Yes, that is part of our Catholic faith, to seek to convert non Catholics to our faith. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, other than being out of sorts with the political correctness doctrine. In fact St. Francis too sought to convert those who were non believers. By the way a mosque can be a meeting hall or room, it does not have to be a domed structure or prayer tower. Yes, Merton's Heart is a special place of reflection and peace - next time you are at Bonas climb up and view the valley.....it is a beautiful place. Try reading the Seven Story Mountain sometime....its a life changing experience if you can pry yourself away from the GASB manuals. Again, you really don't understand the mission of the University. This comes fro the Franciscan Values section of the website: For most members of our community, the greatest truth of all is found in God. But regardless of each individual's beliefs, all of our friars, faculty, students, and alumni share the humble, human values that give St. Bonaventure its Franciscan identity. www.sbu.edu/about-sbu/university-mission/franciscan-valuesThe mission of the University is to educate, not to convert no-believers.

I realize this board isn't necessarily the place for level-headed discussion of the issues that our beloved school faces, however I hope that at least a few people can filter out the Trumpian statements and focus on the real issues at hand. This summer we will have no President, no VP of Finance and no permanent Dean of the School of Business. That's not to mention the open positions in the athletic department. The Bonaventure community's focus needs to be on filling these positions with the right people and doing so quickly. We have large problems that need to be addressed immediately and cannot continue to be kicked down the road to be addressed later.

The Board of Trustees now must designate acting officers until their search committee is ready to make a final selection for these posts.

Of course the mission of the university is to educate, but not in the narrow sense of which you speak. We at Bonas educate for the whole individual, and that definitely includes education in our Catholic faith and Franciscan traditions. Yes Catholicism is a very important part of an education obtained from this great university. There are plenty of state colleges or non denominational institutions one can attend if one is not comfortable with Catholicism. Proselytizing is not an unusual concept for Catholics - its is one of those concepts the really far left is uncomfortable about - and that's just very sad. Christ turned fishermen into proselytizing disciples....not a bad track to emulate.

...again I say: "Presidential Search"! Sony is correct. The topic drift is extreme, even for us.

Very unusual to have the soon Ex President named President Emerita. Generally Franciscans who end their tenure at Bonas are given a new assignment in the Province(i.e.: Fr. Reginald, Fr. Mathias, Fr. Niel, Fr. Dominic), in this case OSF would generally reassign Sr. Margaret to a new post. I believe that this is first time in Bona history that this post has been established. No mention of such a post in Fr. Mark Angelo's "The History of Saint Bonaventure University". That being said she certainly deserves honors for her hard work over the last 12 years! A statue on campus to honor her great service would be a excellent addition to one of the walkways!

Okay, I will talk!!! I will tell you where all the secrets are kept. Just don't make me read another paragraph of this stuff. I will even take water boarding over this!! Chinese Water Torture. Blare Barry Manilow and Air Supply all day long. Just so I do not need to read another paragraph.
Whatever valid points might have existed in this discussion have vanished in 8 pages of mud and mess, and there are several commentators who I am about ready to block so I do not need to read the same stuff over and over. Some of you may have had a valid point around page 2, but now I am just starting think the worst of you and your thoughts. Repetitiveness does not make the heart grow fonder, or make me think you are more intelligent.
