exceeding expectations

Has he done a bad job? I cant say that he has. From a scale to 1 to 10 how would you rank him as a recruiter? -- A 3 as a recruiter who signs publicized recruits that gets the Bandwagon all excited. I remember the excitement from Solomon's recruiting classes, which would be ranked in the top 100 of Jay Bilas' Hoop Scoop. -- A 9 as a recruiter who signs unheard of recruits during the summer (a time period where everyone is blasting Schmidt for not signing anyone). Dion and Matt Wright are the most recent examples of successful summer signings. -- Overall a 7. Schmidt does not sign as many 3 star recruits as Baron (Winn, Cyrus, Marques and etc.) but has a slightly better A10 record and has won the A10 Championship something Baron never accomplished. A recruits number of stars is not what is important. A player's final career is what should define a coach as a recruiter. Finding unheard of recruits (Andrew, Demetrius, Youssou, Dion and others) who turn into quality A10 players should be the measurement of Schmidt as a basketball recruiter. We need to remember Bonnies continue to be at the bottom in the A10 in basketball recruiting dollars, but Schmidt like Baron has competitive teams in the A10. Did you know 9 A-10 teams have more than a million dollars more than Bonnies in their basketball budgets, while Dayton and VCU has twice the basketball budget of the Bonnies. It should not surprise anyone that the schools that are most successful are at the top of the list with dollars spent while least successful are at the bottom. Schmidt's Bonnies are one team that consistently does better than anticipated from dollars spent. www.bbstate.com/info/teams-hoopsbudget/_/A-10

a fine commentary, chuck..."...a player's final career is what should define a coach as a recruiter"...i mentioned a while back that in the last 45+ years of rooting for the bonnies, i estimated about 150 "misses"...well, add 3 more this spring...that makes it 153...every coach missed sometime...from coach wiese to coach schmidt...and az and fjs and the rest of you guys that go back to coach donovan, your number of "misses" is probably over 160...
and the old expression "money talks"...oh, i know...some say it's an excuse...i'd agree with you if we had all this money the other schools have and we weren't challenging for the a-10 title every year...then i'd say there's no excuse for not winning more...and if i had the kind of money that really talked we'd have a new softball field and a practice facility... and i'd be with you, fan4ever, ...rob-fal and plassman would be history, replaced with 2 classic looking buildings with that beautiful style roof that we have on many of the buildings...but dev stays with some updating...for the money i'm talking about i think would require a phone call: "hello, may i speak to mr buffett?"...

How did Joe Lombardi and Rob Lanier continually attract 1st team A10 talent ? Quit drinking the smear koolaid that our school or town or conference are not good enough Those past coaches NEVER had a 6 bid conference to recruit kids into nor an A10 tourney held in the Barclays - yet they got top kids What will it take for you to admit these guys cant recruit worth a _____? ? The 6 bids happened once.. You are talking like it happens all the time..... Have you seen where the a10 tournament will be next year? It won't be at the Barclay's Center.... The conference isn't good enough.. Why does our tournament continue to move? Then why don't we get killer recruits? Our out of conference schedule was pathetic. We beat VCU when two of their stars were out.. I win is a win, but come on man.... The conference was smaller and better in the 80s/early 90s.... Temple and Umass were top 15 teams each year.... West Virginia was very good... Did i miss something, or isn't the A10 Tournament being held at the Barclays in 2016 again?!.. It moves every few years to give the conference more exposure in different areas. The hope is to attract more fans, and help the conference in the long run.. It was held in Philly for years, then Atlantic City, now Brooklyn, then Pittsburg in 2017 and so on.. Also, why the pessimistic view? Yes the A10 was pretty strong, when we had Temple and Umass, in the '90's. But we still have Umass, and VCU has stepped in for Temple, and as of right now, done a great job representing the A10! Personally, i'll take the A10, as it stands today, over the America League or the revamped Big East..
