Iona will be interesting next year, of course we know that they added Jon Severe from Fordham, and now adding Sam Cassell Jr from Uconn, the son of a former NBA player (Jr is no where near as good as his father). Both can play next year. www.verbalcommits.com/players/sam-cassell-jrWe should try to get them back on the non-conf. schedule. Before anyone cries about another MAAC team they have finished with a top 100 RPI 4 of the last 5 years. (the one year they didn't - RPI 104). A relatively close top 100 RPI team that would be willing to do a H/H? Thats one to look into no matter what IMO

This could be a down year for them so maybe a year from now we should consider it.

Kaleb Joseph to Creighton per Goodman's Twitter I liked the kid from when he was playing at Cushing, but his fall from grace at Syracuse was troubling. Was he not good enough, did they not use him correctly, was it a cascading effect based on loss of confidence. Probably all three......I like talent, but what would have happened if he came to Bona's. First, he needed to shoot better, needed to balance his pass first approach with a threat to be able to make it from outside (a year of focus could help, look at how well his former roommate has improved his shooting). So Joseph would have sat his first year, his 2nd year he would have probably not started as it would be Jay's last year, and we would have Mobley as a senior, Idris as a senior, Stockard as a senior, Kaputo as a junior and Tareq a sophomore.....lots of talent. His senior year he would start, but is it worth "paying" for 3 years to get 1 year of use. Probably not. I would like to get a 4 year guard, especially when you look at what we will lose in 2 years.

Just passing along what I saw. our backcourt certainly is crowded so I am not greatly upset that Joseph is going elsewhere. I think our 2 open schollies are better used elsewhere.

tastylicks & kcSBU03....I also would love to see the Gaels scheduled. I think Tim Kenney would as well.
Bona has almost no name recognition in the Metro NY area.

Bona has almost no name recognition in the Metro NY area. It's amazing how in the last 15 years our name recognition across the country has depleated. I run into older guys (45+) in airports and at work and they all know the Bonnies. Anyone under 30 (outside of WNY) has no clue we even exist. It's a sad reality. How do we reverse this?

How do we reserve the perceived lack of recognition in the NYC Metro area? Schedule games against NYC teams - Manhattan, Marist, St. Peters, Iona, St. Francis, St. John's, and we already play our league rival Fordham in the Bronx. MAAC or not schedule them.

Make the NCAA tournament as often as possible. That puts the school on the map everywhere. (wish it was as easy to do as it is to write)

Makinde London, who is transferring out of Xavier is a Schmidt-type athlete. He was redshirted his freshman year to develope and played sparingly last year for Xavier. 6'10", tremendous athlete with a 7'4" wingspan. Had some guard skills before an 8 inch growth spurt in h.s. moved him to the front court. Can shoot the ball and has some monster dunks on video. Sitting out another year to develope would be of great benefit. Problem - reports out of Xavier are that he wants to be closer to home, which is Tennessee. While there are some similiarities between Olean and parts of Tennessee, I don't think we can fool him. (not meant as a jab at Olean - beautiful part of the country and some great folks. and he could be from urban Memphis for all I know) That "closer-to-home" thing may just be a cover story for a kid who wasn't going to see much time for a top-ten quality Xavier squad, but it would seem to make us geographically undesirable.
Not the ready-to-play-next-year center we desperately need, but I would use a scholarship on this kid as our power forward of the future. Question - he sat one and played one. He would have to sit a year. Then would he have 2 years of eligibility or 3 ? Petition for the 3rd ?

We should try and get BC on the schedule. Big market team in the ACC. Catholic School. OUR COACH PLAYED THERE. And we would smoke them. No downside.

^^ The key right there Saul is the "and we would smoke them" part.
That's why I imagine it could be extremely difficult to get Boston College on the schedule. If you are the AD at Boston College, getting smoked at home by a team coached by an alum that you didn't even pay Real attention to in the hiring process is not a good look. That kinda stuff gets you fired. Especially after the article this past season where there was some talk from the media up there about missing out on Schmidt. I imagine the very last thing they want to do up there is invite him in for a butt kicking!!
