It’s the classic situation of a specific coach, Hurley, coming in and recruiting some great players. Oats had carried that over and has Hurley’s team. Over the next few years they will revert to the norm unless they are able to join a stronger conference. But, like us knocking off cuse last year, we will lose to them occasionally. I don't think that's what's going on though... This is Oat's fourth season at Buffalo and he has hit the JUCO ranks hard. McRea and Harris came in 2017, Jordan in 2016, CJ Buckets was Oats first recruit in 2015 to replace Shannon Evans, and Perkins came at the same time. I don't think anyone on the court last night was recruited during the Hurley Regime. And if they were you need to understand that Oats was in charge or recruiting for Hurley in the same way that Hodgson has a lot of the duties now. Do I expect UB to be this good every year? no, no I don't. But if they can somehow hold Oats (Which would involved a big raise and a move to build a new practice facility) I could see UB playing near this level most years. We have a lot of talented youth on the bench. As to this cheating nonsense, when someone can produce something more than "why would he go to UB" and "Educate yourselves" I'll be interested in seeing it. So far the only place I've seen *any* mention of it is here, and some troll who set up a twitter account last night.

It’s the “hitting the JUCO ranks hard” that brings question marks. Always will
Buffalo was impressive yesterday though. Very talented team this year.
Also surprised to see they actually have some fans. That’s nice

UB was obviously the better team on the court tonight, I thought Lofton looked comfortable, and Stockard is doing everything he can. Ikpeze played alright as well as Kaputo, but we clearly don't have the outside threats or the playmakers needed to knock off a top 25 team. On the negative, everybody keeps talking about how young we were compared to UB, lets look at that carefully.....Stockard- 6th year senior, Kaputo- senior, Poyser- redshirt Junior, Ikpeze- Junior.....those 4 guys were on the floor for the bulk of the game other than Lofton.....so tell me why we make the excuse how young we are compared to them, actually we had a pretty experienced team out there??? Even Chef went prep school and is a sophomore. Poyser has been a big disappointment in my opinion, he isn't Matt Mobley, or even close to Matt Mobley, and I think that is the big difference.. We have went from Posley, to Mobley, to Poyser....and it ain't even close folks. I think we fell in love with his recruiting stars rather than his college production he showed at UNLV. It's not how young, its experience. Poyser had zero minutes per game last year, Kaputo 12, Ikpeze 14, stockard 30+, lofton freshman zero, OO freshman zero, okoli freshman zero, chef 4. So only 1 of our players averaged over 15 mins per game last year. Don't make me look up UBs stats. They have good players that play together well as a team due to a lot of floor time together. The more our guys play together the better off we will be. It shouldn't surprise you that Kaputo and Ikpeze have looked better with Stockard on the floor.

I think when we call them "cheaters" it makes us look so weak as a fan base, and sore losers. They are better than us, face the facts, we have a couple promising young guys with Lofton and OO, but did we cheat to get those guys?? Absolutely not, give UB there fair share of credit, Oats has built a darn good program that came in to the Reilly Center and gave us a beat down. Move on to the next game.
And whoever said these aren't Oats guys, are completely wrong, I did the research and each and every player on this roster was recruited and signed by this current staff. Maybe recruits like the challenging non conference schedule they play each and every year, and the brash confident coach they have in Oats. Just because a program doesn't leave scholarships open and try to find the next diamond in the rough doesn't mean they are cheating. We didn't cheat to get Lofton, Mobley, Adams, and the 4 star guy Poyser.
We too have had Juco guys(Posley, Stockard, Melki,etc...) does that mean we are cheating. Stop sounding so darn sore because we lost. We aren't a good team right now, lets get back on track and try to win the next game. We are currently 0-2 vs the MAC this season, and 1-2 in Big 4 games, right now a recruit wouldn't want to come into this situation to be honest.

Well, that was a disappointment. The Bonnies were overpowered and I agree with the apparent consensus here that the Bulls are a legitimate top 20 team. The Bonnies are a long way from that and have some tough sledding ahead in the coming road trip. Especially with our short bench and open scholarship ride, one player that really could have helped us yesterday was Jeremy Harris. As I recall, the Bonnies wanted him pretty badly as a JC recruit two years ago. He chose UB and that was unfortunate for us. Best of luck to UB in the remainder of the season. The Bonnies will take some important lessons away from this game.

Reading the UB board and it seriously is HILARIOUS how much this win means to them. They despise us. We really are like their Syracuse which is sad for them, because, we ain’t no Syracuse. Even their coach went out of his way to cryptically tweet about Bona. How much are we in their head?
Whatever the past present and future bring for Bona, I suppose there’s some level of satisfaction in being so important to these guys that it’s caused all the reaction they’ve given.

[ You almost had me until the last sentence. Please leave this board. Please. You are an idiot who brings no substance to the table. Seriously. Please. oh wait I forgot these aren't your opinions so they are not valued
Nothing wrong with what I stated, simply scroll through if you don't like it. Honesty hurts doesn't it. We were better than UB last year, they beat us this year. Who cares. They have a coach who is on fire right now, and we continuously say our guy has turned down P5 jobs, which isn't the factual case. Schmidt will always run a nice, clean, classy, competitive program. But he is not Nate Oats. Different animals, and different institutions so I'm not going to even compare the two coaches. All I know is we sound like a bunch of marshmallows-softies telling all of twitter and social media that they cheat, it's ridiculous and almost criminal.
For the people who don't like what I say, oh well. I'm a St. Bonaventure fan, and always will be. My opinions just are different and not the same as everybody else. I believe when we play guys 40 minutes a game and there are others sitting on the bench not developing this is what happens, and then people say these guys only averaged this amount of minutes even though they are now juniors and seniors, it's call program development, player development....you can only sustain success in a program when people are held accountable. Was it lack of experience last year when LD, or Stockard had great seasons?? Stockard came off 2 foot injuries, and LD averaged less than 10 minutes a game the prior year. Jalen Poyser played 1374 minutes at the Division 1 level before he got here, and to be honest he looks lost against better competition. Is that lack of experience, he has more collegiate minutes than Javon Graves and Montel McRae combined!!
Nelson Kaputo started games 4 years ago, and has been in the system, and last night we had 2 other guys who started both NCAA tourney games last year(Stockard, Ikpeze)....we have more experience than people are realizing, just because we have a stud freshman point guard and center doesn't mean we are that inexperienced....

Have any opinion you want Jay. I still think you’re an idiot.
I disagree with a lot of content on this board, but I still value the opinions of most of the people who post said content. You are not one of those people whose opinions I value.
You spew baseless overreactive hyperbolic nonsense. You contradict yourself constantly. So yes when I see things like the last sentence above I will cal you out.
I don’t expect a response from you, because this is logical response and you don’t seem to do very well with reason. I’m not really even sure why I’m bothering with you, but nevertheless.

Gotta say, I don’t often agree with Jay, but I agree that accusing the team that beats you soundly of cheating makes us look bad, and that’s why I have always cringed at the Syracuse accusations over the years - makes us look jealous. And I also was impressed with UB. They played defense the way I hope we will before long (and I think we have the horses to do so). I think solid D can usually be achieved before solid O in the development sequence. They made everyone except Courtney uncomfortable with the ball. They lack offensive depth which will eventually limit their success, but that was some quality D from start to finish.

Jay, I normally don’t agree with you on much and I really wanted to like everything you said until the last sentence. I think that sentence is what gets people frustrated with you. You are a Stockard fan and have gushed about him since he came back but then use stats when he was out to justify your statement about recruits. You cannot have it both ways. I really hope that we can agree that the games against Niagara and Akron would have been much different if he played in them. I truly am a believer that this team would have been 7-2 going into the game yesterday if he had played.

It's not how young, its experience. Exactly Magnus! Bona played UB without 4 starters, from last year's team. Then you add 2 of the top 3 reserves in minutes played per game are also gone (Ayeni and Brockington). Of the top 8 players in minutes played only 2 played last night (Courtney and Amadi). www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/st-bonaventure/2018.html

Yes I want to be very clear here- I absolutely agree with Jay and anyone else who thinks the accusations of cheating come off as trivial and whiny. We got our asses kicked by a better team.
I’m sorry for posting so much about this. I’m just frustrated by it all.

It’s the “hitting the JUCO ranks hard” that brings question marks. Always will Buffalo was impressive hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhthough. Very talented team this year. Also surprised to see they actually have some fans. That’s nice I was not thrilled when it started but over the years Oats/Hurley have been doing this we have had exactly *1* problem with a JUCO (Moss got caught taking money from a dorm room and was kicked out of school). The rest have been model students and graduated. So until I see something other than "well juco means trouble" I've been sold on Oats and his methods.

Yesterday wasn’t all bad. Massinburg and Perkins combined to go 4/21. That’s usually a good recipe for a win. When he wasn’t fouling, Ikpeze looked pretty strong out there.
